I followed balmain back in the 80s and still love my team the west tigers hi guys im new to this forum and couldnt help wondering whats happening to John Grants future

doen anyone know? im hopeing he stays.

Welcome, I don't think Grant will be resigned with Asipeli Fine, David Nofoaluama, Marika Koroibete and Kurtis Rowe all great young talents in NYC i can not see the coach wanting Grant and also there are rumours about Tigers talking to Jennings so I am not sure.

real shame to see him go if no one saw him this year well here you go:

Shame.

Just goes to show how tough it is to get a gig in the NRL because he certainly showed potential…. in the youtube video.

Faster then Korobiete apparently . Hopefully Nofa gets a chance early next year.

Good luck to him.

Probably the best thing for his career as he was behind Koro, Utai, Lote & maybe even Nofo. He had a few injuries this year & might not of enjoyed his year in league & wanted to go back to rugby. Not sure what Smeg's take on him is, but I'll go with his astute judgement. Was always a risk for him to make FG starting league so late but all the best John.

I'm not surprised to see him go back to Union. He's got some talent, but he still had a fair way to go to make it in FG.

He had nothing to lose and everything to gain. He was plucked from Shute Shield and will now land play Super 15's next year. Couldn't have worked out better for him, and good luck to him. Hope he makes the most of it.

Had the skills and the potential, just needed a coach with a little vision and much less conservatism. Our backline was for the most part a popgun outfit. To ignore a 195cm athlete who runs even time was almost culpable. Those last eight or so weeks could not have been any worse with Grant occupying wing or fullback in first grade. That highlight reel emphasizes the quality and timing of his leap. Leaving it so late to bring Koro on board was equally stupid

Sheens had nothing to do with it. One thing Sheens should be given credit for is blooding new talent who are NRL standard. Grant wasn't good enough.
Tigers media talked him up like he was going to be the next superstar.
Pre-season reports about Grant not being up to NRL standard have proven correct.
Another dud recruitment.

He wasn't good enough, yet the backline crew we marched out in the second half of the season was? How many of our backs , the ones largely responsible for our appalling attacking stats, were of NRL standard? Grant was hardly trying to break into the QLD SOO side, this is the 2012 Tigers we're talking about.

Oh yes, he's 'still yet to learn then defensive structures in RL' seemed to be a popular line. Yeah right, adopt your up and in or outside shoulder alignment, plan for the inevitable decoy and then position yourself on the last tackle, lol

How was he a poor recruit?

Meh highlights reel. Can make anyone look good tbh. Koroibete has a highlights reel for first grade already in 7 games and not some of it against 7s.
Potential maybe but potential only. Even with Beau gone still plenty of depth on wing, mix of experience and talent.

He was worth the risk and it didn't come off

Many clubs take risks and with possible players on second tier contracts

Good luck John in your future endeavours

No backs outside of an ever changing halves combo will find anything much of substance

Grant was just another in the culture thats seeped in here….boys club, its still here if Georgy & Simmons are assts
Another dud waste of time recruit...was never going to make it in league, not tough enough, back to the kick n clap

The other thing which counted against Grant in the backend of the season was the fact he was carrying a shoulder injury and in the end couldn't make the bench for Balmain after he started to show some promise, but then suffered the injury.

lol, if he'd had tatts you would have loved him

I feel sorry for Grant. It was always going to be a case of "a step behind" until he got a foot in the door. That never happened though. The writing though was on the wall, of all Tim Sheens experiments, only one even made half a flurry of a career and he did that at the Dragons - Jarrod Saffy. And he went back to rugby too.

Grant was definitely good enough for first grade. Anyone who says he wasn't didn't watch him play at all. I have no idea how Agia ended up keeping him out of a spot in BRET because that guy is ordinary.

Thanks for the clip mate. As an 'out of towner' I have never seen him play for BRET and have no opinion other than what I have just seen. His defence is lacking, with no real technique and some of his finishing wasnt 1st grade worthy. However he keeps his wing and has explosive pace. His is big and not scared to cart the ball up and he is superb in the air. We really could have done something with this bloke considering this was his first crack at league.

Some players excell when dropped in the deep end and i think he may well have got a shot in 2013 just to see whether he could handle the gig. Anyway, good luck to him.

DIsa

Please. I saw pretty much every game he played in NSW Cup, and he was a great talent with plenty of speed, but not quite at FG level. And the reason he wasn't in the side late on was partly due to the fact he was carrying a shoulder injury, but also to do with a policy Fletcher put in place that he would only pick people in his side that could tackle, so obviously there was significant doubts about him defensively.

I'm disappointed he is going back to rugby, but we still have the likes of Koroibete, Noafoluma, Hitchcox coming through the system with raw pace and finishing ability.
