Leichhardt Oval - good/bad and the ugly

just a few observations from the past few season (maybe even decades)

- The crowd figures are always underestimated IMO, i see alot of people walk in without paying. kids junior passes are not scanned, as well as my membership has not be scanned a few times.

-On hot days they usually run out of water and soft drinks, and most games beer dosent last till half time.

-sercurity is almost non existant, there was a fight on the hill when we played the worriers and security from the playing field had to intervene. There was no police pressence outside the rear entrance, roads arnt blocked and cars are still trying to drive down towards the swimming pools, battling the 20 wide crowds coming the other way.

Compare leichhardt with say oki jubilee and the pressence of police is seen everywhere, they block all the roads off and direct traffic. with a capacity far less then leicharddt.

This all makes me believe that the "Wests Tigers" do NOT want to play games at the suburban grounds, come on humpty pull your finger out. Bring back some entertainment (the rock band behind the posts on the northern end)…Even the roar metre..anything, somthing! At a ground where we have won 9 from our last 10, it deserves more!

Security is usually preoccupied with removing GA ticket holders from pinching seats in the members areas. Both games I've had to ask security to remove people with GA tickets from my seats.

The beer supply there is bloody woeful. They had run out of Carlton Draught before halftime in the Warriors game and we were left with that watered down crap.

They have to get rid of the section of the bar underneath the scoreboard that sells food. Theres always about 50 people trying to push through to one side to get drinks and then the other half is completly empty. I was "lining up" for about 15 mins when we played the Sharks its a joke

E Group security have a very poor management record at both Leichhardt & CSS over the years

I spent the first 20-odd years of my life watching football (soccer, I guess) in England and from that perspective I would heartily reject the notion that what Leichhardt Oval needs is more cops and security.

cant they take a leaf out of oki jubilee's ground. its quick and easwy to get food, they haver a proper bar that is quick and easy.

Make it BYO would solve all problems

I'm sure that the facilities at Leichhardt would equal or exceed those at Kogarah if the Tigers/Council received an $8m federal government grant.

And whatever Morris Dilemma gave them as well.

The ground faces a conundrum.

It attracts crowds, especially on a Sunday afternoon, because of the romantic suburban ground lure. The crowds are rising to a point whereby the current infrastructure of the ground cannot handle. However, if there was to be a change to the ground and the suburban ground image is lost, there would be a backlash.

This is my first year of having members seats at LO, so I've been to both home games there and both times I've had to ask to have people remove from my seats. They do have security to stop people from entering the members bay but as soon as she turns her back GA holders sneak in and act dumb. I feel sorry for the poor girl trying to do her job, but some people are just so rude and stupid. They will do anything to get a descent seat except pay for it.

That's so true, it happened to us at the warriors game as well.

What really made me angry was at the end of the game, the players were still being interviewed and were thanking the crowd, E GRoup security were telling us to move on from our seats in front of the grandstand. We just ignored them, but they seemed to get really angry that the crowd had not dispersed within 3 minutes of the game ending.

BTW, Love Leichhardt the way it is, its hell to get to and hell to get out of but absolute heaven to sit and watch and be so close to the action.

Are the GA people refusing to budge or did you just get security to move things along quicker?

When people sit in certain seats for years and then suddenly find theyre reserved with an extremely higher price tag tacked onto them, confusion and confrontation will ensue.

The first game I had to ask security to move them on, they "refused" to believe I was a member and they were my seats. The second occasion I just asked security to tell them to nick off.

That's BS Ink. You see people wait until twenty minutes into the game on the GA side of the fence to find which seats haven't been occupied and as soon as the security has their back turned they duck in and snare vacated members seats. I saw the same two blokes moved on in both the Cronulla and Warriors games, so you can't say they were "confused" about where they belonged in the second game.

I paid good money to get my seats and it grinds my gears that some douchebag can waltz in, pay GA and sit wherever the hell he thinks he likes, irrespective of whether the seats are vacated or not.

Something has to be done Gary. I love the aura that it offers and have many memories not only just being there but travelling there and meeting great people in the process, but something has to be done about the games there. It's rotten that players are still on the pitch being interviewed and conversing with the fans and security is marching people out of the park and there's not adequate security to stop ticket cheats. Hell, blokes still having to piss in a lightless dungeon on the top end of the oval was always part of the experience at LO but we are fast outgrowing it as a professional club.

Having said all that the money paid is still worth the experience for the time being. My fiancée attended LO for the first time this year in the Cronulla game and she loved every moment of it. I turn into a 10 year old everytime I go back there. There will however come a time where if the ground cannot be improved to the point where it can support a team with a large supporter base, it will be time to move on. It is sad, but it is the reality.

For night games when one has to go to the Gentleman's Room on the hill can I suggest that they get some of those LED lights for the brim of their hats and that way they will avoid splashing anything on their Nikes.

Two real highlights for me: 1) The Glenn Morrison Toilet block 2) The dodgy old bloke out the front selling his salmonella sangers

I love that guy. Just the way he says "Get your hot doggy hot dog, sausage on a roll". The same line for years and years. Never been brave enough to buy one, but I feel something when I see him outside of a game.

I sit in the grandstand so I'm not sure about this, but are there enough toilets on the hill to support those crowds? Never mind the state of them, is it a constant line up or is it fairly well serviced?

You reckon everyone will know about these new blue seats?
There will be sh– fights everywhere come next LO game....people that sat there last game as a GA patron now finds theyre reserved.
I rememeber when it happened at Cambo eastern side almost immediately post Grand final

Though Im sure there are scenarios too like youre painting....getting there early to get a good seat dont cut it no more....he who coughs up most wins. :unamused:
