Manly prop Brent Kite is desperate to remain part of the Sea Eagles' future despite behind-the-scenes moves to shift him to Wests Tigers.

The 31-year-old has a year to run on his contract but may be offloaded to ease Manly's salary cap pressures.

Reeling from the loss of Chris Heighington and Beau Ryan to Cronulla, the Tigers are keen to add Kite to their roster for 2013.

But if Kite has his way, he'll be staying put on the northern beaches.

"I'd hope not," he told Sportal when asked if he was being forced out of the club.

"I've got a contract here and I'd love to fulfil that. I am planning on being here next year.

"It's a little bit strange (rumours of his departure) but there's always going to be a bit of speculation.

"There's no secret that we're under a bit of (salary cap) pressure at Manly so a few blokes have to maybe move on, but hopefully it's not me.

"I'd love to stay here. We've built something special and had some success so I'm looking forward to having a bit more yet."

Manly coach Geoff Toovey has been non-committal over Kite's future but an announcement is expected as soon as the club's season is over.

Kite's arrival at Manly in 2005 coincided with the start of the club's run of eight straight finals appearances.

He played in the 2008 and 2011 grand final victories and plans to add at least one more title to his collection.

The Sea Eagles will play in their fourth decider in six years if they overcome Melbourne in Friday night's preliminary final at AAMI Park.

Kite said: "There's still potential in this team to go on and get another premiership.

"We've managed to stay together. We haven't lost too many key players and when we have we've been able to get someone else into the job to do a similar role.

"It would be good to go out with another one or two."

That is one of Sheens problems he would rather buy a 32 year old then give our Juniors a go, he is pathetic. I don't even want kite here.

i agree sheens needs to do all of us a favour and leave…kite waste of money

Nothing story. 2 days out from a preliminary final, he's hardly going to say that he's looking forward to playing elsewhere next yr, especially when that club hasn't announced anything official

I'd take a 33 yr old Kite, or however old he is, over Matt Groat.Hell, I'd take Mark Tookey over Groat

Moeese Fotuiaki and Kyle Lovett

I've always regarded him as dead ordinary - carries the ball up, gets tackled, very little chance of an offload, no skills re backing up…. He'd want to be very cheap. And be prepared to warm the bench at best.

Great! We're losing players who are the heart and soul of the club and now we might end up signing a bloke who doesn't even want to be here. Good stuff! :unamused:

Hope so GNR, cause I wouldn't mind him coming here if he was actually looking forward to it. You have to wonder why they make such bold statements to the contrary though if they are, in fact, leaving. Makes them look like real dicks when they do that.

I think Kite could be very good, plays hard and direct and plugs the middle ground. Teams like the Chooks have a day out charging up the middle–thats why we need players like Kite and Sheens for all his faults knows it to

So Kite has no interest in coming here at all?? Then why the hell are we interested. If he has no interest….,move on Tigers!

Seeing how he's clearly been asked, he's hardly going to say he wants to leave or is looking forward to next yr with another club who hasn't made his signing official. He's not going to come out and talk about the prospect of being with another club next yr, this week of all weeks. Don't think his team-mates would appreciate him coming out and talking about another club next yr either. He's just taking care of business. I know we wouldn't like it if say Gibbs last yr going into the Warriors final was talking about the Sharks. Don't worry mate, its a non issue

I know a manly member nd he has already signed done and dusted tigers for 2 yrs

Some of you people will just twist anything to suit your tigers are in crisis , sheens is a nut case vendetta -it's getting old. Of course kite is not going to say he is looking forward to leaving a couple of days out froma final and after 10 yrs. that doesent mean he isn't coming and that he won't do a fantastic job for us next couple of yrs while our junior props mature. Kite will be a great signing and will bring much more to the club then some of the p,ayers going

How many games have you seen either of them play?

Hell, you can't even spell Fotuaika's name right

Is that because you have seen Kite in a Tigers jersey?
