They're playing a better team, on paper... arguably.

Gardiner is just as tough as Madge if not tougher from what I've heard.... the reserve grade boys aren't entitled princess first graders is the difference

The issue with Madge isn’t the toughness. It’s his inability to communicate effectively with players as well as his lack of tactical competency for the modern game.

Perhaps you can be tough but communicate well and have good player management skills.
