I could imagine a Happy coached Team…All would be 12.4's on the beep test...running precision lines ...He would be calling the fullback out of plays , telling the halves to think ahead and screaming at the outside backs to get deeper and play wider. Then a Couple of the Mum's commented that He worked harder than most the kids , but they understand he is a hall of famer and can take that in his stride

Oh wait...This is about JT...good on him for giving back to the grass roots of the game...

No Geo its about all parents that give back to the game in general , whether it be coaching , acting as a treasurer , helping with the canteen :brick:

This game wouldn't survive at junior level if it wasn't for the volunteers

Maybe you should head out and support your local junior club for one hour a week Geo , they probably would appreciate the help

I do…I just don't brag about it...quiet achiever..

I cook a mean BBQ too.bacon sausage and eggs a specialty...Thanks Hobbs

Happys right Geo , you should make more effort….....

You should at least fly up to Gladstone and help happy set up his Autograph table
You could also help happy out with security , he struggles through the crowd getting to his car , all the mums are throwing their bras and knickers at him :roll

Yeah I can imagine how frustrating it would be.

The problem with so many Parents is they try and put to much pressure on there kids and they become more frustrated than there kids themselves.
Let kids be kids I'd say…..I have seen some parents carry on at there kids games between the ages of 6-9 and you see there kids self esteem slowly getting shot down.

Parents try and live out there dreams pressuring there kids and they forget that Sport at that Age is just FUN!!!!!

Geo would kill it on the BBQ ….
He'd be the (cocktail) version of Tom Cruise with the Spatular & Tongues

I'm concerned about the hygiene issues Hobbo

He's mopping toilets I minute then on the BBQ , cross contamination becomes an issue , the 11 extra herbs and spices he throws in …..... 😱pen_mouth:

Wasn't bragging at all Geo , just amazed I'm still alive and able to function this morning that's all

I think that it's great that Jason Taylor, is involved with his son's team.

Many years ago, 1978, the under 14's team I played in, had a former player, Tony Ford( former Wests's magpies fullback), as our coach.
He was a great coach, very fair and always encouraging, would not tolerate any dirty play, and let it be known from the start.
He taught us all how to play fair, no one person was bigger than the team, and instilled in us a great team ethic and mateship.

Hopefully Jason Taylor, can do the same.

Yeah I think its great hes giving something back to the grassroots, back where it all began, anyone know what club JTs involved with?

Who did you play for Tah?
We had Ken hey as our coach for a season a few years before 78, Concord Utd had Mick Liubinskas coach them at same time, Ive seen Sirro coach both his sons teams, one against my sons team for a few seasons with bayley, and Steve Edmed had Leaichardt Wanderers for a long time…I like to see former first graders give back

Hi Ink, played for Holy Cross College, Ryde Under 14's "B" team.
I played fullback, and left wing, thoroughly enjoyed being coached by Tony Ford.

At a re-union, caught up with other team member's, and we agree of all the coaches we had over the years, the one **_we all fondly remember, and learnt the most from was Tony Ford_**. Not just because we won the comp that year, **_he simply was a great coach and bloke._**
I would like one day to catch up with him and give him a hug and say thanks.

On a side note: The "A" team, had blokes called Paul Clarke, Paul Beavan, and hooker was Ben Elias.
These three are good blokes, and will always take time to have a chat.

hahah…yeah I remember you telling me you played for Cross, just after I clicked submit.
Have you ever tried to find Tony? Im sure it wouldnt be too hard these days with allthe techno we have

I saw that JT is coaching his son's U6 Team.

Good on him for putting something back into the Game…..

Maybe they can show him some moves he can incorporate into the NRL....

To build harmony, he was going to get Robbie to come down to give a pep talk and perhaps manage the team. He thought better of it because there would likely be stories in their school newspaper about what was happening in the team, and a push to have the coach sacked and replaced.

re Tony Ford
Tony was offered a contract from Manly in 1967 and also Newtown in 1970\. He felt that playing for West’s and being loyal to his teammates was more important. During his last 4 years at West’s Tony played for a $5000 sign on fee plus $60 a win and $40 a loss. The write up below says it all they were only young men most were West’s juniors and they played for the greatest club of all West’s.

No wonder Tommy R was still scratching around for money after his retirement

I coached an under 7 mixed hockey team, quite a handful. Had one girl who kept stealing the ball of one of our boy players, no matter how many times I told her she kept doing it.
So I moved her to the left side of the field, told her to stay on that side, put the boy on the right, thought that would do it. She just ran over to the right side and took the ball off him.
I went and approached her and she just took an almighty swing and hit me in the shins with her stick, and it hurt.
I grabbed her stick and thew it off the field, after the game her mum came up for what I thought would be to unload on me. But to my surprise she thanked me, and the girl was fine after that, so good luck JT

You mean even the 6 year olds would get disillusioned about winning wooden spoon and having no ice cream during break?
