John Grant never to play NRL?

I know the guy who runs ZT, its just a matter him not updating yet. Just waiting on better confirmation rather then taking RLW at their word.

Gee a bit harsh on Grant, has a bit to learn sure an off season could be what he needs but what he has is size speed and can learn and improve. Ryan, Utai Loti are as good as they will be. In respect of Utai to me would make a great lock, Loti is sadly past it, and Ryan seems to have lost his speed and forgot how to pass the ball and we all know we have lost speed within the team. I sure hope he stays and makes it, we need change and no more of the rubbish thats been served up for the last few seasons.

I know that–but I think Sheens has other views. Koro proved what a great asset speed is and Grant is a yard quicker. I just cant see Ryan and Utai winning us a comp, they are handy but their is no x factor[/quote I think your on the money with this comment good reliable players but no x factor korro has shown what the x factor is about.I would persist with Grant for another year but he might return to union...sometimes persistence pays off ,tall ,fast and knows the way to a try line there's plenty of x factor to work with IMO .

For those who have seen him play, could he be turned into a centre? He has the physical attributes and we are in need of a right centre, so I wouldnt mind taking a punt on Grant or Nofo at right centre in place of Ayshford

That's a big punt given he can't even make the state cup team on the wing. I'd think his defence is a big question mark in terms of him playing centre at NRL level. He'd get found out pretty quick.

Correct Yoss Centre is the hardest position to defend on the football field due to the different angles , decoy runner etc

You need years of experience to learn it properly Dermo

Indeed centres do need to be quality defenders, but is Grants defence at a level where he could learn to defend there? I wouldn't know and I doubt he will ever play there, but Ayshford was a turnstile this year and Beau wasn't much better when he played there

I would give Grant another year & see how he goes, as for him playing in the centres i think he has enough on his plate learning league on the wing.

he is recovering from a shoulder injury apparently. The injuries have slowed his progress, i have no doubt he has the ablity to be an nrl player, he may not get an opportunity given our most promising nyc players are both wingers

Is an ok player but will never be a solid 1st grader….. Good back up player though. Well might be a good back up player in a few years.
Hytchcox has it over him now also. Just an all round better player with close to as much pace. If Lincoln Port put on some size he could be a gun also.

Saw Grant play for the State Cup side earlier in the season and remember he was big, quick and great in the air however what struck me was his total avoidance of the hard yakka work out of his own half. He didn't scoot once. Didn't seem interested in helping out with the dog work.

Hopefully this improved as the year went on.

I saw him play on Fox for BRET and he definitely was taking it out of his own end. That was the thing I was most impressed by. He was more effective at hitups than the forwards.

That's good to hear, because he is built like a block of flats (Meriton or otherwise). Perhaps I got him on a bad day.
The lad has always had plenty of ability … Remember first seeing him at fullback for the StIgnatius College rugby team (think he played in the same side as Blockers son ) ... And would love to see him get a crack in 2013.

i reckon with ryan going and possibly ayshford he will get a run next year, reading between the lines (which i was never that good at ) i see koro, nofo, utai vein first choice wingers/center, and prob benjis brother from another mother cause lets face it he will be there somewhere

Utai hasn't been offered a new contract as far as I am aware. I think the Tigers are clearing the decks for someone big just quietly.

That would be the logical assumption, but logic isn't a word I would associate with our current management.
Who could we possibly be going after this late in the year? I wouldn't imagine there would be too many big name players available at the moment. I spose as we've seen contracts mean nothing these days though…

Aww man wouldn't that be something. That would shut up a lot of the whinging in a heartbeat.

1\. Tedesco
2\. Tuqiri/Utai/Nofoaluma/My grandma/Who really cares because the other four are so awesome
3\. Lawrence
4\. Jennings
5\. Koroibete

Mmmm yes please.

But I was actually thinking potentially for down the line. If the Tigers wanted to come in significantly under the cap next year and front load some contracts they could spend up big on a JT or someone of that ilk.
