Klein Ruined the Game

Was just looking through the Broncos forum, and when you've got leaders of their forum, along with a bunch of other guys saying they got lucky and that it was a bad call, you know that it must have been an absolutely horrible call.

Klein is incredibly brave and incredibly foolish to have made that call. It just makes no sense in the context of the game. That’s a career killing decision.

He will get defended and promoted. Has been a bog average ref since he got here from England. It is a slap in the face for junior referees that we import poor performers like this clown rather than offer opportunities.

Gotta love Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashley_Klein

Ashley Klein (born 6 September 1979[citation needed]) is an Australian rugby league referee, best known for his role as Brisbane Broncos man of the match.

Klein arrived in England as a youngster and refereed his first few games in the Rugby League Conference travelling up from London.[citation needed]

In the context of the game, and in comparison to other plays that weren't called, that wasn't a penalty. Ex-refs, commentators, spectators seem to agree.

The sad fact is the NRL needs certain teams to do well and I don't want to accept this but I believe this adds to the unconscious bias of refs. That or they know exactly what they're doing and need to be investigated.

It made me feel ill but I also feel we may have picked up a few fans because of that result. We love underdogs especially when we see they've been hard done by. Might end up helping us in the long run…

The benchmark I use in these cases is would we have got 18 penalties and a sin bin against Melbourne all things being equal…..No.

Would we have got the penalty on last just before fulltime that equalled the score and the game winning penalty......No

And we were on top both games so it's not as if " penalties go with momentum".

So it's a rort.

Boy those referees sure have it in for new boys on the block.
Just one lousy down the field penalty last night and we would have won it last night.

I have no problems no matter how many penalties are blown, if it means we will clean up the mess that this game has became.
I also dont agree that we shouldn't have copped that last penalty.

Both markers were'nt straight in front of the ball carrier. not even close to it

But why wasnt the same thing penalised right through the game, why do it in the last couple of minutes, and no where else?????? When its continually happening throughout the game.

Why does no referee look at the metres that Darius Boyd fudges frequently as he plays the ball ???
I know a lot do it , but Darius must almost do a hamstring from striding so long.
Theres still no consistency in the game.

However,I dont think that the Refs are dodgy, just borderline incompetent

Wests Tigers controversy: Referees boss Bernie Sutton says Ashley Klein, Matt Noyen got penalty wrong

Wests Tigers lose 9-7 to Brisbane in controversial circumstances
Benji Marshall rushed for scans after suffering an ankle injury
REFEREES boss Bernie Sutton has admitted Wests Tigers were wrongly penalised during their golden-point thriller loss to Brisbane last night.

Sutton has told the Sunday Telegraph that Tigers backrower Robbie Rochow should not have been penalised which gifted the Broncos an easy penalty goal conversion to win 9-7 at Campbelltown Stadium last night.

“Ultimately the penalty is incorrect,” Sutton said.

Sutton said the way Broncos forward Joe Ofahengaue had played the ball contributed to Rochow being ruled to not have stood square by referee Ashley Klein. Klein and Matt Noyen conferred before the crucial penalty was awarded.

“There are a couple of factors which contribute to what happened,” Sutton said. “Ofahengaue plays the ball on a slight angle which is partly caused by Rochow.

“He moves forward and to the left to play the ball which accentuates Rochow (appearing to be off-side).

“Rochow doesn’t start square but he does adjust well.

“Both referees communicated through the process quite well. They both have some ownership around that decision. Ultimately it’s Ash who blows the whistle.

“I’ve spoken to both our guys last night and checked with them this morning.”

Sutton reached out to Tigers coach Ivan Cleary this morning.

What the point of reaching out to Cleary?

The points are gone.

if I were Ivan I wouldn't pick up the phone.

Hope Ivan told him where to go. If a referee has made an incorrect decision that has cost a side 2 points, he should be in ISP for the next month. That is accountability, not a media statement,

The NRL is rigged for marketing purposes. Brisbane & Melbourne cannot go more than a year without playing finals football. If I was the warriors I would be dirty that the referees do not do as much to carry them home.

Last week was no different. The referees did everything in their power to get Melbourne home.

Like calling back a potential game winning try for a forward pass?

Seriously, this idea that the comp is rigged needs alot of cherry picking. If it was rigged, Broncos would have got the Jack Bird try awarded. Did they?

you're right, it's not rigged.

the thing is teams like broncos, roosters and storm are never on the wrong side of match deciding calls.
it's coz they're expected to win each game.
the refs have it in their head who's gonna win the game and until this bias is out- small teams will keep sufferring.

horrible call, but something smaller teams will never benefit from, it will always go against them.

I couldn't even comment last night or my post would have been deleted. What a joke Ashley Klein has made of refereeing and the NRL. Hopefully Greenberg tears strips off the idiot.
Fortunately we have Ivan Cleary as coach who can rationalise the BS loss to the players. They must be devastated after the guts and determination they showed.

Nah the games are not rigged. Let’s look at the facts:
Most clubs are sponsored by betting agencies
Players caught betting on games
Player caught betting against his own team
Player caught diving to give away certain penalty to lose.
Players fraudulently selling signed jerseys
Players using performance enhancing drugs
Clubs guilty of salary cap rorting
Players friendly with SP bookies
Players associating with organised crime figures.
Players guilty of serious crimes allowed back to play
Women bashers playing in the Womens round
Etc etc

Nope, games is snow white clean

Speaking to friends and others, who do not follow Wests and they all said that the decision and result were a disgrace and it bought the game into disrepute. Hard to disagree.

I don't know 100% if i heard it right but Pangia got taken off for concussion rule, free interchange i think. He comes back to bench with a bag of ice wrapped around his leg. We all talk about the rorters and cheating salary caps but are they even more rorting in games as they are played. I will watch recorded game but I'm sure i heard it.

Did anyone else hear Bernard Sutton on MMM this afternoon? Dodged every question with “we will sit down and review on Monday “. Man, I thought Archer was a tool, this bloke’s the whole tool belt!! I had no confidence in our officials yesterday, after listening to this dud I have even less today!!!!
Also - to all touchies: you have one friggen job and that’s to stick your flag up when someone goes out. Not friggen rocket science!
