Kidwell To Be Coach Effective Immediately

According to the Telegraph Mick Potter will be sacked after tomorrow's game, chance it will be effective immediately.

I'll be telling the club where to shove it should this happen. Gutless wonders the board if they punt him.

If this is true and we end up missing the finals I would be holding the board responsible.
Fuming after reading this, hopefully its just another rubbish article from a rubbish paper.

If Mick isnt the right choice and those in the club would know better than any if us, then Im glad the club is being decisive.

Decisive decision making is sometimes needed.

Given we havent performed that badly I would assume such a decision would mean a large disconnect between the coach and the playing group. A coach needs the support of the dressing room.

Time’s up as Wests Tigers decide to axe coach Mick Potter and punt on David Kidwell

WESTS Tigers are expected to sack embattled coach Michael Potter after Sunday’s game against the Dragons — irrespective of the result.

The Sunday Telegraph understands Potter does not have the support at board level to retain his job or obtain an extension.

Despite solid results this season, the playing group is not supporting Potter, believing he struggles to communicate his ideas to the team.

The club has arranged for a special board meeting on Saturday to resolve the issue of Potter’s future, which has been uncertain for months.

It is understood the recommendation before the board is that Potter be dumped.

It is unsure whether his axing will be immediate or at the end of the season.

His job is expected to go to one of his assistant coaches, Todd Payten or David Kidwell, with Kidwell the favourite.

Senior players did not throw their full support behind Potter — a fact that came to light in veteran coach Brian Smith’s internal review of the club conducted recently.

Smith’s report is believed to have contained statements from players and officials critical of Potter’s communication skills.

Privately, the board want the matter resolved before the possibility of Potter embarrassing the club by making the semi-finals.

Potter was appointed as the Tigers’ head coach after the sacking of veteran Tim Sheens at the end of 2012.

Sheens led the Tigers to the 2005 premiership in a famous victory but he, too, lost the support of key players at the club.

Ironically, Potter came within a whisker of being sacked at the end of last season.

But the club decided it could not afford to pay out two head coaches — Potter and Sheens — and he survived the axe.

The Tigers had a strong start to this season before hitting the wall, but then bounced back with a superb 46-18 thumping of the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium last Sunday.

If they beat the Dragons today, there is a good chance they will go on and make the finals after finishing 10th and 15th in the last two seasons.

The club has one of the best rosters in the NRL with NSW State of Origin representatives Robbie Farah and Aaron Woods backed by outstanding youngsters like Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses, Curtis Sironen, David Nofoaluma and Blake Austin.

Officials are keen to get a coach in place who can develop these rising stars and turn the Tigers into one of the NRL’s strongest clubs.

Farah stated in the interview today that players had NO input in the review ….well this seems at odds with what has been stated in the paper. There is going to be a massive fallout if this does happen.

Weve performed so poorly for years on end in the past and nothings been done….same ol same ol year after year.

Now this?

I dont get it....if they shaft Potter they deserve to have nothing positive...Im lost for words

I agree with Southerntiger.

We have no idea who does what internally.

If the review was a comprehensive investigation into our coaching structure, then the move might be good.
Time will tell

I am calling the club first thing Monday morning to complain….this is a disgrace

Better idea , ring Dean Ritchie and tell him that if this story is BS the entire Tigers nation wants his arse on a platter

uh oh

potter certainly doesnt deserve this. if true, i hope he find a job elsewhere and does a good job. feel sorry for mick, if true.

Girls, girls settle down!
If what he is stating is true, and the officials and players say he can't communicate well and game plays.
Then it is time to go.
How do u guys on here say no player is bigger than the club, then no coach is either!
Get over it, the side is playing good inspite of potter, not because of potter.
You guys have no idea, the club has known about this for some time. That's why they wanted to sack him last year.
I would be surprised if he lasted the year…..

Hope its bs but dont think so….my media source reckons Farah is causing the trouble. But he also said that Potter's contract would be extended.

Embarass the board of we make the eight? They are doing a good job embarassing themselves.

What i want to know is if we win tomorrow and are back in the 8, 6 weeks out from the finals in a season id say 90% of supporters thought we'd struggle big time, and all the injuries, what justifiable reason do they have to punt him. A lot of times i think supporters over step the bounds in regards to what they think they are entitled to, but in this situation i'd demand answers from this spineless board. The inmates run the asylum if this happens. Absolutely disgusting.

I've had to swallow a lot of shit from this club for a long time. But like a good fan I do it and the following season I am first to renew my membership, buy a couple of jerseys and tell the haters that this year is our year.
\
\
If this is the case I'm out. I'm not one to say that lightly but I'm really done with this club. I've been flirting with other codes and this would push me to throw my support away from wests tigers.

If it's a beat up article, well, some type of legal action should be taken.

Potter has been a breath of fresh air. In bits, I have seen wests play a type of footy that wins comps. Something we haven't seen in a long time. If players don't like it then bye bye players, plenty of kids willing to step up.

Are you [This word has been automatically removed]ing kidding me! If this is true then I'm sorry but what? A bloke comes in with a team lacking direction, stability and Benji not even wanting to be there. Were we expecting to win the comp!!!! But Mick stood up this year, and besides a million injuries, a million bullshit articles about himself and origin, we are one win outside the top 4, and have destroyed some of the best teams in the comp. Mick deserves this year and next year.
