Let's wait and let player and coach have a meeting first before hypothesising about scenarios.

I reckon they would release him in a trade. Their backs are lean, problem is we don't have anyone they would want. South would gladly swap Johnson for jac and while it's a downgrade for the storm it's still a player with a proven strike record.

I think Bellamy would see potential in the likes of Momirovski or Talau. In fact he might prefer those guys to someone likes Johnston who has had plenty of chances to show his ceiling and never risen to any great heights. These kinds of trades aren't like for likes, they're more just a matter of getting something out of a bad situation (a player wanting to leave).

We don't need to offer storm anything

We can't even officially talk to JAC

If he wants out that bad he just needs to call matto and moses for advice

If he does end up with a release we can than offer a contract

He might not even want to come here

Talau is off limits anyway

They can give him permission to negotiate, after which they point they might start talking to other clubs looking to broker a trade. Then it becomes a question of what we're prepared to offer (if anything). We don't need to offer them anything but if we don't then they won't be very inclined to release him...

My point though that I ahouldve mentioned is that Josh seems pretty desperate to get out of Melbourne

They can play hardball all they want but as we've seen in the past contracts are easily beaten

And if Josh really wants out for family reasons which I think has been reported as having custody of a young child so he can be close to family he will probably end up with a release no strings attached

And if that is the case the storm should let him go

Many other players get releases just for being heartless

At least Josh has a proper reason

He is not just chucking a tantrum like those other sooks did

gee the shoes on the other foot, poor storm. its o.k when there getting the deal done in there favour but when it happens to them they want to play hard ball. all he needs to do is play the mental health card and away he goes.

As far as I know no Australian court is likely to order JAC to actually play for the Storm under his current contract. What they can do is prevent him from playing for anyone else whilst under contract to them and maybe award damages for his refusal to play for them if they can demonstrate a financial loss due to that breach. Doesn't really help the Storm in terms of player availability.

The Storm do a lot wrong that are worthy of criticism (the wrestle, salary cap cheating in the past) but I dont see this is something that they do wrong. When was the last high profile player they signed? Who was the last player they signed when still under contract to another club?

The storm are well within their right to make him honor his contract, but that would have far greater negative impact on them than letting JAC play elsewhere.

Storm will probably say you want to be with your family? No worries, we'll help them all move down here...

And give them a free boat to sail down in

Was denied his request for release today

Didn't think he'd get one. Guess he'll try again later on

(Speaking as a Dad myself) if push comes to shove I’m choosing the welfare of my child/family over a football contract. This could backfire badly on Storm if they don’t release him due to exceptional circumstances.

Who cares if he doesn't come to WT? In all seriousness, if the so-called marquee signing turned out to be JAC, then we are totally and utterly a basket case.

I’d take him.
One down, next.

Agreed mate, in this circumstance I think it is a pretty crappy decision on Storm's part.
