The difference is there are dirty cards that can be played in the public realm.
This was kept in house for 4 days and no one was any the wiser bar speculation until Richo released that statement. There was a lot of emotion in it but not a lot of detail. This fired up the journos and they circled in tighter than a fish's bum. Very soon we knew the size of the contract and we knew about the reasons he wanted to leave.
The leaking of this information helped create a sympathetic view on the Tigers. I dont believe that releasing that information was in Galvin's best interests as it makes him look greedy, entitled etc... and as they hadnt said a word in 4 days and apparently didnt even look at the contract, it stands to reason that this info was leaked by the club. Weve since heard a lot of journos admit it came from the club.
I dont know for sure what happened there, but its highly likely the club instigated this by going public and straight away, there was backlash.
Social media went into meltdown, players were reacting publicly all talking heads were giving their two cents. Galvin was demoted and it was largely reported that the players forced Benji to do this.
Team Galvin had to release a press statement to temper the reaction - this is another reason I dont believe they were behind the initial leaking.
Enter Mr Gould raising concerns for Lachies welfare. He raised these concerns on tele and a podcast. Channel 9 personalities then started supporting the kid. This was met by a staged press conference from the club where Benji did really well but it didnt quieten things down enough and the loss that weekend was amplified by word the club received a legal letter from Camp Galvin.
Then other players were brought into it to create a narrative of bullying and players being treated poorly. The club decided another interview would quell things so Richo went on the Graham podcast and sold the situation as being overblown. One month later and we find out it wasnt overblown at all and the kid would be released immediately if certain conditions were met by the recruiting club. As of today, this is yet to occurr.
Mate Ive been in contract negotiations far bigger than this. This ^ is not how its done.
