John Bateman #268

The club are simply taking the appropriate steps/measures to ensure he's meeting the required levels of fitness, not only to ensure he's capable of performing at optimal levels but is also essential for injury prevention.
I trust people more knowledgeable in Sport Science know what's best for him.

We've really only been able to monitor it for the past two weeks, as otherwise the tailored training methods he's been doing in the background does little for factors like fatigue and motor skills or whatnot.
The guy is a professional and played in the World Cup.
There’s no way he is too underdone to give us 25 minutes.
If he is, then heads should roll for the management of him whilst he was stuck in the old dart.

Sorry I'm talking about following procedures, it's what everyone professional sporting organisation would do, I assume.
Performance parameters need to be tested to ensure he's regained full strength and fitness, regardless of his WCC appearance.

Yep...the club is full of it, sadly.

Bateman is a seasoned vet...coming off a world cup...played multiple finals...played a GF...and been in Aus almost three weeks...

But he is too much "risk" for 25 mins...but you can throw in a 19 yo kid on debut, who is still two years away physically.

Just be honest and say he has an injury.

Stop all the "we have him four years, I don't care about four weeks" crap also...we may be 0-4.

Same crap Sheens has spun re Jacko leaving...Sheens has already changed both stories 2 or 3 times.

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has fired a shot at sections of the media over the reporting of recruit John Bateman’s absence in the opening rounds of the season.

Hagipantelis addressed more than 200 guests inside the Centurions Lounge at Leichhardt Oval before kick-off against the Knights on Sunday, using his speech to defend himself and the club against suggestions the Tigers were misleading people over Bateman’s fitness.

The Herald was at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, when Hagipantelis reiterated the club’s position that Bateman was being rested to give him time to acclimatise after a shortened pre-season, and was not suffering from an ankle injury.

“Despite my public assurances that John Bateman is not playing due to any injury but rather for the reasons I have set out, there is still a section of the media that refuses to accept such declarations but rather, has positively asserted that we are fibbing and misleading our fans,” Hagipantelis told the club’s corporate partners and members.

“The public declarations which I make are based upon the information and assurances that I receive from those within the club who are possessed of the particular information. To suggest that I am fibbing or misleading our supporters necessarily implies that somehow I have been deceived as well.

“And knowing that deceiving the chair would not be a healthy career choice leads me to believe that what I have been told is absolutely correct and this is the information which I have imparted publicly. And there has never been any reason for me to question it.”

The Tigers have long held a view that they are unfairly targeted by certain sections of the media. The Herald approached Hagipantelis after the speech. He wouldn’t identify who he was referring to but said people could work it out.

“It did not take long for the club to become the target of slurs by a section of the media more intent on generating clickbait,” Hagipantelis also said in his speech.

“If any section of the media has evidence to establish that what I have said publicly is false or misleading, then I would invite them to provide [the] same to me. I would also caution anyone to suggest publicly that I have lied or misled our supporters. Some may construe such remarks as defamatory.

“Utilising the immortal words of Mark Twain in his 1889 Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court: “said journalists can put up, or shut up”. I apologise for the dark and somewhat sombre tone of today’s address.”

“I felt it necessary to ensure that all of those who are here fully understood that any and all information imparted on behalf of this club will be completely transparent and forthright. Please enjoy the afternoon. And I very much look forward to celebrating a Wests Tigers victory with you all later today.”

Bateman is expected to make his Tigers debut in round four.

Will be very interesting...Bateman is a warrior, and yes he does yell and bark at team mates...he has been known to give serves to Graham, Burgess and co...

But...he has played with tough, hard blokes...who cop a verbal and fire up.

If John gives it to Laurie...Brooks...Nofa...Twal...

Do they lift OR have a sulk? That will be the question.

Do they all laugh out loud and keep on smiling that Twal has never scored a try? Or does Bateman say "mate, you have not scored in over 100...that is because you are soft. You should have planted that on sunday with aggression. You are soft, mate".

Do we all fire up...or have a sulk.

Hopefully fire up.

We are about to find out.

If he can't change the culture, no one can.

Hahaha is he the thinnest skin man on the planet???

'Say nice things about me or I'll sue you!'

We have not had a good run of chairpeople. It's easy to be critical of Lee and Pascoe going off of on field results, but we don't know what's happening behind the scenes.

What is embarrassing and amateur about Lee is his ridiculously desperate attention seeking and big man overclaiming like how he handled the Cowboys game and Tommy Raudonakis' death and the Mitchell negotiations and the Aloiai situation. He's just not good at handling the media, and that's surely a decent portion of his role, putting aside what he may or may not be doing well behind the scenes.

Bro, this part really got me good lol

Surely we don't actually have plays do we.
Of course we do but they are so complex that even the guys that have had a full pre-season are still struggling to get their heads around them.

This is why John Bateman needs more time out of the game to learn these extremely intricate plays.

It's not just 5 hit ups and a bomb you know.

Rubbish we have been crucified by the media for quite a few years now! Unfairly, as I have stated previously the dogs have won twi wooden spoons and been worse than us for the past 5-6 years. Yet nothing about them being ‘dreadful’ During that time. Not in the fox shows as headliner every episode! It is click bait and people have been quoting this way before lee mentioned it. Dogs were getting beaten by 40 point regularly through this period, yet hardly a negative work spoken. More like poor bulldogs.
It’s bullshit, I don’t know about going public with it. But, something has to give. It’s a ‘witch hunt’ and if we are being bullied.
I know some people on this forum believe we deserve it, and we do to a point, but no more than the dogs did deserve.
He’s called them out and let’s see how PK and his folly deal with it, ‘put up or shut up’!!

He has that real arrogance about him doesn't he.
