KOE NSW Cup Team List: Round 4 v Bears

Toa was just ok. The bears Fb was better as were the rest of their spine (maybe apart from Simpkin). Their forwards were bigger and stronger than ours and it was clear they were going to run over us, even though we did hang in there, - more to do with their lack of cohesion and attack than our great teamwork.
Rua looks a roughie but has something and maybe Ogden as well. Unfortunately not much else that stood out.

Rua seems to be getting injured every game.
Not a good sign.

Maybe he plays too hard.

I still can't wear this....
They started him in the Trials - They don't start him if they don't like him.
Yeah, I don't understand it.

Maybe just Chinese whispers.

Club should back him though.
Needs a year in cup to work on defence and hopefully push for grade next year.

I think once we have all of our injured players back from top 30 the Magpies side will be alot different

Exactly. This is the year to learn and develop for him. To make mistakes, deal with pressure and build game experience. He only does that by playing in NSW Cup at fb. He gets very little out of playing Ron Massey Cup. If the club have any hopes of playing him in the future, he needs to be the 1 this year.

Maybe there is more to it and has something to do with the player himself.
That's more often the case when players get pushed back into in grades.

We can speculate all night.

Dillon looks the goods though.
Worth the investment.

Club needs to emerge what papenhuyzen's journey was like. Sometimes you need to trust them, players who can make a difference with speed should be like gold to us.

Why trash the kids confidence? To'a also getting rewarded for a solid game by getting dropped to play out of position. Stuffs them both.

None of the 3/4s or spine should be safe, but will still get picked. Ultimately this is why I've joined the chorus against Madge.

Squad is garbage.

We definitely need to tweak our attack. Faster play the balls and more changes of angle in around the ruck. Our outside backs need to make dints in the line out of dummy half or just through plays off the ruck. At the moment it’s all slow, predictable and too sideways. My main concern is we don’t have the athletes to play a power game.

Understand what you are both saying. This is why we have to take the chance working on the guys who could actually have some x factor and who are in our system. They take time to develop, and crap planning now is Madge's fault, just like crap planning 2 years ago.

Some other sucker won't be able to fix it in a season either unless we get these young guys playing together and trying to build something. All excitement stops at Flegg this year, so we have gone backwards in the top 2 grades.

I'm done until I know what their grand plan is

It was a very gutsy effort. A very under strength magpies side up against a very strong bears side. Defence was excellent, a few dodgy calls against us and North's win.

You could tell how young are side was. Man for man Roosters were far bigger. The halves are absolutely crap, so the backs never see any quality ball.

The team is lacking quality and make too many poor mistakes.

To'a was very solid, as was Tuki. A shame Rua got injured so early he could have made a real difference against tired opponents. Considering the Roosters had so many quality players and a stable lineup and we have them 60% possession and 75% territory and only had 15 men it's no wonder they got tired towards the end. The Roosters played most of the match in our half. Simpkin made 50 tackles but did miss a few too.

Considering we were constantly working off of our own line is it a surprise our backs made more hitups than our forwards?

There's still no point in playing Pauga, he doesn't add anything and won't improve. Tupou or Fuatimau should replace him for now.

Once some players start returning from injury them go much better and badly need a half, or even Hill from Flegg to play up a grade if he's fit.

If history is anything to go by this is about the time we start losing players to other clubs.

We seem to be lacking clear direction and players are unsure where they stand on the depth chart.

I agree with all who are calling for Dillon to play fullback and others to be given a much clearer picture of what they mean to the club and how close they are to making it.

Wouldnt surprise me at all if we lose a couple of types who later go on to be very very good players at other clubs.

I prefer To'a at fullback. They are both the same age at 21. Toa made more tackle breaks then any other player in the game, topped the meters for the tigers, was good in defence and solid under the high ball. He is an Australian school boy and Junior Kiwi at fullback. Dillon ive seen nothing much esp given they are the same age
