Despite. $2.1 m increase the "disgruntled" Marshall rejected and asked for a release. Why is he disgruntled? Because he didn't get a two year extension to 2017?
Petulance if you ask me. He isn't happy that he is no longer CEO and Chairman of Selectors.

Take that article with a grain of salt- 'sources close to the club' - reading the forum again DT?

Possibly but I do think they would like to ensure he sticks with his statement about not playing NRL

Really disappointing news about Benji. He has made the decision in his own best interests and I respect that. Great club man. Best of luck.

Thats what Mayer wrote after getting the release request. Sure sounds like its fait accompli at this point.

That article makes real sense 800,000 in his final year , and we still hoped to retain all our promising juniors with paying Benji that much in his third year, typical telecrap shite.

If we hold him, he could be like Chris Sandow, most expensive reserve grader. I read somewhere that the reason Potter benched Marshall was a little for form but mainly because he missed training or was it he was drinking while on the injury list. Broke club rules. If thats the case, toughen up princess and credit to Potter for taking all this crap, just because he wants to keep the real reason quiet. He copped it from everywhere. He's doing you a favour Benji, how about you pull that pole out of your ass and repay Potter that favour. That is if it is true.

I asked Mayer on twitter if they had granted the release he did not reply but answered several questions around the same time, he also replied to another tweet from me about an hour later, I'm guessing I wasn't the only one to ask that question so the fact he didn't answer may be they haven't decided or rubber stamped it as yet.

mayer's official statement summed up the clubs position. benji has pretty much played into our hands.

Can you imagine Benjis mindset if we did make him stay

Many aren't happy now with his performances , scary thought playing for a side he didn't want to be at

Benji still has two and a bit years left on his contract! What is the point of signing players long term, if you're only going to release them?

I can't see the benefit of allowing him a free trade (even if he has been playing like a busted arse). If he wants an early release then the Tigers should be compensated financially.

If Benji was to suffer a career ending injury (god forbid) then we'd be paying him until the end of his contract….

Don't get me wrong, from a footballing perspective he hasn't been worth what we have been paying him this year. So releasing him is probably the best thing for both parties.

From a marketing perspective it is a shame to lose both Benji and Beau Ryan in the space of 12 months.

Do you think there where many 6 year olds buying Tigers jerseys because of a Mashall game in the last two years?

I don't want to shit on him, because he does deserve better, but I think people are overstating just how loved Benji is these days.

I know he rakes in the sponsorship and everything, but I think his time as a beacon to kids everywhere was on the decline for a while.

Hope the sponsor stick strong to the club and can see the potential team coming and more get on board. We are a popular club, but we need to start winning more than we are to keep these sponsors.

Looks like my Benji poster is coming down at the end of August. it was good up on the wall for the last 7 years loyalty and contracts mean nothing in the NRL anymore, sign someone for 5 years it doesn't matter they can still get out of it and p' off to some other code anyway

Not to put my foot into it, but i get tired of reading this

contracts mean quite a lot, in the nrl and virtually everywhere else, none of them are iron-clad if the parties are willing to negotiate. and yes releases are negotiated.
