Zero idea in defence is my main worry with him , zero awareness to run the ball around to the posts.

He’s 21 second first grade game, defensively centre is one of the hardest positions. It’s been stated over and over by many in the game. I wouldn’t say zero either, he is young and naive but will learn with time. Being better by toia with footwork is not hard to do, he’s known for his footwork. He over chased better than just waiting for them. There was also plenty of others on the weekend that didn’t run the ball closer to the posts.

All that is well and good,
His defence has also been ordinary in reserve grade as has been mentioned here again and again.

Benefit of the doubt is always warranted, if a player can’t defend in reserve grade, he’s not going to learn in first grade
- can almost promise that.

From what I’ve seen in reserves,
it’s not a skillset issue, more of a desire issue.
If he wants to have an NRL career, he’ll need to find it.
