Joel Reddy

He is better than that.

Whilst his defensive efforts were indeed average to say the least, having Benji next to him doesn't help, and they weren't talking all night when the ball came that way.

I don't understand after all these years, why Benji keeps shirt grabbing, you'd think they'd spend a week at training doing 2nd man plays against him and teaching him how to tackle around the waists/legs of the attacker.

Reddy will bounce back, he just needs some consistent game time and position

Reddy was poor.

On the topic of Benji and his shirt grabbing. I think you will find a direct correlation in that and his lack of halves partner. When he has to do the halves work with Robbie chipping in and an empty shirt in the 6 he basically throws out lazy efforts to conserve energy.

Come on, you can't be serious - I think that is a poor excuse.

Benji has never been a good defender - I do agree that he has more recently been through a period of 'better' defence but I attribute that to who defends around him - as opposed to him 'converserving' his energy now that he has to do a lot more work.

Simple equation - if a bigger guy runs straight and isolates Benji Marshall - 9 times out of 10 he is going to shirt grab and miss the tackle.

It is a big contributing factor, it was exacerbated when the people either side are BMM & Reddy and yes Benji has poor application.

Speaking of the Vacant 6…
Are we the only side in the Comp whose 5/8 doesn't touch the ball in attacking sets?
I swear I saw Aysh about 6 times last night!!

I think in his book he mentions something about his shoulder injuries causing him to change his style - which is wahy you rarely see a benji marshall "text book" tackle.

Having said that, Bouncing off players then grabbing the shirt on the way past does not constitute a "tackling style"

i think hes been decent this year.

but wow what a stinker stuffed up several attacking plays (not all his fault, just bad times to knock the ball off a bomb) and his defense was non existent - so many times caught so far out of position.

For a DEFENSIVE centre this is no good.

Yeah benji's defense was shocking but he is still our attacking key.

The game against the knights proved that Joel Reddy is not a NSW cup player, let alone a first grade player - worst of all, he never has been.
We continue to buy the rejects that no other clubs want and it cost dearly against a Newcastle side that, let's be honest, has so little in attack that they make synchronised swimming seem interesting.
Reddy let in three tries (all on his own) and Ray Cashmere turned the game by giving away a stupid penalty.
The older players get, generally the more frustrated they get and Cashmere showed that ten fold.
Tigers have some of the best junior talent running around and surely there is five other people in each position that could do a better job than Reddy and Cashmere.

At least Benji has an excuse of his shoulder injury history.

Reddy was woeful and I don't rate him I'm afraid - lacks any drive in attack, rarely stretches out (= slow) and all confidence seems to have deserted him.

The best he has looked all year was the pre-season, since then he's been very disappointing, I hope we don't need him any more to be honest.

And to think at the start of the year everyone was thinking what a good buy Reddy would be because of his great defence! I wonder what has happened? Sheens must've coached it out of him.

Yeah he states in his book that he prefers to rush the defence and make an initial aggressive contact before they can wind up.

Problem is with that is he always ends up going for a shoulder charge or a thrown arm and against the big boppers he's gonna bounce off, it stops their momentum when he gets them but can allow them to get a pass away or have another go, or simply miss completely. If only he would hit and stick and just hold til someone takes the legs or just aim low he would be more efficient in D.

ah, apart from last night i think reddy has done pretty well. no one could say he played anywhere near good last night, but im not writing him off.

as for benji, well although i have said that he always could tackle when he tried, unfoturnately last night he was back to the bad old days.
having said that, i think his defence has improved out of sight in the last couple of seasons, and again, i will just look at this as an off night.

unfortunately the knights made them both look like children playing against men, but ive still got faith in both.

The problem here is that, not even Tim Sheens knows why he bought him for . I mean he is a natural centre, 1 week he's a centre ,the next a fullback , week after utility of the bench, week after 18th man . He is really getting stuffed around , when Reddy signed Lawrence and Ayshford were in form during our winning streak , so what was Sheens thinking using him at fullback cause at the time Moltzen signed with the Dragons. Reddy needs a proper go to get back in form don't forget he pretty much missed out on the whole season with the Pectoral injury. On his day great centre IMO.

Sorry Joel,
To be honest when I heard you signed was happy..thought your defense would be an asset. Well to date you have managed to prove me wrong. Well I made a mistake….but it was not as costly as the mistake made by the Tigers. Well in saying that you hear about 12 point turn around's all the time...happened in the Bulldogs/Storm match. But on Monday for the first time I saw a 44 point turnaround. I hope to see it again some day...just not on the receiving end. Just don't know if the Tigers have it in them. Just turned to jelly! No Starch! Benji never to play 7 again unless Sironen or Anasta is at 6\. Any other option will lose you the match before you even start! Sorry boys. Again and again this has proven to be a fact! On the bright side there is only one way from here..that is up! If they play like that again next week the Bullfrogs will put 50 on them. Are there any un-contracted players in the side? Wouldn't think so, all playing like they have lifetime contracts. Would not re-sign a player unless they prove their worth. Ok had my biatch! All will be forgiven if we get some consistency and just play 80 mins...Not perfect...But close to as possible!! LOL
