Liam's a team player

Wests Tigers second rower Liam Fulton might have been thrown into the unfamiliar positions of hooker and five-eighth at different stages throughout the 2012 season but he wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Despite the different roles associated with these two positions, Fulton said that he just wanted what was best for the team.

“Anyone would just like to be in a first grade team and playing. I’m no different,” Fulton said.

“I would have preferred to play second row but I’m not going to go and kick the dirt. I do the best job I can in whatever position they put me in.

“When I got put to hooker I knew I couldn’t do what Robbie did and when I got put to five-eighth I knew I couldn’t do what Benji did.

“I had big shoes to fill but I did whatever I could because that’s what the team needed at the time.”

Fulton did more than just “what the team needed” too. Matter of fact, he was one of the team’s most consistent performers in 2012\. Fittingly, he was this year’s winner of the Noel Kelly Best Forward Award which was announced at the Club’s recent Grand Final luncheon.

But individual accolades don’t faze Fulton. He admitted that he would take a good team performance ahead of a good individual performance any day of the week.

“I guess your own form can be judged on how the team is going. I think on a personal note it was probably my best year,” he said.

“I was happy with my consistency. I didn’t set the world on fire. I just knuckled down, did my extras and tried to do my job for the team.

“I would have given it all up (my own form) to make the top eight for the Members and for the Club to get to the finals.”

During the off season, Fulton has plans to head overseas for a holiday with his wife before commencing pre season training with the rest of the squad in November.

he was also the bloke that went overseas because of salary cap issues for a year rather than get a long term contract with another NRL team..every team needs loyal hardworking 'foot soldiers' to be successfull. Liam is most definately one of our best

here…here...Liam one of our best in 2012 for sure...deserves one 2nd row spot for sure...

Second Rowers: Fulton and BMM
Lock: Anasta
Bench: Pettybourne, Blair.

Great attitude, he is my kind of player, always trying and always work for the good of the team. He is my benchmark for any players at the West Tigers. Great players or not, the players have to take a page out of Fulton's book. You are my champ Liam.
