@Cultured Bogan said:Don't be facetious TP. I'm not saying they **_have_** to do it, I would rather see the money spent elsewhere myself (in fact you'll find I've said this numerous times in other threads,) but if they're going to commit to it I will get behind it.
The thing is that the NRL look like that they want to follow the AFL model and play games at centralised stadia. With ANZ, Allianz and a 35-40K Liverpool based stadium you have most of Sydney covered.
@Telltails said:@ricksen said:All joking aside, we do have a massive dormant fan base. We all remember the bandwagon back in 05 and 10/11 - big crowds, merchandise selling through the roof etc. Indeed, even today, Rothfield and co continue to print these provocative stories as they sell papers and get page hits - not every club has that sort of interest.
Getting the lapsed fan back into a financial interest (be it attendance, merch, membership) is exactly what we need to bridge the balance sheet issues we face.
Dont think our fan base is any different to any other Sydney based team. If you look at other forums the diehards are all talking about the same things with their clubs. Player retention, player signings, and the coach. For teams that are under performing like ours the fans are arguing exactly the same issues - who to keep, who to let go who they should buy, and the performance of the coach and CEOS. When Wests Tigers are going well we enjoy great numbers at games its just that we have not been going well for a while and any news associated with the club of late has been mostly bad. All fans are fickle when you are losing, and in terms of attendance the Sydney based teams are certainly more effected by their position on the ladder.

I agree, though I'd argue that we have one of the bigger fan bases of the Sydney clubs, it's just that they are rarely engaged.
As you say, Sydney is one of the most fickle markets in the world, and most 'fans' don't really hop on the bandwagon unless their team is doing well.
We need a period of success to get these people out of the woodwork.

That's true
The diehard fan will always be there
-but how can you expect a parent to pay for a family to go to the footy when they know their team is gonna lose
-are you gonna go out and buy the home jersey/the away jersey /heritage jersey/etc like you would when your team is going great…you don't want all that merchant from a year you didn't even make the 8
-is you're 10 year old kid going to be hassling you to go see a game or get a New Jersey when their team isn't winning or if they aren't sure their favourite tigers player will still be there(Farah, taupau,Lawrence)
How many kids jumped on the Tigers cause benji was their footy hero
I wouldn't call our fans doormats at all...id just say like every other club when your team isn't going great and isn't showing signs of improvement it's harder to get excited and cripples you're desire to go above and beyond in support
Doesn't mean their not riding the lows
The Wests Tigers need to give the fans something to cheer for, anything really.

@ricksen said:FTR, I said the fan base was dormant - not doormats. Bit of a difference.
@GNR4LIFE said:I don't get why 8 teams is considered too many in Sydney. Why? There are 9 Melbourne teams in the AFL.

Very hard to engage a fan base when u turn up 4 times a year and expect people to convert to the 'local' team.

- 1 Home Ground will be our future and although he didn't say it directly you can be sure it will be ANZ
- Robbie's contract will be honoured as they have said all along and he will be eligible for selection in FG as any player would but no contract guarantees selection in any grade.
- Whole organisation supports JT and working to ensure all nessecary rescources are in place
- Taupau - No word from his management that he wants out for 2016
- Salary cap is now in a good position for 2016
- Wests Tigers are currently one of the top 6 or 7 clubs financially in the game. What I took from this by the way he said it is that if you look at just how the club does on a profit and loss point of view as opposed to money in from outside sources over and above.
- We are aiming and heading to not need money from our shareholders for running the club on a yearly basis but that then money can be used for longer term investment
My radio cut in and out a bit but thats what i picked up so all good news.
Also I must say he was very impressive and sounded like we have made a very astute selection as CEO

It all sounds good to me. I reckon the salary cap is fine. I reckon that is another line that we have been fed this year.

Chuck in our highest paid player into reserve grade. That'll make the club look even more embarrasing in this whole soap opera. All other points are good to hear, but you'd expect to hear that really. Although surprised about the cap situation, sounds like we were fed either alot of BS or we actually have finally stopped paying players we shouldn't and are more financially stable.
