It did , reckon it was the worst missed tackle I ever had , totally misjudged him , was in a no virtual no win situation 3 on 1 , the bloke on his outside was the state age 100 metre champion and he seemed to be falling for my trap of going for the corner which turned it into a 1 on 1 ,tried to hit him under his palm and the shoulder / ribs to try and tie up the ball as well but misjudged his speed …... and I ended coming off him like a spinning top

Mate there would of been close to a 20 kg and 5 inch height difference and I had a flat top , I could of been an albino frozone

To be honest it was a pretty ordinary few days , we were at the pre carnival BBQ at Bremer State High School and the old man raced in and grabbed me as my Grandpa had a massive heart attack

We raced from Ipswich to Oakey in 55 minutes (fastest I've ever been in a motor vehicle ever) only for him to pass away early the next morning He and my Grandmother were just getting ready to drive down to Ipswich early the next day to watch me play

I reckon I scored of the best tries I had ever scored that night

While all this was going on a certain blonde hair little so and so by the name of Teevan was attempting to put the hard word on my girlfriend Apart from hearing it from her the next evening from her , the two guys billeted to stay with us from the Darling Downs had warned him off as well

We were drawn to play Teevan's Darling Downs team if they beat Egans team,
they lost

Didn't matter , no one were going to beat the Brisbane South region side especially with a forward pack containing Andrew Gee ,Tony Hearn , Alan Cann , Michael Searle and Brett Horsnell

And the Qld side they picked from that year was the first to beat NSW at Open schoolboys football

I'm loving Happy's old footy stories, keep them up. They are gold.
I had no idea who Egan was until this thread so thanks for all the info.

Wests Tigers appoint Des Hasler's right-hand man, Kelly Egan, as football boss
It is a signing Wests Tigers hope will lead to a slew of player re-signings. Kelly Egan, Des Hasler's right-hand man for almost a decade, will join the joint-venture outfit as its new general manager of football.

Egan is making the transition from the coaching ranks and back into football administration at a critical time for the club. After successful stints as an assistant to Hasler at Manly and Canterbury, Egan joins the Tigers with a view to keeping together the nucleus of a side featuring off-contract superstars James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses, Aaron Woods and Luke Brooks.

"That will be at the top end of the inbox," Egan said in his first interview since signing with the Tigers.

"Those players are a high-priority to get re-signed. Equally, it's important we retain as much talent as the head coach, CEO and myself want to move forward with.

"They are an entertaining side and a young side, which provides an opportunity to create a bit of a legacy within the club. It's an exciting opportunity for them. It would be wonderful to keep those players together. That's the goal of the club and hopefully the players we're talking about – and the others coming off contract – believe in that concept and want to live those values.

"That perpetuates the Balmain and Wests tradition going forward."
Egan's appointment continues a varied career in rugby league. He played for North Sydney, although his Bears stint didn't quite coincide with that of the man he'll be working closely with, Tigers coach Jason Taylor. He was the football manager at the Cowboys, where he was also an assistant coach, but is best known for his work alongside Hasler.

One of their first interactions was during his time coaching Wynnum Manly in the Queensland Cup. The Sea Eagles were after a centre and Egan tipped him into a raw-boned lad by the name of Steve Matai. Not long afterwards, they were in the same coach's box, overseeing premierships at Manly. When Hasler shifted from Brookvale to Belmore, he took Egan with him.

"I couldn't give Des a bigger compliment; he's been a great mentor, he's given me a massive education, not only in coaching the game of rugby league but in performance management and organisational process," said Egan, who replaces Mark O'Neill.

"I can't thank him enough. I consider him a friend and when I sat down with him [on Thursday to tell him I was leaving] it was a tough conversation to have, given we've been together for about nine years. He was very understanding with what I was doing and where I was going. For that, I thank him."

In taking up the new role, Egan has put an end to his coaching ambitions. However, he is looking forward to being part of the Tigers brains trust when they take on the Bulldogs next year.

"I think I'll stay away from the coach's box, I might stay down on the sidelines," Egan quipped.

"That will be great, I'm looking forward to that. It happens when players change clubs, you transition from one place to another and it's always a good time. It's always fun the first time you come up against the old club."

Canterbury poached long-time Tigers recruiter Warren McDonnell. Now a Bulldog has gone the other way. Egan, who has management experience with TAFE Queensland and gaming machine manufacturer Aristocrat, believes he is joining the Tigers at an opportune time.

"The exciting part for me is it seems to be moving in the right direction with its governance structure, leadership structure and they're building towards something that looks pretty good for the next few years," he said.

"It's a varied role and an exciting one, too."

Geez, Alan Cann wouldve of been young playing in that forward pack… Craig hit on everyones girlfriends from primary school until he was probably 30\. He and his drinking buddy Johnny Plath couldnt help themselves!

In the silly-season and with our cricket team pretty much rubbish, it is amazing that this topic has got to 3 pages on here. I can't for a minute think that when the Tigers make their victory speech in 2017 that the name Kelly Egan will be mentioned.

No Geo it was more the fact that I just said my last good byes less than 18 hours earlier to the person who had inspired my love of sport with stories of watching 1948 Invincibles score 750 in a day ( he was at the game in England ) ,stories of Sir Stan , Hutton, Miller , Lindwall , Jack Iverson , his support of West Ham etc and I scored a try where I had to do 3-4 things without thinking twice with my very first touch having not slept for a few days and while I was in no mental state to be playing a game of football with all his sons in attendance and hopefully him looking down on me …....

With the Dogs shedding so many of the staff that Hasler had hired maybe Egan could influence him to come to the Tigers if the Dogs decide that they want another head coach. I know signing Hasler has been discussed in another thread already but maybe Egan can sway Hasler similar to that of Pascoe swaying Idris.
