Leichhardt Council seeks Wests Tigers Centre of Excellence

Where exactly is there all this open space for us to develop on. There's no space at Leichhardt whatsoever, and the land that is there is either state or council owned public spaces. They're not going not be sold for private use. Close Leichhardt pool? Force local sports teams to relocate from one of the few fields available in the inner west? Move the alcohol and drug rehab clinic and the Adelaide University Nursing college?

Homebush is already pretty developed. Where would we be placing this new COE? Down near the ferry somewhere? Or we're going to setup our COE in public space so 'elite' athletes can share facilities with the local kids pissing in the pool etc? No.

If the funding for Liverpool fell through then basically Ctown is the only option left. It might shut up some of the self-entitled fans down that way too

You were going alright until your last sentence.

Paul Lake said he was thrilled with Liverpool's bid going under. Looks like it could come down to Leichhardt and Ctown. I don't see us going to Homebush.

Campbelltown is an excellent facility and as far as I'm aware Campbelltown City Council would be very supportive of Wests Tigers relocating their training facilities there. Never thought the Liverpool project would get off the ground and Leichhardt seems too limited in terms of future developement

Marina Go handled this poorly. She alienated Ctown before the money was secured at Liverpool. It will be interesting how Paul Lake and Ctown Council feel about the Wests Tigers trying to jump on the back of their COE submission now.
Perhaps the boys from Wests Ashfield can go cap in hand to Ctown council and blame the independent directors; but assure them their days are numbered.

I take it you didn't read the article itself then which stated how Lake was very happy with this announcement and that he thought Ctown was now in pole position, http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/macarthur/campbelltown-an-option-to-house-wests-tigers-after-liverpool-plan-dumped/news-story/795008de0e8794f56f2fa8c07e1e64e0

Go didn't alienate anyone. She stated the club was exploring it's options, was in discussions with a number of councils, and was part of a submission with Liverpool Council for their development.

If Liverpool got rejected for funding, what makes Ctown so confident they'd get funding? Are there that many marginal seats in the south west?

I think theres plenty of room around Telstra stadium and the athletics field. Have a look on google earth. Probably even more room when the stadium is rebuilt.
If it depends on govt funding they might be more willing to spend money there, as they want to revitalise the area.

Paul Lake was pretty clear they still wanted the Wests Tigers. If their submission is successful the club is odds on relocating out there.

My bad - I hadn't read the full article.
Opinions and feelings have obviously thawed because Paul Lakes comment at the time Wests announced they were going with Liverpool was "they've made their bed and they can lie in it".
I'm glad there had been a softening of that stance because I believe Ctown is the best location for it.

Tigers need a state of the art training facility and a modern professional HQ. Anyone who has been out to our offices in Concord would realise what a shabby set we have. So I say, I do not care if is at Campbeltown,Homebush or where ever, just get it done and stop talking about it

Just on Leichhardt oval, if the council was smart, they would get a partner and build a commercial park at the back of the grandstand. You could have office suite with views over Ironcove, the sky is the limit and the rents you would gain would be a bonus on top of the football revenue. They could also carry the grand stand around and accomodate a centre of excellence and a head office on the back of the new grandstand. Will not happen but makes sense

I'm with you SC. Sick of all the talk. It's been dragging on and on and…...

The back of the grandstand, as in Leichhardt pool? Or remove the players carpark and have a tiny building at the back there?

So, demolish the state Athletics centre? Is that what you mean? Could be an option. Not sure how much it actually gets used and could possibly be relocated elsewhere to less valuable land.

Not sure how having a league COE will revitalise the area though. There's already big business out there like Comm Bank, not sure how having 20 staff and a bunch of players coming in sporadically will help the area.

Rubbish Idea to be based in Leichardt

Liverpool is the way to go.

New facilities.
untapped region
growth corridor

I am sure even with the limited space available a clever architect could come up with a very smart and effective way of including our centre of excellence and a commercial viable space for office space.
