Lawrence & Idris

What would everybody think about swapping Lawrence & Idris' positions?

Lawrence is a little faster than Idris, so he won't get burnt for speed as much as him and he's much fitter than Idris at this current moment. Lawrence is a better defensive reader as well.

Idris can then concentrate on tackling and running hard in the backrow (he basically played like that today).

Maybe then when Idris is fully fit again, move him back into centre.

Thoughts?

Not a bad idea moving Idris to the back row but I don't think Rowdy can go back to the centres. If anything move Idris to starting 2nd row, Rowdy to the bench & MCK to right centre.

Idris would make a great forward of he could get fit enough.

He was always going to struggle this year coming back from a major injury and time away. Next year is when he could really add something. I would try and re-sign him now on the cheap. I dont think his fitness is up to playing anymore than 20 minutes in the forwards at the moment. Big fella is another season away from finding his feet.

No thanks ,Rowdy ain't a centre anymore

People have short memories , most were asking for his head as a centre before he switched

Correct. However ordinary he is going as a 2nd rower he was going much worse at centre.

Neither Idris or Lawrence have acceptable lateral movement to play centre if anything Idris would probably be faster acceleration but with less top speed. We need a centre

Lawrence is finished he is a really ineffective player now. Idris is too slow for centre, if he can't play back row then punt him and seriously think the same for Lawrence.

Thought Lawrence went will again today. In terms of centres being burned defensively, need to lok at our structures rather than bag the players. We are playing a very compressed defence, where players need to move to avoid getting burned outside.
With our current team, I do not think that is the best structure.

Like watching a couple of two milers up against 1000 metre sprinters

I know we've been playing a compressed defence but I sometimes have to wonder whether or not we're actually trying to defend like that. It seems to me that, at times when we are under defensive pressure, we do the schoolboy thing of crowding together. At times in the second half you could have thrown a blanket over the whole team and all Parramatta had to do was throw the ball wide and not only did our edge defence fail but we had **no** edge defence.

I watched our defence closely yesterday from behind the posts. One thing really stood out to me, to defend well as a team we need to be unbelievably fit. The work players do getting back into position, covering positions where players are at marker, sliding to the other side of the ruck at the last second when Teddy tells them we are short, then to continue pushing across to cover the inside…..its non stop and at high pace. We are not fit enough to do it.

I could see the effort, it was frantic. I really admire those teams who can do it so well.

Sorry did you say Lawrence is better at reading in defence . Ummm no thay is soo wrong im surprised you have watched either of them play. One of Jamals real strengths and the reason we are controlling that side much better desoute Jamal still being a little slow is because he is one of the better defending centres in the comp in both tackling and reading. Idirs needs work on his fitness but the club and JT previously said he wont be up to fitness until 2nd half of the season. What we need is more structure work oh abd kev is horrible so mayby chee kam to centre Suli back to wing and Kev gone

Me to Harvey..but you see the name Lawrwnce in a thread and it's like moths to a flame..We could use so more ineffective blokes like him making charges from our end…

I really like MCK but i dont think he is a center more a back row forward he seems to handle that much better.Center is still a main problem and Kev is a major liability no matter where he plays. There are no easy answers for Cleary this year just to keep on working with what we have and perhaps blood a few players.

The back 4 is a mess. No cohesion defensively. Nofoaluma is in a world of his own defensively idris and suli are too slow laterally. Massively exposed on the edges at the moment. I'm sure Ivan knows this but there isn't much he can do this year about it. Missing whare was massive but I'm also hearing Penrith are gonna have some massive cap issues and may have to shed players anyways.

He definitely looked a lot fitter yesterday going by his enthusiasm in defence, and even when he got burnt for speed he didn't give up the chase. I'd definitely look at moving him into the backrow for next year. It gives us extra size, playing on the right size also allows him to use his fend more effectively and he's one of the few players we have who knows how to hit in D. We definitely need extra speed out wide too so a new centre with a bit of pace can be recruited.

I reckon he was great. Tough hit ups at speed and real good defence. His only problems to me are the occasional missed tackle and the occasional dropped ball.
