Jock Madden #244

I don't see him as a starting half for us, but if he can be called up to the side and do a job and help us win a couple of cold windy Monday night games at Campbelltown.... fantastic.

Mate he will be a reserve grade superstar and fill in for first grade he's not top tier the Tigers Kyle Flanagan will do a job
 
Jock will keep improving particularly now that his kicking has a mix of Reynolds trade mark kick to between winger and fullback, plus the Benji spin which makes the ball run away from the fullback.
No doubt we’ll eventually see it as an attacking kick for a winger, Benji’s favourite was right side but Jock’s could be left? He would have gained a lot of confidence from that game and looks super fit.
 
Jock showed the other halfbacks at the club how to execute. while Heamasi and Javon are rightly getting their flowers, they were afforded time and space on the edges from Jock's work.

shifting gears and playing with tempo and playing direct and straight, passing off his outside hip. pretty significant challenge for AD to see if he can follow suit.

I know it was obviously against a reserve grade side, but those fundamentals hold up in any grade. it's now up to AD and Latu to create that kinda space for Jarome, Taylan etc.

I loved how deep Jock dug into the line before passing, split second before impact and his long passes in the red zone were bullets. It opened up our backline beautifully.

the shapes were no different to last year, but they showed how important the subtle art of ballplaying is for them to work.

keep your hips square, take it deep, change up your tempo, elbows nice and high. it's a system readymade for Latu Fainu if I'm honest. I really don't know if AD will be able to do it.

On a few of those 2nd half tries, I was in disbelief how deep our backline was and how spread they were. I know the opposition was 2nd/3rd tier but it was poetry to watch lol
 
I thought and was hoping shock would play well on Saturday, but he was off the charts, a 10 out of 10 masterclass.
Since he was last with us he now looks much more comfortable in changing tempo, playing straight, digging further into the line and looks to now have a much smarter and improved kicking game.
All this as well as being a committed and decent defender for a smaller man.
I’m a fan of Doueihi at 7, I’m a big fan of Latu moreso as a 6, but geez our NRL halves will have to be right at their best to prevent Jock getting a start if he keeps playing like that.

you would think that it translates though. really nice evolution to see them play square and deep but also with intent and awareness of what option to take (see Javon).

obviously moving up to NRL-level defensive systems means there's less time to react but as you say, if we can maintain that depth and direction we'll be in a good spot.

thought the backline shifts in our 20 looked really crisp too. also loved the little interchanges of passing between our middle forwards in midfield. fingers crossed they translate.

Yeah I did too, it was a beautiful exchange late when CTM & Havea Jr's silky hands put I think it was Kit L through who ultimately scored. Reckon we'll see these 3 pass exchanges a lot in our play this season.
 
Halves are playing for longer these days and they seem to be at their best late 20s into their mid 30s.

Stick with Jock. 26 in a few weeks...probably hitting his straps.
