Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Some big names in the squad, but you would hope that we prioritise Jersey Flegg/Cup training/game time of some players instead giving them a long season with SG Ball at the start of it.

Apparently we have picked up a few Manly players from their Harold Matts winning squad a few years back (the side that had the Fainu brothers and Feledy).
I’d honestly play all our guns in sg ball it’s only an 8 week season and giving all our future guns time on the field together in the lower grades will greatly benefit them in the future playing with each other in the nrl

The club needs to provide its fans with hope for the future what better way to do it then buy dominating the sg ball

Yeah I get what you are saying, but they need to make sure we don't hinder the progression of players. This year was not a good example of how to progress these talented players into higher duties. Some guys are well and truly ready for Flegg and Cup duties and should be getting ready for Round 1 of that.

The fact we have got plenty of quality players in this squad (including some new recruits from Manly) tells me that we probably will have quite a few in this squad move up before or early into the SG Ball season.

the calibre and depth of these outside backs for this squad is incredible. Craig, L. Laulili'i, Waqa, Willett, Gallagher, Oitmann, Quiroz-Mapusua, Fuatimau and Colquhoun, plus new recruits Max Taotua and Calvin Levy. Joey Saukuru is going to have his work cut out for him sorting out who the back five is to begin the year.

Keppie should partner Mason at the scrumbase, but Dion Williams (Westfields Sports halfback) and even Tajh Colquhoun could push for selection. will be interesting to see what the plan is there.
With the new Manly players, the back 5 is certainly stacked. I would imagine that Laulili'i, Craig and Willet are definitely going to feature there somewhere. Oitmann must be highly rated to feature in the junior blues development squad last Summer, so you would think he is a good chance. Then you have the Manly recruits! Might need a couple to push into different roles to make it work!

I really rate Colquhoun in the halves. Hope he gets a decent crack this year.

Absolutely, it would be madness to hold our elite juniors back. Especially given the complete lack of talent available in Flegg (unless we're planning to recruit heavily just for that grade).
Anyone on an NRL or Dev contract should play no lower than Flegg. They're professional fulltime footballers, so playing with part time teammates in a junior comp doesn't really help develop much and it also increases the chances that when they do get promoted they get burnt out earlier in the season than need be, like Faagutu this year.

Perssonally i'd have Miller, Laulilii x2, TDS and Galvin all straight to Flegg. Nav Willett is an unknown and may depend how his preseason is, but he was playing open age footy all year so playing against kids may also be beyond him, though if it helps him settle in Sydney then all good

Agreed with Miller, Kit, TDS and Galvin...straight to Flegg (or potentially Cup for TDS and Kit)

Nav Willett I am happy to see start at SG Ball as he is unknown as you said and didn't play any SG Ball last season either. Get him into our system, build some confidence and then move up if deserved.

They need to decide with Luke Laulili'i if he will move forward more as a fullback or a winger. I would have Mason playing Flegg fullback and getting experience there, so if the club see Laulili'i as a potential fullback too, I think it will be SG ball for now. Personally I hope we look to play him as a winger moving forward.

Will be a good challenge for our Wests side especially with no galvin, miller, kit & da silva who have been the cornerstone of this team for the last couple of years. I think the likes of Mason Luke laulil'i & luke keppie will really need to step up and fill the void left.

Navrin Willett - WTs beat the Sydney Swans and host of other NRL clubs for his services. He has a 4 year contract with WTs. He was also selected in the Knights HM team as a centre in 2022 and was a part of the Knights' junior system.

He made his debut for the Taree City Bulls First Grade in 2022.

In my view I'd say his fullback days are over. Like Nof as a junior, he has a variety of skills but power is his main go and I can see him having a decent career on the wing, hoped he can channel To'o more than Nof

Welc to the Forum Mate

U seem to know a bit about the Jnrs which is needed

Credit has to go to our Pathways recruitment & retention. Out of all our squads, the only players who have not been listed who had been earmarked by some as having big futures are:

Mikey Nasser (Balmain HM fullback)
Paul Johnson (Macarthur WT fullback/wing)
Sosefo Finau (Wests SG 2nd row)

On the flip side we have some good talent previously in the Manly system now with us.
