Kidwell to split from Tigers

Whoever it is that is brought in by Taylor, we can be sure it will not be a big name. He refuses to have anyone there that may be a threat, so we can rule out anyone of note.

Do you really believe that?
Or do you think there may be another factor in it namely we seem to have only shopped at go-lo for coaching staff since the days of Sheens.
We should remember this will be a two way Street and whoever comes has to want to come… Being able to get the best, or being able to get whoever left?
It's funny when you think defense coaches.... I think back to kidwells playing days and he was a pretty fair defender. However individual technique and translating defensive technique to a squad aren't necessarily mutual things I guess.

Who is Melbourne's defense coach? Canberra's? Cronulla?
They're not high profile positions... But they're very important

Defensive coach = 80% attitude (cant be coached); 10% Technique =(defensive coach); 10% application

So, he was assistant coach with our NYC, head coach at Parra's NYC, back to us, assistant first grade at Warriors, then back to us. Seems to be on the way up.

I hope.he doesn't uee tonight in his resume elsewhere

 His whole tenure with us has been crap. We haven't been a good defensive unit since Folkes left! Honestly, I think Kidwell should think about a career change - a decent player doesn't necessarily make a decent coach.

Hard to disagree with that. We have always been able to get up for A big effortfor as long as I can remember,
Sheens was able to get some good defence days out of the team. But it was usually after getting a hiding from someone.
Our main problem was and is , that we can't seem to be able to be anywhere consistent in defence, we always fall Back to missing tackles( or not even going for them), arm grabbing , or just plain being soft as in the Panthers game
It ain't something new!

Good big sides will always test our defence. We can defend teams like the Storm, but always struggle against the big sides who have the ability to offload. It has not changed in years, not sure how we can get better without going and buying some quality defenders. I fail to see how a new defensive coach is going to teach players how to defend and make good reads who have been struggling for a few years. Probably being a bit to negative, but our defence has struggled for years and we have had any number of new coaches in that time

Agree.

This is why I would not be signing Brooks for anything over 500K.

Whilst he is flashy he is a poor defender and I don't see that changing.

We need to invest some money in our aggression and our defence.

Not many people thought Moses defence would change so dramatically

Anybody got any info on a good defensive coach, or any rumours about who will be defensive coach next year.

Our defence hasn't worked consistently for some time. So the defensive coach has to go.

And it's not much better now. We won yesterday by 12 but conceded 24\. I don't recall many games were we have held a team to one or two tries.

Is Webster the previous NYC coach? And is defence a big part of the nyc comp?

I heard a couple of weeks ago that Taylor was pushing Stringer up to the NRL squad, so it seems like he's been overruled by O'Neill.

Webster is a fantastic appointment if that is true. He is a great young coach, he's a former player at Balmain & coach at Balmain & WT, so is essentially one of our own.

Knows the club, knows the players (won SG Ball comp with Moses & Brooks). I would be very happy to see him coaching our first grade in the near future.

Couldn't agree more, would be a great appointment
