Manly has done a raid of some talented Western Suburbs juniors. Bulldogs did the same a few years back.

The magpies are a joke. So incredibly unprofessional.

Not just the magpies - WT asleep at the wheel as well. They are supposedly the ones overseeing the pathways to NRL.

So Balmain got a good win over a highly rated Manly side in SG Ball but all other teams lost. Sadly the Magpies once again got smashed by 50 in SG Ball, it's just so disappointing to see them scraping the barrel talent wise with such a large nursery of talented players in the region.

Who are the standouts to watch in the SG ball this year in your opinion for Balmain ?

Haven't seen the boys play this season yet as the first game was washed out.

Going off last year, in the backs Camroux the captain and goal kicker is a handy 5/8, and Kanaan, Saukuru and Enasio are all fast and talented outside backs.

In the forwards Tumeth is the standout and Guyan is solid, but i haven't seen any of the new faces yet.

Hi BB

What is the problem with the Maggies? Are the best juniors being pilfered by other clubs? Don't we have boots on the ground securing the best in the district or, is the district just not producing the quality of junior required?

In a nutshell yes, seemingly not and yes the region is still doing well.

All the best juniors go to other clubs, the magpies get left with everyone else's rejects despite being the home team.

Don't know why Wests aren't aggressively trying to secure the best young talent, or if they try but always lose out. Surely they can't lose out every single time! If that's the case then they're clearly doing it wrong.

Too much politics. Apparently teams were selected on invite only and certain clubs are given preferential treatment. To put it bluntly the best players arent being selected. This is what i have been told so cant guarantee if that is correct.

That is a really sorry state. Hopefully Hartigan can overhaul the Magpies juniors. We all need to be on the same page.

How can you get the best when invitation only? Many of the best juniors turn up to trial. Magpie members should be demanding an overhaul of the junior system.

And the follow on effect is that players who should at least be given a trial start to look elsewhere for an opportunity.

As an organisation why would they routinely exclude the best players from the best clubs, and only invite 'losers' to play with them? And consequently come last every year?! It's self sabotage and yes if I were a member of the magpies rlfc i'd certainly be demanding an internal investigation and mass sackings.

Hopefully Hartigan can coax some common sense into them and actively manage both Balmain and Wests, while also looking to cherry-pick the best of elsewhere...

The irony of course being the Maggies always fielded teams with players who turned up for a run. Really, we know a lot of effort is through volunteers but this is not good enough. Has anyone asked WTs to provide a respected figure like Brett Hodgson to oversee the juniors?

There was an article where Hartigan talked about our junior reps. Hopefully he makes a big improvement to it.

Just blow up the magpies and start again from scratch. Half the problem is local kids think of the magpies as a loser club where you'd only go as a last resort.

I hope he has a great season and progresses through to WTs. We have a chance to tap into the Australian Lebanese talent pool in the inner west.
