Good to see Garner get a well deserved run today.

That said you guys can talk all the facts and figures you want but we should be producing more players and have better junior development relationships in place.

Agreed since the crop of 2012-14….not much has happened..

McDonnell for all his short comings did a decent job with the 20's for a while..

Kelly Egan is highly rated as a recruitment manager but so far not seeing that much output..

I thought that David Warwick was the recruitment manager and Kelly Egan was football manager.

Much like Mcdonnell..Warwick works on lower grades..Egan has the major input for NRL recruitment…

I posted about this in another thread, but it’s probsbly more relavent here. Campbelltown is second only to Penrith as the biggest junior nursery in NSW. When you look at the players it’s produced over the years like Izzy, Hayne, Lawrence (yes I include him, because he would have been the best centre in the game for a decade if not for the hip injury), Tedesco, Hodgson, Hoffman, De Belin, you wonder why we are doing such a poor job. Penrith have them coming out both ends. They genuinely cannot keep them all. Us on the other hand, the only star we’ve developed in the last decade has been Tedesco. The club has been totally incompetent in this area. If we only we could pinch Gus.

I agree, to an extent.
I live in around the Penrith area. I can tell you it is exclusively a one club town, there is the occasional tigers fan or Parra fan but the town, people, juniors, seniors grow up living breathing the Panthers. Even more so now they have a team they can be proud of.
I'm not sure how that feeling compares to Campbelltown and the Magpies or Tigers. But Penrith people resonate with the Panthers and the Penrith Panthers represent them alike.
My feeling is we are nomads.
Our following is divided throughout Sydney.
I admit it's great seeing Tigers fans out my way but it also should be enough to tell you that we are in different situation to the Panthers, Eels, Manly, Cronulla, Newcastle one town mentality and need to be considered differently.

Shouldn't people you are looking for in the lower grades be part of a plan to be a long term part of the NRL squad?

You are wrong about Manly there are more people who live on the peninsula who go for other teams than there are manly supporters. It is far from a one team area

Bugger producing juniors IMO, where does it get us anyway? The club busts its arse unearthing and nurturing a budding star only for clubs like Roosters, Sharks, Broncos etc to pluck them from our grasp. Stuff that.
Where did the results/gratitude come from with "budding superstars" such as the 3 maggots that bailed on us last year? Zero results in the end.
Where did having the best crop of youngsters from 5/6 years ago who got to the GF in the NYC get our club? Nowhere. It is a waste of time, effort and money unearthing young talent when there are clubs with bottomless pits of money/suspect benefits who will pick the carcass clean of any player even remotely talented.
Cherry-pick proven performers from other clubs from here on in IMO.
The NRL refuse to acknowledge or reward clubs who produce their own talent so why should we be a supermarket for wealthy/dodgy clubs to shop at?
There 100% needs to be salary cap concessions for teams who produce their own.

The trouble is a proven performer is not always available and when you buy from other clubs, you take a risk eg Milne, McQueen and Lolohea. With a junior while there are no guarantees, there is at least a history of performances for Balmain or Wests and coaches who know them. But again, you can end up with local juniors who do not possess the right temperament.

OK one club my mistake, Im not David Middleton.
I was making a point about our club, and i don't mean it's divided by the two teams. Even within the two teams our fans are geographically divided, therefore the idea of having Juniors wanting to play for a one town club are now void.
Our Catchment clubs used to be. Not sure now…
Keebra Park - Gold Coast
Holy Cross College - Sydney Ryde
St Gregg - Sydney Campbelltown.
Completely different to the Panthers, from Penrith area and surrounds.
St Dominics - Penrith
St Mary's
St Pats Blacktown - although may have lost some ascoiation due to the Sea Eagles.
Windsor Wolves.
Bathurst / Lithgow / Dubbo.

I think we have an image problem it starts with marquee players and goes right through to the juniors. Promising juniors align themselves with the clubs that are more successful. Its all about money and success - something our club is not known for.
Until we can change that perception cant see much changing on the field for a while yet.

Perfectly put.
After the Leichhardt game I was saying exactly the same thing.
People, players, etc just don't view the Tigers as a successful entity we are just making up the numbers. I almost think a move to Perth would be the best thing for the club but even then, we may have issues being embraced by locals that grew up loving the reds and the pirates.
I don't have the answers but someone needs to start to identify the problems.

Nothing been done properly in the Campbelltown area since 2005\. 13years is a long time to correct your mistakes in player development.

Goes back a long way further than that. Tigers have never taken a keen interest in the juniors out there, but the magpies weren't much better
