Lawrence...Squeezed Out...

Yeah, I get your point. I totally agree with 5 year deals. Absolutely not on. The chances of someone going on to those heights are slim indeed. Simply not worth the risk. But my position doesn't change. He's not the clubman so many keep rabbiting on about in my opinion. He's purely interested in his own benefit. I reckon he should chuck in $2000 to charity for every game he doesn't score, until he does. That might lift his stats.

When did he score last? :brick:

To be fair to him, it's not through lack of trying. He's never been the same since his hip and hammy injuries. He didn't chuck an Ayshford and go off the boil overnight.

I understand the sentiment and it does frustrate me as well as his performances aren't that of a star signing.

Let's take into account thought that he was reportedly signed on $340K for five years. A strike centre would command heaps more than that now. His contract has been heavily backended too, which is really the fault of the previous board.

I think if he were only pulling $340K from the cap this year and next it wouldn't be that much of an issue, but the furore is arising from the fact that his backended deal isn't reflective of his performances.

A bit of perspective is needed here. I would prefer he moves on, but if he can't get what he is owed I understand him wanting to hang on, this will be his last big money deal.

Exactly right. Now if he walks away and "does the honourable thing" he takes an even bigger pay cut. He is basically just collecting money owed to him by the club. But I'm sure there will be people here who just walked away when someone owed them 300k odd too.

I'd love to hear what your employers think about some of you. Wonder if you'd move on if the truth be told about your pay packets versus performance. Considering most of you spend the whole day on this website

Good point. Self employed here. Points made about club owing him are valid. So are the points about him earning his keep.

You would have to be joking.

Oh! I'm not playing to well this season coach. Please don't pay me at all until I regain form - Oh! and by the way I'll get another job during the nights we are not playing so I can give you $2000 every week I don't score a try.
I just want to be a great clubman - I'm not concerned about feeding my young family - I don't care about them as long as WA in Perth thinks I am a great clubman.

Mate! What world are you living in? Cyber space methinks.

I also take exception to - your an office worker so because you have nothing to do you spend all day on the forum???? Yeah sure. What about council workers, Water Board, Electricity workers….. If you wear a blue collar you are almost dead by the time you get home -
OH! Honey I nearly killed myself today

Really darling - you need to be careful!

I know - my arm slipped again while I was asleep leaning on my shovel.

Right move if true. Rowdy has been given ample time and opportunity to get back to his old form, but it just ain't happening and we need to move on. I hope he can secure a good club in the ESL and set himself up nicely for the future.

True Flip. The club has persevered with Chris fora long time now. Most other clubs wouldn't have. I hoped he would improve his form but that's not to be. Chris is a very likeable man, but that's not going to win us games. It's time for some new blood in that position. Someone with speed, strength, that's good defensively and can read the play. Someone dangerous with or without the ball. I won't be sorry when Chris leaves but I would always wish him well.

Yeah, that's fine CB, but everyone tries out there to be the best they can be I think. Some excel, others are good, some just don't have it. If you don't have it, you don't have it. A great club man would do the right thing for the club. He's proving every day that he is not that. He's in it for himself. He's in it for the coin and he's not prepared to allow others the same opportunity that he was afforded. When people here say they hope he can go and get a great contract to set himself up for life, I think what???? As if what he's on hasn't already set him up. Are you people completely mad? He gets probably as much as the Prime Minister. (Not that he's worth it either)

Sorry WD but that's complete rubbish. He signed a contract for 5 years or whatever, he suffered an injury playing for his employer( Not out on the town)and is entitled to have his contract fulfilled. If you were in that position you would expect your contract to be honoured( the small fact that it legally has to be honoured would be of a slight importance too)
The injury wasn't his fault, and I would expect that he has done everything that the club has askedhim to do as far as rehab etc. is concerned. Therefore unless the club can get him employment elsewhere and come to a suitable settlement , they have to full fill he terms of his contract.
And just another thing. No professional sportsman or any worker for that matter, isn't in it for himself and his family. Why shouldn't he be, just because you would like to buy a new player with the money owed to him, why should that effect him.
I can't believe how people can expect a sportsman to behave any different than any otheremployee.
If you feel that the clubs being hard done by why not donate part of your wages to help buy another centre. Same thing you want Chris to do.

Simona is gone for 4 weeks …X...Wests Tigers Official....

If Rowdy goes I wouldn't want to be paying any of his contract....I thought we were past that crap...

Tygertye nails it for me....great post...

thanks Geo -

There's things called contracts gents. Who ever gave him his contract is legally liable ( as well as morally liable ) and the last time I looked it was WTs

Blair was contracted to the WESTS Tigers for this season as was Blake Austin…I don't believe we are paying them.....

It depends on who and how the release was requested...

Depends what The Broncos are paying himand how bad he wanted to go there
If Blair thought that he had a better future there then he's probably on less.
Austin Wanted a release which is a completely different thing and we wouldn't be paying anything
Lawrence has a probable career ending injury, and is entitled whatever his contracted stipulated.

I may have worded my OP wrong…No doubt Lawrence deserves his contract...just not a fan of paying a players contract to play for another team while taking up space in our Cap...as well as the backloading thereof...

With Moss on board... I'm hoping those days are well and truly behind us...

The question has been raised why would Lawrence walk away from the NRL while he still has a big fat juicy contract. It is pretty simple after 2016 he is worth very little with the prospects of being offered another contract in the NRL not so good, of course this could all change if the NRL decide to introduce a new team or two. Anyway with the sweetener of the club paying some of his contract, the ESL are likely to offer him a good three year deal. For any footballer these days a three year deal is a great deal[/quotei

If his contracted as it probably is, then at least some of that money is for games played under the first years of his contract and is pay he would normally received over the first part of his contract .
Just a question weren't everyone here overjoyed when he showed loyalty and re signed with WTS . Injuries are just a danger clubs want to sign a player.
Lawrence owes WTs nothing . And especially supporters who will cheer madly for you one day and want to throw you under a bus the next day

because then - he would be a man of character - he would realize what's best for the team in moving forward

So now he has no character. Some of you blokes are unbelievable
This bloke has showed his character ever since he came into the club and its a pity some on here dont do the same.

Lawrence is a great guy and he has been great for us. I don't think that he is at the level that he needs to be at to command big dollars or even a walk up first grade spot.

I read an article saying that Blair asked for the release as his wife and his manager worked with Broncos whilst he was away. There was direct quotes so it was legitimate.

Brisbane are the undisputed masters of the BS "compassionate release". Ben Barba's life was going to be ruined if he didn't go up there but then lo and behold when he's surplus to needs back he comes to Sydney.

lawrence has shown plenty of Character ever since he first came to the club. Much more than some. If he had asked for a release two years ago, you'd all be saying he had no character because he had broken his contract. But now you want the club to break his contract . It's plain to see who has character here.

What I mean Geo is that the backloading is to cover the money that the club couldn't pay him over the total years of the contract including the early years. It doesn't matter as his contract is all that matters.
I don't particularly want Chris in the team either . But the rubbish on here about Chris's character , and crap like he's stopping another player from getting a go. Is just that, crap. He owes us nothing except to give his best , and if his best has been compromised his ability then the club owe him what his contract says, yhats how it is .
