Leichhardt Oval news

I disagree and I know it goes against all the opinions and plans for the development of the club in the McArthur area, but I’d be happy if we played all of our home games at Leichhardt in the future. I realise it’s a joint venture and in fact I was a Wests supporter all my life before the two teams merged, but I want us to win and playing at Leichhardt regularly gives us the best chance at being a more successful team.

Campbelltown hasn’t worked, our nomadic existence playing over various venues hasn’t worked. We need to establish a solid home ground advantage similar to other local Sydney teams and Leichhardt offers the best option for that to happen, imo. Hopefully with the upgrade the ground will be brought up to speed enough for this to happen.
I'm all for one home ground and the idea of one or two games here there or where ever is a waste of time imo.
With the $40m ;
* The capacity will only increase to 23000
* There is still bugger all parking
* The corporate facilities will still be substandard for us to compete with the big clubs.
*it probably needs another $100m to do the job properly...

Other than that it's a great idea

The plan is available on the council website, and yes the new stand is designed with corporates in mind, though they're building a new section over the top of the current laneway behind the stand, on stilts of sorts.

The plan is available here :https://www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au/Ar...al Master Plan Report - October 2023.pdf.aspx

There could be late modifications of course
The lane way near Mary St?... Or are you talking about the new stand at the northern end where all the trees are?
There's no lane there 🤔

With where we are at do we really need all that in advance. What about hypothetically we get the upgrades done commit to 6 games a year there and win 75% of them by way of having a home fortress of sorts. Wouldn’t that then lead to further work proposed if it works out that the oval becomes our preferred home.
I look at Manly at Brookvale this and last ever since that new stand was opened up and it has a nice mix of a suburban and stadium feel.
You’ve also got Cronulla who hold a max 18,000 fans or so and that is there full time ground.
The Dolphins play out of the former Redcliffe reserve grand home ground (with some big games at Suncorp).
Surely we would benefit by playing suburban and not stadium.

I can honestly say that Im in favour of the LO upgrade, not because Im an old Balmain boy that has enjoyed many a good time there and the old leagues club, but because it will favour other community sporting clubs such as the womens sports, soccer etc etc..
I would also like to add that the CSS needs an upgrade because I have had many a great day there as well as it is a growing area that is calling for a major sporting complex that can also be shared amongst other sports while preserving our brother and sister Magpie heritage as it was their domain after leaving Lidcombe...
I dont know the answer but maybe Richo and co can find a happy medium for all...
I will also say that I travel from the Southern Highlands for games and the old saying from Sydneysiders that CSS is to far to travel is crap,if you love the team and game a little travel occasionally isnt that much to ask....

Whatever you want to call it, not a public street, but the section behind the grandstand severe the players park, buses etc. That will be covered by the extension of the corporate suites

The 100 parking spaces created will no doubt be corporate as well.

I’m not a fan of the designs it screams bandaid solutions and more money will be needed in a few years anyway.

At least they’re trying, be very surprised if we get the upgrades outlined as per the design for $40m

If all games were played on a Sunday at 3pm no problems.
Logistically living in the inner west - working, and with family commitments getting to night games, and then factoring what time you are going to get home for many it is not plausible especially if they want to take kids. Sydney peak hour traffic is diabolical I would expect that would be the same for fans from Campbelltown getting to Leichardt for night games. The very reason why families follow the local team and why Sydney clubs are tribal based on locality.
Richardson appears to value the corporate dollars ahead of the fans preferred ground, so I think the stadium option is where he has got us headed. Whether it's the right option when the team is still at the bottom of the table - I'm not so sure.

40 mil or what ever amount they have will not be enough to upgrade the ground to capitalise on the corporate dollar and satisfy the average punters requirements.

In a perfect world the government would build a state of the art ground in the South West, Cambo being the perfect location due to its proximity to a rail link. Then the club plays out of Cambo except for maybe two games at LO.

The left field option is Lidcome Oval as it is on a train link and has a lot land, also not that far from the inner west and South West. Trouble no government will throw money at it as it is close to Parramatta stadium and the Olympic park grounds.
That’s were the dumb ass government should of put there cash instead of just making an expensive parramatta Home stadium. How dumb are they putting a home ground in the heart of parramatta area. No train station ffs they had to build a tram line to allow people to get to it. Lidcombe was the ideal sight for a universal stadium that multiple clubs would have used. Right next to a major train station and not enough due hard magpie supporters to try and own it!
Now they have just built the most expensive home ground for parra that no one else wants to play at. I repeat dumb asses!

A couple of facts
- The Tigers are undefeated at Leichardt Oval this year
- The Tigers have lost their last 10 games at Campbelltown

Also note our last 2 matches where we totally thrashed the opposition were both against top8 teams being 66-18 over Cowboys last year and 32-6 over Sharks this year
Seems we don't play well ever at Campbelltown and why ? Doesn't crowd there inspire us like is does at L.O.
Maybe we should play 6 games a year at L.O and the other home games at Comm Bank where we've also had some good wins like Parra this year and Souths and Parra in consecutive weeks in 2022 .
Take every advantage you can get !

no doubt the media and supporters get behind LO and the event experience it brings.
Campbletown just doesn't bring that same fan experience
in saying that we are 25 years down the rabbit hole we need to be playing some games 1 or 2 at both LO and CSS

I would never agree with playing home games at comm bank aka parra stadium irrespective of how we play elsewhere

ANNOUNCED on NRL last night, Funds to begin work would not be available till 2027.
Then that means it becomes a joke. Who are they kidding, cough up now or at least off season.
We’ve just had similar announcements about funding in Victoria. Showboating politicians the lot of them.

Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face JT.
I’d swap Death Valley for Comm bank in a heartbeat if it meant more wins.
Interesting that 2 of those wins at Commbank were against Parra and you’ve gotta love that.
If funding for LO now 2027 then Richo will no doubt have a plan B for announcement shortly. And you would assume it’s either Accor or Commbank.

Just some thoughts.
It appears to me (correct me if need be) that one of our most loyal supporters and sponsor, Harry Triguboff, has been ignored once again in LO discussions. I'm sure Harry and his team could do a development of units whilst incorporating an upgrade of the ground.
Richo I'm hoping will choose Accor, especially to cater for corporates as well as the bigger drawing Sydney clubs. It is closer to our inner west area, and, I'm hoping will eventually be reconfigured to a rugby league/union/football stadium.
LO and CSS I believe will continually be used for the out-of-town and interstate teams.
