Lame Membership Numbers - Whats the fix?

because then people can buy tickets from other clubs that are cheaper and use them at our homegrounds or vice versa. it creates a lot of programs and the system hasn't been put in place. you'd need the approval of every club and the NRL. not to mention the question of money, since you paid one club 20 bucks for the ticket but you use it at another's home ground. should that other club get the money?

So that's why you would make it a universal price across the board

And it would go both ways , you guys need to stop looking at the little picture and start looking at the big picture

And if a stadium isn't sold out , it is a win /win for that Stadium

You buy some drinks , a pie , they club makes some money from that

Even sell both clubs gear at the particular game

Extra memberships aren't going to save clubs financially , but it will help greatly

I reckon that NRL clubs would get something in the region of 100000-150000 extra members easily by doing this

You said Sydneys the centre of the universe - not me
Your inferiority complex is flaring up again.

The clubs based in Sydney, theyve provided some options, deal with it.
Whinging on a forum will solve nothing

Some people attitudes need to change from whats in it for me, to how can I support my club.
If it did I reckon memberships would increase dramatically for our club

but a universal price won't work. Thats why ANZ memberships are half the price of LO memberships because demand is lower there. Well, its really cause the supply is high. but it amounts to the same thing. Same with LO vs CS. LO has higher demand so prices are higher.

How on earth will memberships in the NRL almost DOUBLE because you've allowed people to exchange tickets, you'll get quite a few more thousand members i'm sure.

i dont see any other league in the world doing it, can't see it working for the NRL either. Doesn't seem to have a massive benefit given the difficulties of implementation.

Don't worry Ink I have sent stuff to the NRL about this

And yes I am becoming a member for the first time in a while ( as long as I don't get on Santa's naughty list 😢 )

All I am saying is that until we start looking at the big picture and start worrying about the game as a whole and not just about our own clubs that massive debts across the board will become the norm in the NRL

If everything across the board grows so will the game and the clubs along with it

Do people realize that this could quite possibly help ease the problems with clubs relocating and or dying

It really is a no brainer

I'll put it another way , ask people on here how amazed they are when they show up to a Tigers v Broncos at Suncorp or even a Tigers v Titans game on the GC and see how many Tigers supporters are there

Then maybe ask all those Tigers fans how many are actually members

Then ask them how many would be prepared to become members if they could swap their tickets for interstate games

Imagine how many Brisbane fans living in Sydney would come to a game to watch the Broncos v Tigers

Many clubs would need new Stadiums imo

Or NZ fans either way also

We have 7 million people alone who live in either Qld or NSW and how many memberships

Then compare the AFL

I bet that the % of AFL fans to NRL fans per capita would be astounding

I guess one problem for memberships for WT fans living in Brisbane is that at the moment there is no guarantee that WT will play in Brisbane. If it was guaranteed, I'm sure the club could negotiate with Suncorp and the Broncos to have the away ticket included in the membership.

This is the problem.
Madunit reckons most clubs do this, but its not that easy.
The Sharks have a regional pack that includes one game to either AAMI, Canberra or Wollongong I think it was, but theres no guarantee the Sharks will play there, but hey you can still go watch some other teams - whoopee…its not as simple as is being made out

yep that makes sense. but wouldnt it be easier to offer a membership that gives away tickets. let's say 4 away tickets and you can buy more? But you'd have to pay a slight premium and no set seating, so you can get a non-ticketed membership for $50 and add on away tickets for $15 each. Or get a Claws Away Membership (automatically bronze) for like $120 or so.

That sound reasonable?

Hard to organise such a thing at package introduction stage without knowing what games WT are playing in those states

Can't remember a season in recent memory when the Broncos ,Titans and Cowboys have been involved when we haven't had at least one game in Qld

But the point I'm trying to make is this is a good thing for Rugby League in general

And the good of the game should always come before the good of the clubs

I thought we would of learnt that lesson during the SL v ARL war

And yes PhYr3 , that would be a good idea , but again the quicker we can make things uniform across the board for all clubs the better for all clubs imo

You make too much sense to be on a forum like this Happy !

We have an affiliation with tiger airways don't we ? Surely there is an opportunity there for interstate members if Mayer and his merry Marketing team could twig to it. Maybe Madunit would be more likely to take up a membership if if there were subsidised airline tickets to a Sydney match of his choice. Or am I making too much sense for a forum like this ?!?!

So who pays for this subsidy Knuckles?

The airline/sponsors?
They already pay us to be a sponsor.

The other members?
More than likely - increased membership prices, which makes membership numbers as as a whole suffer

The club?
Somehow this is going against the idea of memberships which is to support the club, not club supporting members - yes youve lost the plot

flights cost a lot of money, and they dont make ridiculous profits either. i think i read somewhere the entire industry of commericial flights made like $10 billion profits. which sounds like a lot, but their operating revenue would be well past the 100s of billions, maybe even trillions.

doesnt sound too viable

for reference, anz made $6 billion profit last year. half the global airlines industry.

and i doubt tiger airways is doing too well with their negative publicity.

i support the club by going to games, buying jerseys, talking them up to my friends etc.
when it comes to doing something financial like getting a membership or buying a jersey- you don't look at how i can support the club.. i look at the jersey, do i like it? is it worth the money- then i buy it.

when it comes to doing something financial, you have to look at what's in it for me.

I don't disagree with you but in business, it is all about forming alliances. And let's not forget that Tiger Airways have some pretty good backers otherwise they wouldn't have come here in the first place so I don't see them suddenly disappearing. Forming an alliance with Wests Tigers is a fairly cheap form of advertising relative to other forms of the media.

But getting back to Mad Units point, For him it goes beyond the $50 and what's in it for me. He wants to be engaged as a member. He wants to get to a game and perhaps a members event. If, as part of his interstate offering, he was offered a cut price air ticket / accommodation as part of the Wests Tigers/Tiger Airways alliance, he would be more likely to do it. It's a win win situation for everyone. Tiger get a bum on a seat they otherwise wouldn't have albeit a lower margin fare, Wests Tigers get an extra member and Mad Unit gets to see his team in action. Absolutely no reason that couldn't work. Just need a CEO with a bit of foresight and imagination to make it happen rather than the same old rubbish every year.

There comes a point though with general membership when it stops being about what the club can do and starts being about our fair weather, bandwagoning, bone idle supporter base.

The amount of people I have heard claim to be WT fans but not get a membership or go to games for utter BS reasons is pathetic.

The interstate membership option should be released after the draw and catered to achieve maximum benefit for those members in different states

We finally have a decent CEO making changes and providing opportunities for regional fans….yet still its not enough.

Just need a decent fanbase that doesnt lay the boot in at each and every opportunity, a fan base that wants to support the club and doesnt bich and moan about every single little thing...looking only for themselves</membership@weststigers.com.au>
