Joey Leilua has taken issue with a moment of commentary from NRL great Michael Ennis in a stinging social media post.

Leilua appeared to lose his cool during the contest and came up with several noticeable mistakes after brother Luciano appeared to be collected high during a tackle from Canberra’s Hudson Young. “It’s a shame for Joey,” Ennis said

“He brings so much to the side when he’s focused and invested in the performance of the side.”
“Young got one on (Luciano) early and Joey came over pointing the finger and from that moment he then came up with that play where he clipped James Tamou — who had to leave the field.

“He came up with some really under pressure passes, one for James Roberts — that was never on — and defensively George Williams sliced through him and another one when Bailey Simonsson picked up a kick from George Williams which ended up being Hudson Young’s try. There was very minimal effort to get back.



i wish players would delete their social medias like FB and IG and just let their play do all the talking instead of clapping back on the socials.

I didnt think Joey was as bad as people are making out. He came in without playing a trial but he ran hard, his defence was fine, he chased Curtis Scott all the way after Kepoa messed up with a stupid pass.

His offload to Roberts was fine just Jimmy dropped it cold - if it had been the other way people would have blamed Joey.

Kepoa had a average game dropping a ball with the line open, throwimg a stupid pass, being outjumped for a kick but Joey wasnt as bad as many seem to be making out.


Cant agree with you on a few things. The offload to JTJ was low and left and under pressure 10m from your own line is not the time.

Kepaoa didnt have the line open, there were 4 Raiders there to tackle him, he wouldnt have scored.

I did see some Joey positives, be the negatives really bit hard.

Was a little disappointed in both centres on that play, from creating second phase along with the risk from the pass, then lost potential of at least good metres and possibly a try at a stretch that came with it. The explosive off the mark Roberts had came from the other side of the field to contribute and then missed an opportunity.

As for the swinging arm, the rules as far as I'm aware state that it's play on unless it's a reportable offence, is that right?

At this stage you would not be taking up that contract option in a hurry.

Needs to learn one of the things that they teach 6 year olds. Only pass the ball if the person getting it is in a better position than you.

I just hope that BJ and Lucy aren't a package deal. Lucy is dangerous and so is BJ, just in different ways. ✌

I had reservations about Leilua’s inability to change his mental state before the season even started. His performance in the first game hasn’t changed my mind. All the talk about change and improvement is garbage. He continues to be a liability and a really dud signing. Yes please let’s give Talau a shot, Madge.

Any half smart club will exploit his inability to let trivial things go, especially early in the game or at crucial moments. As it now stands if it were up to me I would not take up the club option but would give him every chance till round 20 or so.

In saying that, if I'm an opposition team all I would do is put a slightly late shot on Luciano in the first 5 mins and know I will be living rent free in BJ's head all game. He needs to learn to channel his emotions and concentrate on his own team.
