What do these 3 guys have in common? All suffered debilitating injuries.
Whose the odd one out? Lawrence, cos he's still playing.
But there's a second reason why he's the odd one out. He's the only one that no one has any sympathy for, the only one out of the 3 whose name has become a punchline and that people love to use as a punching bag.
I have a question. If Dwyer or Tuiaki ever made comebacks, i'm sure there wouldn't have been one supporter who wouldn't have peed themselves with excitement. What if those 2 did comeback and they struggled as Lawrence has? Would people be equally as brutal on a guy who almost was resigned to a wheelchair and another who had his foot shattered?
This is where the lack of empathy for Rowdy really becomes frustrating, cos the injury he suffered was no ordinary run of the mill injury. He was almost crippled. His hip dislocated, he was unfortunate enough not to have it pop back in, it had to be manipulated and he had to be sedated. His screams were heard from the stands, and he was still screaming as they put him into the ambulance. His injury was one of the more horrific injuries of the last few yrs. Yet no one seems to accept the similarities between he and Tuiaki and Dwyer.
All i ask is the next time you take a cheap shot at the guy, ask yourself if you'd do the same to Dwyer or Tuiaki if they made comebacks and weren't the same players.
