A good coach is one who doesnt complain about things surrounding the game. ie Draw, refs , travel etc

A good coach focuses his energy doing what he has been hired for, getting a team to win.

So I take it you think Wayne Bennett, Craig Bellamy, Geoff Toovey and Des Hasler are all no good then?

This I as the type of thread that always comes up after a loss. In reality nothing the coach says in that press conference will change the way the team plays.

Well if you asked for my personal opinion on the coaches you list i would agree to disliking most of them except Bellamy
Throw Sticky in the mix too cause he has no idea.. If he can retain his job i think most other coaches should be safe but not the case.

Like them all not they all have something in common, they're all premiership winning coaches.

This is the best possible time to face the Dogs; they're understrength, possibly overconfident, and we're coming off an embarrassing shellacking by a spoon contender.

I agree to an extent. I'd be surprised if we pumped them by 20, but we have everything to play for and the players should be itching to get out there and make amends for the past few weeks. We certainly have the talent to win, it's staying switched on for 80 minutes which is the problem.

Psyche 101, me thinks. Taylor has said in the last two games that we ( the players)have owned the result. By saying the draw is unfair puts him back in the players camp….hopefully siege mentality

Mate - JT is clearing decks, so to speak. He is getting rid of whoever wants to go and hasn't recruited anyone. If you look at JT's squad compared to the rest of the NRL its a miracle we are doing as well as we are. His working with the team that got their bottoms smacked last year minus the top players of that under performing team.

What's JT's grand plan? I have no idea.

Man up and instil some confidence in your young players what is this rubbish talk?! It is pathetic, what he has said is beyond me and makes our club look like we don't want to compete. If you can't compete with the best JT then don't compete at all.

"Yeah the draw might be abit weird but it is a great opportunity to play the grand final team 3 times in the first 8 rounds, it really shows us that we are up there with the best if we can get over them"

I don't 100% agree with what he said and the manner he did it but as Geo said he can only answer the questions put forth to him.

To label him a tosser and state that it shows he doesn't want to compete based on that one interview is a complete joke !

Mate i havent said to drop any of the juniors, underperforming players such as Lawrence and Ava yes.

Also it is not a joke, he is basically saying we can not compete week in week out with the best teams.

A bizzarre rant by Taylor. Whinging about the draw and which teams you play based on where they are on the ladder is something you expect from kids in primary school. The Dogs have got plenty injured so what is he whinging about?

Then complaining that they have already played Manly twice? Please, who could have predicted Manly would be last. Does he want the NRL to look into their crystal balls when they release the fixtures or change the draw half way through the year based on how teams are going?

But he does have a point, the draw is a shambles....and if no coaches make an issue with it, nothing will change. Timing is crucial....if you want to say something about it.....before the game doesnt look good, if he says this after the game and a possible loss....it looks even worse imo

The thing is,all teams are in the comp and they have to play against them during the season,in what order doesn't really matter,you still have to play them sometime,it's up to the team to be competitive and JT to put the gameplan in place for the particular opposition.

This is the NRL,not the under 8s having to play the under 10s because of lack of opposition…

The draw can be perceived as unfair,however it doesn't matter who you play and when,it is a new season and the draw is what it is....JT and the team must learn to cope with the schedule and therefore adapt to it...

Taylor shouldn't have had a whinge, simple as that. He should have criticised the draw when it was made months ago, not the a day before the game. That way it would have been legitimate and not come across as defeatist.

Im critical of Taylor for a few things but am i the only one who is seeing this differently.

I see him as a fan of the game and someone who likes to talk footy, whats best for the comp, whats best for the fans.

Its not all about the Wests Tigers and i dont see it as a black and white comment from a whinging coach.

He does look a little foolish complaining about a draw coming up against a side twice in the first eight rounds that has been decimated by injury and suspension.

Other teams won't get that luxury. It's actually worked out in our favour in this instance IMO.

The WTs need to get a lot of things right this week. They have put a lot of pressure on themselves.
I don't mind JTs tact here. He's deflecting the real issues. Gives the media and social media something to talk about. Gives our young squad time to reflect on their own game.
Same way Milky's "embarrassing moments" thread mid week gave us forumers a chance to stop hammering the players and refocus on tonight's game.

Love all the expert commentary here.

No one knows what going on inside the playing group, and no one knows the actual reasons Taylor has raised these issues with the media.

Most likely deflecting other matters and getting the media to talk about something inconsequential (The draw) rather than other issues that may place pressure on a young side coming off an embarrassing loss.

Taking an NRL coach's comments to the media at face value is akin to believing a politician when they make a speech. There is always an ulterior motive and always a game being played behind the scenes.

Judging though by the outcry on here as well as in the general media, JT has achieved his aim perfectly.
