Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Team List: Round 12

Wests blew St George away with 4 tries in 15 mins after halftime. But outside of that, it was a pretty middling performance.

Running into a strong breeze in the first half, they gave away countless six agains + penalties and turned over cheap ball.

Wests came out a different team in the second half. Utoikamanu put them on the front foot with some barnstorming runs - he's far too good for this level. Freebairn was cutting them up through the middle and Hoffman out wide. Fitzgibbon finished well, and also took some dirty hit ups when he were struggling in the first half and put on at least one massive hit. He's come along so far since the start of the season.

St George didn't look like troubling the scorers after halftime even with Walters in the bin, but disappointing that Wests didn't lay on some more tries.

Thanks madge been very interested in this side and watch when i can in the glorious state of WA. Can you believe I moved here in July 05. Flight prices doubled and I didn't have a ticket for the GF. So no go. Thanks to a great footy club over here North Beach I got to watch live and it was a great night living in a AFL only state but we are here more then most people think. I would love for the Tigers to bring a home game here. All will be surprised about how many we have.

Just watched the highlights and admittedly thats all i saw but Hoffman and Freebairn heavily involved in our tries. I know many dont but i see Hoffman having lots of potential given his youth

Match: Magpies v Dragons
ROUND 12 - SATURDAY 29TH MAY

Venue:Lidcombe Oval, Sydney

Magpies overcome early scare to make it nine on the trot

Hannah McGrory

The Western Suburbs Magpies have made it nine wins in a row to maintain second position on the ladder in The Knock-on Effect NSW Cup, after a determined 26-18 over St George Illawarra Dragons at Lidcombe Oval.

The match marked the return of St George Illawarra forward Jack De Belin but despite a strong start from the Dragons they were unable to maintain the momentum with the Magpies scoring the final two tries of the match to secure the win.

“Boys are buzzing with nine wins in a row, we have a winning culture here at the moment that we are building,” Magpies hooker Jake Simpkins told NSWRL.com post-match.

“We were deprived of the ball a little bit in the first half, we knew we just needed to get our defence right and we would be able to put some more points. “Defence is a massive part of the game, we were roaring in the second half and worked hard for each other. “We said it would turn around, the wind can be a strong factor. We would get our chance, just had to hang in there.”

The Dragons were the first to score through fullback Tyrell Sloan, who scored out wide on the back of a great run. Siti Moceidreke hit the upright with the conversion before the the ball went over for a 6-0 lead.
The visitors went over again after a terrific pass for winger James Schiller on the left hand side of the field but conversion was waved away.

In the 13th minute De Belin returned to the field, with a loud cheer from the crowd supporting him as he ran on and the Magpies suffered a setback at the same time with fullback Zac Cini being assisted from the field with a right ankle injury.

Dragons halfback Adam Clune was in next for the Dragons after chasing a bouncing kick in goal before scoring the four pointer. Moceidreke successfully converted the try to extend their lead 16-nil.

In the 28th minute Austin Dias barged his way over for the Magpies to score their first points of the game. The conversion was successful.

A penalty goal on the buzzer from the Dragons allowed them to go in the sheds in control at 18-6 at half-time.

The Magpies came out strong in the second half, with Fitzgibbon scoring the first points of the second half before the conversion was waved away. Magpies halfback Jock Madden was next in to score for the home side, converting his own try before a flying Fitzgibbon was in for his second of the day to help the home team to a lead for the first time that afternoon at 20-18. They continued to dominate through the field as Tom Freebairn was next in after a great run, and successful conversion to extend the lead 26-18 and cap a memorable comeback.

The best part of the highlights was Cooper filling in at fullback for Cini cracking it when the Dragons scored...

That and Utoikamanu charging it up the guts before Freebairn’s TRY...

Those highlights are not overly impressive. A lot of extremely poor defence from both sides, rather than outstanding skill.

But you can never tell much from the crap the NSWRL produce. You could seriously get a fan on the sideline do a better job than them.

It's Ref Cam..it's taken in case of judiciary matters and for that it serves it's purpose..It's not to produce highlights ..it basically is a fan on the side line..

But if they tried they could create a whole heap of content. NSWNPL do a great job with a fraction of the resources. NSWRL just don't care about these comps or those who follow them.

So can anyone lighten me on Tom Freebairn at all?

26, with nearly 50 games of KOE..

Does he make first grade ever?

Some of the things I’ve seen him do makes me have mixed emotions on him.

What are peoples thoughts?

Nope. He's a worker, not a star at this level.

Seen a lot of him.
He's a permanent fringe reserve grader.

You know what..I don't think there is anything wrong with that..

From the games I've seen he's more than decent in this grade..gives it a crack every week ...doesn't let the team down..

Think both flegg and cup are at Lidcombe again this Saturday

Edit; yes both are. Cup at 2pm and flegg at 4pm. RMC also at 12pm
