OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

Articles everywhere about him yet I see nothing much about Ponga/Sandon Smith who played 10 x better than him

Medias fascination with him is baffling...I dont get it
It's only because he touches the ball so much, it seems like he is doing more than he is. Like the kid in juniors who just around the field trying to hog the ball lol

You missed the key set up for field goal!!??

The Flogs nearly got pumped on their failure to score points and failure to close out the game. Burton was shit average to be fair - who replaces him?
They also published a story from the editor, Steve Crawley where he said he wasn't buying it. Galvin hogged the ball when Burton was set up to take it.

Don't read too much into these stories - wouldn't surprise me if they deliberately write 1 good, 1 bad to get both audiences and stir up some online commentary.

He played well and will only get better.
The kid has the x factor that has his opposition worried every time he touches the ball.
I know I'm pissing into the wind on here, the hate is too strong.
He did a bad thing, it hurt you all, but the kid can play.
Let it go.
Mate personally I couldn't give a rats about Galvin but he crapped on the club and Benji and a few on the forum are still pissed because of it, it's their choice to feel that way so they can say whatever they want.

For me the jury is still out on him but he's not worth what they are paying him at the moment.

I just don't think the dogs attack structures are that impressive, they dont look much better than the second half of last year. I don't blame Galvin, however at the same time the media are glazing the hell out of him and I just don't see it. So its fair game to challenge it. Perhaps by mid season they will click, however I see a disconnect between him and Burton that I did not see with Marney/sexton/burton. the Pre galvin dogs seemed to be a bit more in synch in attack and defense for that matter.

What exactly is his x factor?
Ive seen more x factor from latu in his limited opportunity.
I wasnt having a go at him, just highlighting the over the top praise he gets for playing an average game in the halves.

It certainly wasn't a dominant performance but there was plenty on show for a Dogs fan to pleased with. He frequently dug right into the line and played square creating space that the team often didn't capitalise on. I thought he did this beautifully from about the 15th minute to the 60th.
But the timing wasn't quite right with a few forward passes (including the try assist), what should have been the match winner and the pass behind Burton as well as a dropped hospital ball to Preston under pressure. He needs to get these right or hold the ball and cop the hit if he or the target have overrun the play. Additionally, His kicking game was not good but it never has been.
When the game was on the line I wouldn't say he went missing or shirked his responsibility (he should have had the match winner but for passing it forward) but he and the Dogs needed to be better in field goal sets.
Easy to blame the 7 but at the same time he is probably the 4th option for kicking in that situation. His job would have been communication whilst it was up to Burton and Crichton to execute. I'd assume he failed in his job given we didn't see a shot before full-time but we can't know if that was the case or not.
All in all I thought it was poor execution of what was structurally some of the better ball playing we saw yesterday.
I wasnt having a crack at him.
I was just highlighting that there is all of this praise for him when in reality he didnt do anything special. I heard he had 90 touches of the ball... so i dont question the effort, but the way fox inparticular talk about him you'd think he was the next Andrew Johns...

Everyone is responsible for this.

We shot up his value by giving him an overvalued contract and then announcing it to the public that he rejected it.

Phil Goul/ Dogs talked him up.

Galvin requested a release and put himself in the spotlight.

Galvin's name sells. Esp with Tigers and Eels fans hating on him. Media loves publishing articles on villains.

In terms of his football, his strength is obviously ball playing, running and fitness. His passes aren't crisp, but geeze he creates a lot of space for his outside men. However, I don't know how you can have a halfback who can't kick. He went missing in the last 20 minutes because he wasn't a genuine field goal option.

I think you nailed it, Gould “ really” talked him up - but did put his money where his mouth is. Of course the jury is still out for this year and future years but he will attract more than a passing interest from forumites.
As a self confessed AD fan I am more interested in his performances than Galvin.

Hit him hard make him wince then rub the losers face in the dirt. He’ll get up and whinge, then punch the little prick

Apparently it was a master-class performance yesterday

Maybe I am getting old and dont understand the game anymore, but I am not seeing it...
I'm probably just as old, if not older and admit I am no expert when it comes to pulling apart a game but the Dragons definitely did not get the rub of the green but their lack of discipline certainly did not help.

All this gushing (or is that Gus-ing) over Galvin really amazes me, but then I guess what else are the Fox crowd going to say after their #1 expert Matty Johns anointed Galvin some time ago as the next immortal.

It seems like it would not matter how far he passes the ball forward it's either going to be a case of "the kid is a genius", "that was just bad luck" or "that was the fault of the receiver for over running the ball."

Doesn't matter what he does particularly on that right edge, let's be a little bit honest, it's always going to be the hole running of a guy like Preston that makes him look good and I wish some of the commentators would admit that is the case.

Having a number 7 and 9 does help

They need a 9 7 10 1 and find out who's playing 6

But they are super super fit and are drilled to the max it will keep them in alot of games

very true, will win more than they lose, however that high intensity bash and barge second phase attack coupled with high line speed and multiple players in each tackle will drain you and we saw that in the second half of last year, they ran out of puff. Basically the same game plan as the eels under Brad Arthur, will get you to finals but not a premiership...and they have had a top 3 number 7 and top 10 number 6 for the last 5+ years.

I feel like the mindset of Rugby League people has really changed over the years. In the past if a youngster did what he did last year dogging his coach like that and breaking a contract, the old school would hold it against him. These days, those same old school characters are weak as piss and go the opposite way. It really baffles me how pathetically soft these so called experts are. Braith cops so much crap, but he is a breath of fresh air imo because he calls this crap out more than most. The rest just jump on bandwagons and are terrified of upsetting the powerful people like Gus, Politics etc. I've lost so much respect for guy like Johns, Alexander and the like.
