Joey Leilua Talks 2020, Pre Season Weight Loss

Last year was a write off for a lot of players with Covid, family concerns and fitness. I think BJ will fire as Douihei is a better fit for him than Benji.
BJ can’t cover weak halves and he was paired with Benji, Garner and Nofa. Defensively that can’t happen again. He needs early ball and has to be our hit up man out of the red zone he can damage teams from our own end.

I’m looking for Blore, Douihei, BJ and Nofa to be our right edge it’s stronger defensively and will provide more potency with early ball.

Even this year his dirty carries were excellent. Charged at the line and made a real impact - unfortunately that’s where he saw the ball 95% of the time

Well, it's contract year and if Joey doesn't perform he'll get the boot alright.

The big question is where our points come from.

Some have been suggesting that without Benji will will struggle to score points.

It was interesting that after Benji went off in the last match against Parra and Doueihi moved to 5/8, we scored 3 tries (2 try assists to Doueihi). Doueihi could have had a third try assist but Talau dropped the ball with the line open.

It was a great audition for the 5/8 spot. If we are to have any chance of success next season Doueihi needs to fire.

I didn't even think he was that bad. He did play bad at times, but a lot of Nofoaluma's success can be attributed to BJ Leilua. His presence created a lot of doubt for opposition wingers.

Think he went missing in games with his ball carries out of line but did notice later in the season picked up that aspect of his game. Good that he has shed the KG's and is fit.

There are 2 reasons - Contract year (Club Option) and genuine competition for spots with Momo returning.

With no Benji crabbing across field more direct ball and him fitter should pay dividends and we need our strike weapons firing to make the 8 in 2021.

I'm just saying I'm tired of it. We haven't made the finals for a long time. The players can always say "we will let our actions tell the story"
Its always this preseason is the best.
