Lawrence: We can beat anybody..

Agree with Rowdy…the gap between our best performances in betting Souff's Dogs Dragons and Storm (all top 8 sides) last year and losing to Newy twice Titans etc is too large...mentioned in the stepping up thread that our young guys are now approaching a level where they no longer can be classed as rookies...despite the fact we have the youngest roster in the NRL...the gap in game experience is closing...

The top sides perform consistently..Broncs Storm Rorters Dogs Manly Souff's gap between their best and worse performances are generally narrow hence they play semi final footy...

I think we will surprise quite a few in 2016...

It all comes down to one word - consistency. We looked great when we towelled the Bulldogs, Souths and Storm but absolutely stank when he blew big leads against the Dogs, Canberra and went down narrowly to the Cowboys…Defensive lapses were too common and for weeks our attack was the most boring in the comp until Taylor walked into a telegraph pole and had some sense knocked into him in allowing Brooks and Moses to play their natural games.

Let's see what 2016 brings...I'm hoping we are consistent as a whole with our performances.

Blowing those leads against the dogs and raiders hurt but at least we showed some ability in those games in building the leads in the first place (albeit followed by complete mental capitulation). I found the games against the Titans and Knights the more frustrating ones. It seemed like every game where you could academically say going in that we **should** win we **did** lose.

Nothing Rowdy said is untrue. So frustrating that we can smash 3 or 4 of the top 8 on our day but fail to back it up the following week. I'm hoping the fact that we've blooded some talented kids early will fast track their development to top class 1st graders. Time will tell.

Only 44 more sleeps now….

If I'm honest reading this article pumps me up for the Season and gets me Optimistic but it reminds me that I felt the same way this time last year.
Like everyone else has said we have heard it all before but then again what else is he supposed to say? "We are doomed ".

Not expecting alot this year but asking for commitment and pride from our players can't be to much to ask for can it?

Never felt so unsure about an upcoming season. All I do know is we have to start well otherwise the media will ravage us and the innuendos, blame game, etc will be in full force once again. Rowdys positive attitude is not surprising - but like others still waiting for the results on the field.

agreed, never been so keen/nervous for round 1.

round1-3 (maybe 4) will decide our season barring injuries. if we go 2-1, 3-0 we have a good shot to make the 8\. anything less and we'll do well to miss the bottom 4.

Tigers can beat anybody at saying they can beat anybody.
Heard it for years yet we have played finals twice since 05.

you think out of all the teams we've had, THIS is the one that can come home strong?

i dont think so. we have to start strong in the opening rounds to shut up the media and put belief in the club (both players and supporters). if we start poorly and we're 0-4 and we were beaten well each time i dont see us bouncing back to make the eight whatsoever.

It's a much too simplistic theory in a season covering 26 weeks where many other scenarios need to be factored…. Not to mention those of fifteen other teams
A strong start is always desirable however... And I do see your point considering our home games in the first few weeks too.
Results are important... But we also need to set a platform with our footy... A positive start to continue on with

Newcastle were 4 from 4 and leading the comp only undefeated team after 4 rounds and ended with the spoon…Cowboys were a pooptenth or 2 FG's away from being 0 and 4 and won the Comp....

A poor start does not necessarily transtate to a poor finish..nor does a good start translate to a good finish...it requires consistancy in performace where back to back wins outweigh your back to back losses...

If the team can knuckle down to defending well and grinding out a game, completing their sets and controlling the ruck consistently week in and week out, then this is a win in itself…to many times have they gone hard early and racked up points only to be overhauled at the end,or they have been ranover through the middle with poor defense or a bit of uncertainty with what to do with the ball once they had it..completely agree with Willow,Geo and others who have said that what we need all season is "consistency" ,the one thing that has elluded us for sometime...

Have we had any changes to our coaching personnel, i.e. assistant coaches etc , that may give cause for optimism with regards to consistency?

Hey Newtown, the coaching personel for the WTs this year is…
NRL Coach...Jason Taylor
NRL Assistant coach ...David Kidwell
NRL Assistant coach...Craig Sandercock..

I assume Kidwell is defensive coach not sure, and dont know anything about Sandercock...

Yes but when it gets to Round 18 and you are only a mathematical chance of making the 8 and are relying on other results ….......

When was the last time Lawrence made a linebreak?
Can't beat anybody with a crippled centre.

.

If Rowdy stays fit and injury free he will make a huge impact playing in the backrow,he showed some solid form last year and will improve even more this year…I have a lot of confidence in him getting near to his best form now that I think he is over the hip injury that almost wrecked his career....

Yes Tigers can beat anybody….....problem is most times Tigers beat themselves before the other side puts the final nail in.

Lawrence's move to the backrowers was one positive that came out of last year. I can't think of too many others. He did play well there. Even if the move was a season or two overdue.
