Lawrence.

Now, I haven't posted on the forum for awhile but this is a topic in which is feel deserves special attention.
To me before his hip injury in my opinion at his peak, he was the best center in the game and was the future of the Wests Tigers Team, he was also a certainty for a SOO spot. Without a doubt I think all Wests Tigers fans viewed Rowdy in the highest of lights. He had it all, speed, skill and he was defensively strong and he was developing brilliantly as we all expected. However… in the beginning of the 2011 season the unthinkable happened, Lawrence suffered a freak hip dislocation which put him out of the game for 3 months+. He eventually returned and what we saw was a different Lawrence, he still had speed, skill and defense but We could all see that as much as it killed us all, he wasn't the same player he was before. It was like he was lacking something, He went from being the best open field runner in the NRL to a contained and subdued center. Fast Forward to 2012 round 19 Tigers VS Panthers. Lawrence has managed to get through most of this season in pretty good health. Now last night we witnessed some good performances by some players, Woods played some great minutes, Sirro defended well I thought. But one man I thought played brilliantly last night was Chris Lawrence. He attacked well and defended well. When he took that inside ball from Sirro and we finally got to see him in open space again, he burnt Coote and I had the biggest grin on my face. To me after that game it felt like the old Lawrence was back. So The point I am basically getting at here is that it was amazing to see Lawrence a favorite of every Tigers fan back to his near best and I hope he continues to improve because as we know after the injury he suffered its a credit to him to fight his way back in to form. So well done Rowdy you have made "us" and certainly me proud.

Thoughts?

If he cuts the constant up and in back to necessity rather than leaving his winger posted on occasions without cause I would agree

i agree, i reckon he has been building to this over the last month or so, hopefully he can maintain the form until the the first weekend in October

I think we tend to forget the seriousness of that dislocated hip and it now seems as though he is getting back to full fitness. Well played Christopher

It was always going to take an age to get back to where he was pre hip injury. It was just that serious a injury. is he still off his peak? Yes. But look at this in stages. Compare the back end of last season with the first 6 weeks this season. Minimal improvement. Then compare the next 6 weeks with the last 6 -7 weeks. Again more improvement and in my opinion at a greater rate than earlier on. So in the past 12 months we have seen Lawry improve pretty well from where he was and the reality is that he's not there yet still. It looks possible that he could really hit the ground running next season, given he'll have a full pre season to do more work.

I'm so proud the work he's done. He's stayed patient, has known his limitations and clearly continues to work just as hard as always. He will get there, i firmly believe so.

First time our halves put lawrence through a gap? Correct me if im wrong cant remember the last time….

He only races up when the player inside him races up which is his job, if the widget is stranded its his own fault as its his job to follow Lawrence in too.. U defend ur inside first

I think the biggest thing about him burning Coote was that he surprised himself.
You could almost see him setting himself to take the tackle of Coote and then he thought, nah, stuff it lets have a go and put his foot down. And it worked! He actually had pace when he went for it.
With him realising he still has speed in a game with this try and the try he scored the week before v the dogs through sheer strength I think we might just be seeing Lawrie starting to get over the massive mental hurdle that the hip injury and then a couple of hammy's etc. caused.
Definitely very good signs.

Yeh some good thoughts in this thread. I was really pleased with his game last night and think he is finally starting to run into some form.

Well it is Beau and alot of the time you are right but when he makes (or misses) the tackle after rushing past the player inside him there is an issue.

He is getting better every game but it is something he really needs to watch IMHO

agree with everything you said… another big step for him and us fans would be to forget the hip injury ever occurred, it draws invalid comparisons.. just put your head down and work hard

wat concerns me the most about his defense is when a playmaker is drifting across the field, lawry doesn't watch the man running back inside.. often results in a line break, but lucky for him he often catches the man.... this has been a problem ever since he started playing centre

It was fantastic to see him hit full pace and get around Coote and those hits of his are brilliant.
His definitely a favorite of mine and it was good to see him play well last night.
I hope he continues to improve and builds up for a great run into the semi's.

Absolutely, that injury could have ended his career and the fact that he wasnt out of the game for 12 months is incredible. Even if it takes him another season to get back into his best form I'm prepared to wait. He is a champion, and its great to see him hit some form. I dead set loved that try he scored on Saturday.

Fingers crossed he is making his way back to his best. I have doubted it all season but hopefully he has turned the corner and can dominate again. Go Chris.

The most pleasing thing was the fact he was able to switch on the burners to scoot by the fullback to score his try. Haven't seen that in nearly 12 months!

Agreed! That was beautiful to see. He absolutely smoked Coote. Gotta do his confidence a world of good.
