Next year will be very interesting, I know we are going really well in Jersey Flegg and koe cup, not sure hartigan, Gardiner and Madge has got it right atm, cini- why are we playing him at fullback, will never play fullback at nrl level at any club he’s to slow for that position, talau- up until the age of 14 he played second row, got moved to five eight at 14/15 cause his father coached Harold Matt’s at Canterbury, never ever did he show a glimpse of the pace required to played centre or wing in nrl, actually feel sorry for this bloke, our inability to identify what he looks like as a player going forward isn’t helping him. So we sign ken Mamalo, so we are effectively saying Fitzgibbon, cooper, cini, Hoffman, the kid they bought from qld in the centres (who by the way hasn’t shown he’s better than anyone we already had at the club, player manager purchase that one imo), they must all be looking for a new club because our recruitment suggest to me they won’t be playing nrl next year with mamalo, gildart ( doesn’t matter how this bloke goes he will be playing fog not Reggie’s), and then you have the kids in Jersey Flegg, kei( was told we won’t be keeping him on dev contract next year), field( interesting to see what we do with this kid, smart between the ears but slow), Dillon ( apparently turned down parramatta and Penrith at start of the year to stay with us, but on sat at Merrylands I was told by a parent of a parramatta player he won’t be with us next year, Mavoni, Liu, hill, fuatimu and Ogden who looks impressive, just not sure the recruitment boys have it right at the moment, really interesting next couple of weeks moving forward.

I get where you are coming from Sly.
The younger players need to be given opportunity and promoted so that we can demonstrate a clear pathway to first grade.
However, they also need to earn it.
I don’t see how signing Ken Maumalo directly tells anyone that they won’t be playing first grade with us. We have a clear gap at left wing now which Maumalo fills on a reasonable contract. Nothing about his signing/contract tells me that he isn’t replaceable (compared to say Nofa’s new contract) should a junior player develop and out perform him.
I am excited by some of the prospects we have coming through and hope the club can retain the best ones that they have identified they want to keep - we need them to.
At this stage Hartigan has given me no reason to doubt him and Sheens and Noddy will surely assist in this area.

Madden's kicking in general has been poor all game. ZDC has more to offer than Madden in the halves.
Watching these forwards today you can see why they aren't quite ready for NRL, even Tuilagi just doesn't seem to have the work rate.
General lack of intensity and effort from them has lost them that game.

How was Joey in the forwards?

He played like Joey always does - a few effort carries and runs but lazy off the ball and in D. He is a long way off a NRL second rower just doesn’t have the fitness or the attitude and work ethic.

Corey Thomas, the Langer Cup Schoolboy winner from Marsden SHS, played for Balmain in the SG Ball. Although he appears to have played 5/8 for Balmain, he won the award at fullback. He is very quick and if you read about him, built a reputation using his pace in defence.

Corey Thomas played at Wavell, he’s a North’s junior whose natural position is lock. He played fullback at Wavell as there was no one else up to that level in the team., he’s not super quick but does read the game exceptionally well. He has the skill set to be a perfect lock in the modern game with a bit more size, he’s a long way off first grade but he potentially has the mental ability to have a long NRL career.

So that's two atrocious performances in a row for this side. Not a single good performance, everyone far too erratic, rocks and diamonds

Kicking game was a big difference. Our backs were always under pressure catching the ball, their backs had plenty of uncontested kicks. They had 75% for the first 20 mins and made it count.

In the end there's been far too much chopping and changing in this squad, there was absolutely no cohesion in defence. No one had any idea what anyone else was doing. Put Tuki to lock, Tuilagi to back row, drop Freebairn for a start.

Cini was barely seen. I think the rough treatment me copped from Madge has messed with him.
Fitz was fine in attack and defence but dropped 2 tough bombs
Hoffman made some poor plays and was largely invisible
Pauga had a couple of runs but some defence.
Cooper did reasonably well but again made some poor choices in d
Zdc was horrendous in defence but solid running the ball
Madden was poor all around and his goal kicking lost the game. The final penalty falling 1m short but missing several easier chances earlier
Tuki got caught out in defence but was moreso exposed by his outside man. Some strong runs
Simpkin solid but unspectacular. Got a try assist but largely invisible, solid in defence
Tupou never got much chance in attack, defending the whole time
Freebairn was just awful. Don't know why he's taking up a starting spot, not to to it.
Joey was crap. Lazy and atrocious defence. Needs to be dropped to Ron Massey if he wants to learn how to play second row, or just released as he's wasting space
Tuilagi was solid though made a few mistakes

Don't think anyone from the bench played more than 5 mins. Lui made two good runs but then disappeared. Taipari played the last 2 mins. Woeful use of the bench by Gardiner.

I heard that his best position is lock but he seems far too small to play lock. Got thrown around a bit at SG ball level. Maybe a Connor Watson style player.

Wouldn't mind him getting a run at the back in Flegg with Dillon going up to NSW Cup

Let's hope not. The rules will change well before we get a diminutive lock.

Remember Rocky Laurie from Wauchope? Played lock and 5/8 for Easts and Souths.

Yeah it’s a hard one going forward and you can’t keep all the kids that show promise coming through, but My question is I’ve seen live about 5 jersey flegg and koe cups games this year, IMO opinion we are not promoting players properly through the grades like other clubs. On sat we played a front rower in flegg who is overweight and couldn’t make a dint actually he is that cumbersome he literally fell over himself a couple of times, and he is so unfit and lazy, low and behold a day later he’s playing koe, so we reward a guy who slow and a massive liability in defence in flegg, but for instance say a scolari who’s leading try scorer or a Dillon who by the way was ordinary yesterday but makes at least 4 to 5 breaks a game, they don’t get moved up in there positions , I don’t think anybody in flegg could go into nrl this year, it’s not what I’m saying, I’m saying I still don’t think we are getting our player development right.

I would very much like to see the hard workers, guys like Dillon and Scolari get more of a go - when they're on, they excel in Flegg and would handle KOE. From what I've seen of Kei this season, he's been disappointing - doesn't go looking for a lot of dirty work. Mavoni has plenty of talent but needs to work on his fitness. Ogden is an absolutely must-keep and Fautimao also looks good. It's very much a balancing act though and hopefully Kimmorley's inclusion will help moving into next year and beyond.

Let's hope we retain the correct players and perhaps the Club could provide an update on our Flegg players.

As did Wally ,Johnny Raper from time to time different game

Interesting to see both Kiah Cooper and Junior Pauga have made the squad in recent weeks ahead of Zac Cini and Reece Hoffman. Hoffman being left out is particularly surprising as he’s the only one with a contract extension for next season.

I'm not seeing anything from Hoffman to suggest he's destined for FG so I'm not surprised.

pretty disappointing really. out of our three development players the only one I think is going to turn into a regular NRL player is Tuilagi. Kei was a freak in Matts and Ball for Parra but it seems as if his development has stunted a bit. Hoffman has been very quiet in cup for a player the club had high hopes for.

let's hope the next round of development contracts are stronger players. guys like Ogden, Fuatimau, Fitzgibbon, Pauga, Pole, Dillon, Scolari, Tuifua, Tumeth, Sykes & Tannous should all be there or thereabouts.

I think our talents in flegg have far higher ceilings than those in Cup at the moment

* Fitz is the one who really has the potential to be a first grade star. He's not far off Nof at the moment - but will the club ever drop Nof is the big question!

* Cini, solid but will never be a world beater. Could do a job in first grade if needs be.

* Hoffman and Cooper are just solid NSW Cup players. If you have a squad of stars they could do a job as a number 29 backup player but when our starters are average we can't afford average backups with no x factor.

* Pauga has potential - but at 25 the chances of him kicking on are slim.

Ogden, Scolari, Fuatimau, Dillon all have far more to potentially offer in first grade but all need to get their bodies right and not be rushed nor held back.

I think Ogden is a certainty for a development contract next year. has a certain class about his touches that I haven't seen in our young outside backs in some time and looked immensely comfortable in KOE Cup when called upon. will be a long term option in the centres providing we bring him through correctly.

thing is, he was on a development contract last year (possibly year before too) with the Warriors. There comes a time when he'll want an actual NRL contract, and i'm sure one of the clubs will give one to him next year.

Kade Hill for mine should be a candidate for a development contract.
