Latu Fainu #282

Look at the numbers and the fact that Latu actually played as our hooker in Round 11.

I'm entitled to my opinion, and I don't need you calling it moronic. If you're an adult, put forward your thoughts and act like one, rather than resorting to personal attacks.

His minutes and the position he played support my point -

Latu isn’t a hooker or lock though, so it’s unfair to compare him with those stats, that would be like putting madden at prop and wondering why his numbers for running meters tackle busts etc are so low

With teams putting their backup halves in the centres like roosters even backup fullbacks, Blaize even played there last weekend, and with our shortage in this area, why havent they tried Latu there? With his history of injuries placing him in the middle tackling big boys seem silly.

I remember watching Latu playing hooker for Tonga a couple of off-seasons ago against England I think it was.

I thought then he was not a dummy half. It was evident it didn't look natural to him, slowish service not passing off the ground & lack of instinct to run.

As a big AD fan I’ve been trying to work out what his best position might be.
He was always steady as a full back but never dynamic and his games as a centre were pretty mediocre.I always thought he could be a great right centre, à la Mark Gasnier but that never happened. It was only when he got closer to the ball that he seemed to add a spark that had been missing. He straightened the attack, made line breaks and seemed tailor made for that position.
What’s happened now is I don’t think he has any confidence in anyone around him to run the right play or make a break. This means he’s encroaching on others capabilities. Now whether Benji has given him carte Blanche or he’s just taken it upon himself I don’t know.( Remember, his ambition à couple of years ago was to captain the side).
Against Newcastle Luai needn’t have played because he ran no plays, rarely
Kicked and more or less just left it to Douehi. I can’t see Benji moving Douehi or Luai anytime soon so it will only be a desperation move for Latu to come on.
I think things will work better if we have AD on the right and JL on the left, both playing to the max.
We’ll just have to hope, then wait and see.

It’s long odds atm, but if schuster has actually turned it around if he played 13 well it would really help ad and I reckon it would work with him in the halves, because then js has the ball playing ability we lack with ad and Luai in the halves and he still has the size to play in the forwards. I’m worried about his aggression and work rate tho

All the good things Doueihi has done this year he can do at centre. When it's play 5 you can bring him in for a kick. When we are in the opposition 40m he can go into second receiver. He can be a ball hog at centre all he wants it won't kill our attack.

I know what you mean AS and don’t disagree , but whenever he goes there, for whatever reason, he plays a different type of game, that’s been proven before to be ineffective. That’s why I’ve been searching for an answer !

Funny thing I saw the best left to right pass from Doueihi on the last tackle against St George on the weekend,
Pity it was forward
He cut out 2 players straight to Skelton who must have been as surprised as me but he actually caught it 👏 and placed it down for a try. (If only)
So Doueihi can actually throw a pass he just has to do it more often.

Now O if you scroll back in time that was a play used with Nofaluma a few times ( with success). And if you go back even further Benji brought it from touch footy ( I think).
Hang on, now there’s an idea. All the backs must play touch footy in the off season, that would sharpen them up !!

Hal
I’ve always thought it would be a good training session a serious game of touch or Oztag against
Each other.

It’s a funny thing seeing Doueihi pass…
