Keeping our top players

If our blokes don't show some loyalty I will be disappointed. They already know we have paid them overs waiting for them to develop. I don't think our core will go anywhere until they get the job done. But that's just my thinking, other factors are more important than money…are they happy...are they learning and improving and being nurtured. Is the club moving forward?

I wonder how taupau is feeling today? He will be under massive pressure of manly doesn't turn its form around and in my opinion they didn't buy well. Dce overrated, Matai and Lyon, Stewart gone, walker not a 5/8, myles was gone at the Titans plus they lose him over origin and he plods after that. Only thing they got right is offloading Glenn Stewart, watmough, Foran.

Manly and parra lists are a dogs breakfast with no real strategy or succession. I much rather our list because 9/10th's of our list is improving.

I want you to be right, but I'm going to reserve my judgement until later in the season.

Don't want to turn this into a Farah bash but he took advantage of the club at a time of vulnerability and got the coach sacked so he could re-sign at big money for 4yrs…..I would not have done that to a club I love

I dont see too much problem with letting go of players as its simply a matter of how the NRL System works.

Some clubs are better than others at keeping alot of top players, while other clubs will heavily invest in 3-4 top players and give them the tools/stock to work around them.

Our problem is we dont seem to have a strategic plan moving forward and this is heavily a result of switching coaches, management and money concerns. The bar is constantly moving at WT and we need to change this before anything will change.

Once we gain stability in the front office, I can see this improving. In the mean time, if Teddy goes, so be it. The same goes for Woods; Moses; Simona etc… One thing is for certain. we are not in a position to pay overs until we have a clear strategic plan moving forward.

I really hope our spine not only re-sign but also stay with us long term with the aim of building a Tigers dynasty for the next 10-15 years!

Is that too much to ask?

If the figures they are offered are within $10-15 k apart for the Top 3-4 they will probably stay

But when clubs start making marquee style offers to non marquee WT's players they are probably going to leave

The numbers that the Raiders initially offered Tedesco compared to what we offered were crazy

We finally got it down to within around 25-30 k a season difference with some TPA's but it took them close to 9 months to finally sort it out

Well worth it if you ask me!

I did post the actual numbers at the time that Teddy initially decided to leave , probably in the old Tede$co thread

It was ridiculous , but it showed that we had no idea what we were doing , and the Raiders could see the potential he had

Local junior as captain and a locally produced spine - ( not to mention most of the first grade squad) that is what sets us apart from alot of other clubs especially in Sydney, and speaking personally that's what I love best about this club. Means so much more when your best are local juniors - granted its been a long time coming but if they do produce, well worth the wait - for me anyway. If I wanted to follow a chequebook champion team would have jumped ship a longggggg time ago. Go Wests Tigers.

Let's hope the club learnt from that & make a fair offer our talented kids can't refuse.

Love to see them both extend for at least three years, but it has to be remembered every dollar we pay them over what we planned is coming out of another players pocket,of course unless we can get a couple of healthy TPA'S.

You would think it is in the NRL,Fox and Nine interest to have a very competive home grown team in the South West of Sydney

Yes what a great endorsement for the game - coming purely through bias eyes. Some compensation for developing talent surely its time.

I don't have the confidence of some about holding onto all these young fellas.

The only reason I can give is TPAs

TPAs are the way to go as a few people here have said. We should approach our major sponsor Best Buy Autos – which player in their right mind would pass up the chance of a well kept 5 year old Camry?

They will all resign at reasonable money….they are not like farah

Lol,
if they don't get the maximum that they can, then they're fools.
Clubs show exactly zero loyalty if and when they have no more use for a player.
And I mean ALL clubs. We've all seen that.
This is professional sport, and they only have a short span when they hold the whip hand, and if they have someone good looking after them, they'll be set for life
Farah and most professionals in sport have to look after their futures, as clubs generally won't , And to denigrate any professional sports persons for that is nieve.
Maybe some may take a bit less to stay at a club, but if A decent offer comes. They can't be blamed for going.
As a supporter I don't like that any more than you do. But I certainly agree with the players securing themselves, and their families future, whoever they are.

Rubbish!

What about the poor coach and his future and the welfare of his family. He told the Board 2yrs and farah's men got him sacked because he wanted 4yrs and the bloke that got sacked got it right now we are left paying marquee money to an ageing hooker who no-one else wants for any money.

We should be moving on but let's not sugar coat what happened. If we lose one of the young guys who could win us a premiership you will be blaming Taylor…it's not his fault, it's because Farah is getting all the $$$$$

Is this a factual comment ? I honestly don't think that it is.

I agree it seems we paid too much for Robbie but that isn't clear cut. Maybe Robbie will kill them this season and the next. Do you have confirmation that Robbie had Potter sacked ?

Sad reality is you cant keep all top players, sometimes it amazes me when i see a lot of big names in the one team.. Scratch my head and wonder how they fit in the salary cap..

Look at parra for 2016
There is talent out there, we might lose some, we might gain some.
What is important in my opinion is what they can achieve for us as a club.

What i dislike most about player transfers is the lack of honesty from some.
You hear a lot of denial about contracts followed by shocking outcomes.

Just be honest and upfront if you are looking to leave.

Ok guys we've heard you. and I'm not saying your wrong, but just give it a rest and enjoy the win. We've just a good win against the odds. Try and keep positive, at least till round 3 or so.
