Justin Pascoe Letter to Members and Fans

Cudos to TT. Couldn't say it better.
Now I don't know how long most of you have followed the Wests tigers for but if it was from before 2003 I'd be surprised you'd have an issue with what is happening.
That was the year Robbie debuted playing about 4 games off the bench, the early assessment was that we had a young Benny Elias on our hands.
During that year and the following 2004 Wests tigers were well served with choice of dummy halves.
Robert Mears and Darren Senter, the captain whom by all reports was ushered into an early retirement at the ripe old age of 32.
Here is an extract from Wikipedia about what happened to Robert mears, playing some great football at the time.
"Mears joined the Wests Tigers on a one-year deal for the 2002 season. His return to the NRL proved to be a success and he played 24 games for the Wests Tigers, earning a new contract in the process. Mears played for the Wests Tigers for two more seasons, playing in 33 more games. He was released from his contract at the end of 2004 due to the emergence of Robbie Farah as a hooker at the Tigers." Wow I'm shocked!
Anyway back then the club made arrangement to ensure this young gun was happy to stay at the club.
2005 came around and farah was our only recognized hooker in the club and started on the bench in the first 4 rounds with guess what, another back-rower filling in at hooker starting in the 9: Ben Galea. Sheenious.

I have no doubt that had Farah gracefully backed out at the end of last year, we would of seen the emergence of Jacob Liddle a little bit quicker than it has played out. I'm sure taylor would of loved that also.

The way we have played this year, with the halves getting clean early ball and playing off the back of that, the team has been set up so that it doesn't run from dummy half. Taylor is coaching the team to it's strengths not just for the present, and this is most important; for the FUTURE.
As in, you've just got your red P's and your father hands you the keys to the Bentlley, saying "get out there and drive, don't worry if you scratch it a little bit, there's insurance for that, but most importantly I want you to get used to driving. And not just driving it for the sake of it, I want you to test it. I want you to learn to feel the car, listen to how it roars, understand how it takes corners." Daunting at first and you would probably prefer if your dad went with you on the drive but, we all know you learn to survive best when thrown in the deep end.
I couldn't fault how taylor has managed to bring our young team together and the way they have grown in confidence taking control and being responsible for all their actions. He has made sure everyone of those players know that they are accountable for how they play the game. That's why he never blames the refs, that's why he focuses on performances. It's all about developing a team of PROFESSIONAL athletes.

One other thing people have noted with Farah being one of best defensive player. That is true and it goes along with what i'm saying above. Without farah there other people need to make those tackles as in they don't have a choice to the matter. This isn't just about attacking cohesion but defence of the team as a whole, learning to play for one another mate alongside mate, going through the trenches hand in hand rather than getting their former comander to take the steps beforehand.

Thank god the club is moving forwards and with a clear and coordinated direction.
One final thing, go back and watch the first 20mins of our last 4 games without Farah. Then watch the first 20mins of our last 4 games we played with Farah starting at hooker and you tell me Jason taylor has it wrong.
It was clear to me after watching the first 2 games at the start of year.

Im also of the opinion that this is a make or break year for Taylor and at some point recently, Mr Pascoe has had some deep conversations about what he expects from the team… would not surprise me that Pascoe has given taylor the green light in knowing that the outcome is at least 1 of them won't be there next season and at least we can put it all behind us.

Personally I hope it is taylor that wins out this one!

All good as far as I am concerned. If Bennett was coach, Robbie would have retired, like many QLD greats in the recent past. Even Mr Parker is retiring and I believe he has at least an other good year in him. Don't get me wrong, its not Robbie's fault he has a back-ended contract. He deserves to be paid what is due to him. Those responsible seemed to have got away with the utmost of stupidity. To be honest the recent Parra board are rocket scientists compared to those morons. I don't even know who they are, nor do I care. Just hope they are no longer being paid by the club for their inept services. In the recent years with all the issues with players and conflict, there has always been one common denominator. The problem will be gone in good time. Can't wait for the day. We should be …but can't...but could have been blooding Jacob! As for JT. There are many times I didnt think he selected the best team, and have been totally pissed. But is easy for me to say, I am not the coach. Just a passionate supporter and to be honest I could have been a better one as well. That is, being more supportive to the team at the very least. I am not a JT fan, but that's because I am a back seat coach. In reality we all are, being forum members. Being oblivious to the constraints with team selections, player interactions, player personalities, friction etc On this occasion and for the reasons tabled (put in a nice and simple way) I believe the coach is right. I believe that no matter the repercussion by fans and supporters, I feel that JT has listened to the players, to the team, seen the difference, in interaction of groups and changes depending on presence. I wonder what our young player makers are saying and feeling with the decision. I can take a guess, and the last thing I want to hear is chinese whispers. Which in reality is what you get on forums of any type. The proof will be in the pudding. I bet when Robbie is not around we will see the difference, we may not see it at the Club Level in 2017, but you will see it in Origin. So much to say that it is obvious NSW will win at least 8 of the next 10 series. The energy will be different. No offense Robbie but I would guess that like in the last 5 years at least you are a loner at the club, and yes it hurts when you give all of yourself. And if so why? I bet you are not quiet, especially behind closed doors, and hopefully you are honest and considerate and unselfish within your peers. I hope I am wrong and sincerely apologise if I am. But from me you will not get any pussy footing around. Sometimes feelings do get hurt. The truth is...you are not at your peak. We all need to accept decisions, in this case the team selection. If I was in your shoes, I would suck it up (say nothing to no one) I would play my best, give all of myself and hope that it enough to regain selection. All players must earn the jersey. It is not an entitlement. We live in a society of entitlement. Thats the first mistake. It is now in the run home, that we as supporters have the duty to support our club. I believe that if we do, the players will feel it and will then give a little more of themselves, in which case we will make the 8 and give it a good shake. Its not so hard. I am grateful and thankful that I live in the best country in the world. That I have my health as do my family. That I am a Wests Tiger Supporter. I will not take any of this for granted. There are many millions that would gladly have what we do. Lets not take it for granted, and to be honest, there are moments that I do. Go Wests Tigers!!!! Lets get together and kick some Dragon butt this weekend!!

Pascoe's statement mostly says nothing about anything, especially about the only important thing today - the decision to drop one of our in-form and rep players, Robbie Farah, to reserves for a game that we desperately need to win.

Pascoe clearly makes the point that this decision was that of the coaching staff, not of himself, the CEO. If the 'experiment' fails, and we lose to St George on Sunday, the coach has been positioned to wear all the blame. Bang in the face.

Could it be Pascoes intention to push the coach out the door, where he belongs? Jason Taylor has demonstrated that he lacks the interpersonal skills to coordinate a team of human beings to achieve anything.

The board backs his decision because they said they would back him as coach but they didn't make the decision. Taylor said himself the decision was his and he'd see whether or not it was a good one after the game. He knows he has to live with the consequences of the decision, yet he made it anyway. Living by the sword! At least he has the courage of his convictions.

I'm all for Robbie moving on….but not in this way. Show some Respect, Pascoe and JT.

Given that Robbie chose to back himself and take them on when the writing was clearly on the wall this was inevitable. He's a professional sportsman, and a businessmen, he is no doubt is aware of the consequences and possibilities of his situation

Nothing in Pascoes statement that offers fans hope this situation will be extinguished any time soon. Wonder when his next statement will be forthcoming ?

I felt that Robbie was just what we needed in this game, attacking flair and unpredictability, I just hope that Mitch & Luke can make up for it in spades, Elijah may have come as our saviour but he is not A Hooker/Dummy half and should never be utilised as such, he is an attacking weapon not a tackler, really Elijah has been called on to do so much tackling when he should be a creative spark!.

Here's some truth for all of you …Robbie's past his prime,we are developing the future of the club with our 1,6,7...and a 9 to come...Liddle...Farah was great in his day, that is starting to come to an end.. Legend, champion great bloke ,whatever, his day has dawned and he can't handle it..get the hell out of the way and let the younger guys have their turn just as you did Robbie,JT is the coach and his staff have to help him developed a team for the future and benefit of the club...All the loyalist on here should realise this is a bussines and not a benevolent society as it has been...its about time the higher echelon have made hard desicions for the benefit of the club..if you can't handle the true facts of NRL and bussines ,then go and buy some tissues for your issues...thanks for your services Rob,but please move on as many before you have... . .cheers ....to whom it may concern...

Here is the thing though. Robbie is under contract for this year and next year. He is the best hooker in the club. He should be playing.

What you and others are stating is let's show no integrity whatsoever because that's business. I work for a big business and if the company started acting that way morale goes down and people don't perform as well as they could.

I agree with moving Robbie on. It should be done though at the end of his contract and not like this.

I don't blame him. I think it's Taylor's decision. I also think Taylor should be sacked because of it.

I agree that Farah isnt at his peak.
But he's better than anyone we have by a country mile. And we are paying him.
We are still in with slight contention for 8th spot , and should have no trouble in beating the Dragons, but why would Taylor take the chance of dividing the team at this time.
we have to beat better sides every week to get in. Sides should be picked on form, not on personal hatred.
It looks like he's given up on 2016, just to try and push Farah out, and has made that his main objective, not the chance of a spot in the 8.
The sooner Taylor is gone, the better for the team

GCT,here we go again,Farah is beyond his prime,he had his heydays,he was captain and we didn't make the finals in recent years. . but then again it must always be the coaches fault….he is at the end of his career, there will be life without RF,let the youth have a go,after all we have invested heavily in them, let them show some of that great potential they are known to have,Robbie showed his and its time to go,he is not the club as many here think he is....900,000 dollars for 20/30 mins a game doesn't cut it anymore....lose the rose coloured glasses and move on GCT....

What a load of dribble …
If Farah goes or stays in reggies we still have to pay him $950 k

He's been going good playing off the bench in his last couple of games ..
So TT who do you rate as our best hooker ??

Hobbo,RF is the best hooker out of a bad lot,Ball in injured,Chery injured,Liddle salary cap restrictions…if they were all fit and able to play,I would pick Liddle, however Farah was picked in the 17 and then dropped suddenly,Why would that be,many on here complained that his service was ordinary for us,but at SOO time he is the greatest since Ali,I'm completely over him and the years of drama that surrounds him year after year,we won't go forward while he keeps pulling us back. I don't care who plays hooker anymore,we are doing a lot better this year than last and aren't fighting for the wooden spoon as most said we would..and yes he does play better off the bench ,but who got him to play that way? Was it Ayoub or Taylor...but then again I don't CARE anymore....

If we were losing Farah to satisfy a class Coach, there could be an argument mounted on the benefit of that,
But Taylor will never be a class Coach.
So we could lose one of the better players in the team , just to placate someone whose probably coaching his last NRL team. And also doing this when we don't have a better replacement in the club, all because Taylor wants a scapegoat to blame for an ordinary stay at the club.and after he wasted a whole season by coaching dull , dumb football.
And the result is that whenever a team really puts it on us We Still Can't Defend.
Isn't it ironic that Farah is one of our best tacklers

100% correct. Taylor knows he has the cattle to have performed a lot better than what we have performed. Maybe he honestly believes what he is stating. He also said that he would fix our defensive structures.

Taylor isn't all bad. He just is a poor coach in relation to game plans and man management. That basically means he is a really dud coach.

Is RF one of the best players at the club - yes. Is he the best hooker - yes.

That is a very intriguing out of left field post there steve…did not expect that at all...

@stevetiger said:

Agree, but he is at best the 4th best play maker in the club behind Brooks, Moses and Taylor. The team does not need 4 play makers.

JT says as much in the press conference.

It's interesting that Taylor recognises that our squad is a good squad and that there is a problem. The problem is that Taylor prefers to blame Robbie rather than his poor game plans which have been the obvious issue for a while.

It's a funny time to do this as well because we seem to now be realising that we need to play positive footy.

There must be more to it because the service provided by Robbie has been a lot better than any other option that we have.

He hasn't even been playing as a playmaker throughout the year. I know Taylor said that but it's spin.

Seriously,
If you think this is just JT spin and he has made the wrong call with this, why don't you do some homework and find out for yourself.
As I previously mentioned, watch some replays of when the team has Farah and doesn't have Farah in the side.
I did it myself last night just to be sure.
Watched the first 20mins of the Melbourne game at Leichhardt and then the first 20mins of the Manly game at Leichhardt. (both full games are available on youtube.)
The proof is in the pudding.
Obvious points I noticed.
- Farah miss times passes to the halves. (this puts brooks and moses under pressure, extremely important when trying to kick for field position.)
- Dene has the forwards rolling up field quicker and more effectievly (the forwards were getting the ball at the advantage line as soon as the ball leaves the ruck, by farah running and engaging the markers this has the reverse effect on our go forward.
- Farah goes against the set play. (Although this sometimes leads to a good play it is counter productive to what Taylor is trying to achieve with getting the halves the confidence to run the team or so kind of a slap in the face to the coach.)
- Defence between Dene and Farah. If you take the time to watch the latest episode of the breakdown by Matt Elliott it features locks and how important they are to the team:
You will notice when he talks about defence he mentions how important it is to meet the player square; by wrapping the player up square accross the chest / shoulders it keeps the ball in check but also allows for a more dominant tackle in the ruck (winning the ruck). He basically explained why pricks like Gallen and Corey Parker get away with lying on players in tackles and players like Kyle Lovett get pinged nearly every time.
Also features ET and how he has contributed to our team in defence and attack.
In regards to defence of our 2 starting hookers, Dene is alot more effective in this, Farah tends to make up alot of his defencive numbers in coming in late to the tackle and tackling over the players infront. Rarely dominates a one on one tackle.

Anyway I would be interested to hear if anyone has opposing views to the above.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding come Sunday. I have noticed a lot of teams now are scoring most of their points wider by using quick shifts. I am not seeing as many trys through the middle or good angle edge running. Teams seem to play a few very quick direct one out plays with quick play the balls and than the rapid shift. I think defences on the whole are pretty strong at defending the middle.

I notice that he dropped him on a week where we play the weakest of the teams above us. It would be a huge disappointment to him if we get smashed. ( certainly not expected) we should beat the Dragons even without the SOO three. So a win this week will prove nothing , however a loss would make him look even more stupid than he already does

I really hope we win but at the same time I think the board/management of the club should be looking to get rid of Taylor now. I think he has proven that he isn't the right man for the job.
