I was asked by an old friend the other day if I still follow the Tigers now that they are having so much drama within the club…I said to him that I have been a Tigers supporter all my life, even to the point of having an interest in the AFL team Richmond Tigers.. I told him we are in a unique situation where we are a team consisting a merger of two fantastic foundation clubs,Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers, from the outset many, many people have said it won't work, referring to the Northern Eagles debacle for one..In the end without going through history and recent drama,I told him that when you pick a team to support you stick with that club through thick and thin,no matter what pain and heartache we go through..We having been going through some pain in the last few seasons, however the good times will come again...am I excited waiting for the season 2016 to start...Hell yeah, new players, strong competition for spots, waiting to see how JT constructs his game plans and to see how Aaron Woods leads the team...what's not to get excited about..if the team finishes 16th or 6th,I will still be a diehard Wests Tigers supporter and huge fan.....I certainly hope many people have my enthusiasm ..Tigers forever...

TT I've been asked the same question so I throw one back and let them know I've renewed my membership, got some strange looks.

Yep new year, new expectations, new attitude.
This is the best part of any season lol…

Can Tigers change their stripes? Can Magpies change their tune?

Yes Byron I am sure they can. I was a Newtown supporter for twenty years until they were sacked from first grade. I then put my full allegiance with Balmain which lasted until they join with Magpies to form Wests Tigers. My support for Wests Tigers is now just as stronger, if not stronger than the support I had following Newtown.

Newtown, a bloke I work with is still a Newtown supporter and goes to games at Henson as well, he was saying they still sell KB in the beer tent, didn't think KB still existed. I remember of few Newtown diehards having a run in the Group 6 comp once they finished playing grade, Ron Foggerty and Col Casey.

Then he hasnt been for a while cunno because they stopped selling it 2 years ago sadly for those of us on the hill

Hi Cunno, I went to school at Newtown Brothers with both Ron Fogarty and Col Casey. Ron who played centre/wing was in my class while Col who played prop was in the year below. I can remember the beer tent on the Henson Park hill but I'm not sure about the KB. The Henson Hill entrance is located very close to the local hotel which probably still serves KB. These days it is still a great atmosphere, albeit with a smaller crowd, whenever the Jets play at Henson.

I went to the pub with a sometimes Dragons supporter mate to watch the round 26 match last season. He lost interest and wanted to leave when the Dragons were up 30-8 about 15 minutes into the second half.
I had to admit that the WT performance had not been particularly inspiring but I said the Tigers can come back from here I'm going to watch it to the end. He stayed and was amazed by the comeback.
That's why I'm a WT supporter, near misses and all.

Do you still follow/support Newtown… There is nothing wrong with having a couple of teams.

I still put my Easts Tigers before Wests Tigers, but that doesnt mean I'm any less a supporter.

RL needs support at all levels!

I still support Newtown and regularly attend their games at Henson Park. However Newtown have not had a first grade team since 1983 so I am a Wests Tigers supporter as far as first grade is concerned.

I was so disappointed in balmains constant losing as a kid that I changed my allegiance to Newtown. Then, the following week I went to watch a Tigers/Jets game. Newtown won easily and Ken Wilson kicked em from everywhere. I felt so bad for the tigers I went for them again. Pretty much been a similar story most years since come to think of it. :roll

I'm glad you've stuck with the Tigers WD. They will surprise many this season and continue on with it..

I'll always stick with the Tigers, while ever I am interested enough in NRL. Channel 9 extension of contract for free-to-air is a negative. Rabbits Warren needs a good dose of myxomatosis, in my view.

Whether I am interested enough to renew multiple WT memberships for 2016? …. well that's a different consideration altogether. I haven't done it yet and have forfeited previously allocated seats at venues as a result.

It's not because I have lost interest in NRL, but it is an indication that, in my opinion, there is a prevailing feeling of unease about the quality of the leadership and management of the club from the Board to the Coach and beyond.

Nothing's happened yet to convince me to pay up for 2016\. But my love for the Tigers will remain forever. I live in hope....and faith.

I'm very excited for the season to start TT …Can't wait to see our boys come out to play.

like 99% of most forum members on this site I will always stick with my Wests Tigers.

I was a Western Suburbs supporter since 1977 when all my friends supported the pretty boys at the time Parramatta. I loved the underdog and Tommy and Dallas Donnelly.

I must admit I did give up on Western Suburbs as they were close to going the same way as Newtown plus being thrashed every week in the 80's was hard for a young boy to take.

I changed to Canberra Raiders when they joined the comp and until Wests Tigers formed I was a Canberra Raiders fan since 1986 to 1999\. Big fan of Daley, Stuart, Clyde, Big M, Brick with eyes, etc (just loved their attacking style that provided such entertainment).

I honestly think WT will have an improved season and look forward to seeing Sue and Ava continue to improve, Sirro to have a break through season and one or two juniors making the grade sometime in 2016\. Grant adds to our pack and at a good age for a prop.

Love to see Brooks and Moses take more control of the game and play their natural attacking game.

Our backs if they can stay injury free have some pace about them and Teddy is a Superstar.

Bring on 2016.
