Lawrence and Woods prove popular with Cairns locals

Chris Lawrence and Aaron Woods proved extremely popular with the Cairns locals yesterday when they signed autographs for fans after a training session.

The boys were there with the rest of the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII team who will fly to Port Moresby today to prepare for their match against Papua New Guinea this Sunday from 3pm.

The team arrived in Cairns yesterday morning and had the first of two training sessions in the afternoon at Jones Park which is one of the junior Rugby League grounds in Cairns.

Under the guidance of Coach Mal Meninga and his assistant Michael Hagan, the team completed their session and then signed some autographs for the excited fans.

Woods and Lawrence received special attention from the Wests Tigers fans who were scrambling to get their signatures and photos.

Players and officials then attended a Men of League fundraising dinner at the Brothers Rugby League Club in Cairns where popular jockey Malcolm Johnston was a special guest.

The team fly to Port Moresby today to prepare for Sunday’s match.
