Junior Tupou #254

I feel like they have been kicking to him every time so the smaller winger on the other side, Staines or Nofo, gets the second tackle carry that they can drive back and get us in the back foot for the set.

He’s had some very strong kick returns/carry’s for us the last couple of weeks.

He had a quiet game today but I think he is one of the guys most likely to make a bust. Do we move him into the centres and try to get him more ball ?

Its funny how the Madge haters couldnt wait to get rid of him before thinking how much thought Madge put into recruiting good players after the garbage he was left with and tried to win games with while having no cap money or junior pathway to pick from,he gets the pathways going again, gets Api,Paps and Junior T,then gets the arse while Sheens swaps Jacko for Klemmer and gets Bateman...I think Madge was the scapegoat so Sheens could be coach and put in Benji as his replacement with no coaching experience,I wish Madge had this team and squad to work with,I bet the haters would be in the shadows like some of the Brooks lovers have been...
Has anybody heard from paws ????

He was coach at the time it's a formality that the coach has his little say on a signing announcement. Doubt he was identified or develop by madge. Madge was disastrous for the club.

no. the last thing he needs while he's playing consistent first grade is another positional move. let him develop on the wing for the time being and get used to week to week first grade and then think about moving him to the centres in say late 2024 or early 2025.

Player must play at his best position, rotating players just because we did not address our issues is wrong. These issues MUST be addressed without compromising others, e.g. Farah to HB, Fulton/Lawrence to 5/8, Tedesco to LC etc.

I probably sound like a broken record to those who have read my posts previously, but I don't understand the constant calls for Tupou (and often times other good wingers) to be moved into the centres.

They're totally different positions and imo, winger is more valuable in this era with a focus on long and cross-field kicks, the 7-tackle set and the removal of the corner post.

The Roosters have moved Sualii in from the wing and it's been an awful move. He was arguably the best winger in the comp last year and has struggled at centre and that's as a player who played fullback growing up so it's not as though he had no experience as a ball-player or passing the ball.

Junior Tupou could be a weapon on the wing for a decade much like his namesake Daniel has been for the Roosters. Maybe we can try him out in the centres for a few games at the end of the year when we've got nothing to lose, but I wouldn't actively try to move him there when it would be easier just to sign an upgrade in the centres or even just hope Kepaoa continues to develop/Naden finds some form.

See your point L and endorse your comments about Suali but also remember he’s probably got other things on his mind!
A winger is only as good as his centre and our left centre position is always mediocre at best coz we do t have anyone capable of maximising Tupou,so most of his breaks have to made from broken field running.
The only thing I would say to endorse his move to centre is that he may get his hands on the ball a bit more often, and possibly make line breaks which are pretty thin on the ground for us.

NSW coach Brad Fittler on Junior Tupou

‘He’s definitely one of ours. Ive been watching him since he was junior Blue in 2018, some guys you just know straight away have the talent, he was one of them’

Early days for him but interesting watch long term as he qualifies for NSW, NZ and Tonga

Just like Stefano, the sky is the limit. Both of them could be the best in their positions in the competition. A lot of hard work is needed to achieve it, but the potential is there.

Love JT's put down for his first try
The poor bloke thought he had 10 players on him the way he put the ball down when nobody was there almost injuring himself 😂
Btw congrats on the double

Clubs priority during the bye should be in discussions in locking down Junior Tupou ASAP. On the market for 2025 as of Nov 1 + no doubt will already have Aus rugby sniffing around again.

There was some talk post game Saturday that Reuben Cotter told Tigers that Junior was the hardest player to tackle he’s come up against. Not bad for a 20 year old winger.
