Live Stream of Meeting of Members

I was at the meeting today. Was mostly impressed, apart from the audio/visual work. Slides were almost impossible to read (especially Mayer's slides, where he put up stats that were too small to read, then rushed through them).

Enjoyed the sausage rolls and party pies afterwards…

Nothing beats the Juro 'curve ' mate !

Hope it returns this year ?!

Taylor was going to show specific examples of why our defence had been so poor under 2 different systems. I think he called it a "hard sliders" defence under Sheens. I think he described it as "ugly" how teams just poured through the middle and scored tries near the posts. Under Potter I think he said it was the opposite "up and in" style. He said people came in on the flanks for no rhyme or reason and it was all over the place out there.

for it not to work was a bit amature, however i was impressed the detail he was giving the fans. Anyway he sounded his defensive structure which i assume is a Mix of the 2 styles would be much improved. Although he said he does not want the players talking about it, and putting pressure on themselves. He wanted our defence to "sneak up on teams" at how much we had improved.

All positive stuff from the board,Mayer and JT, and really you would expect every club in the NRL to be saying the same sort stuff a month out from the start of the comp. Although what did impress me was the way JT identified problems that need rectifying and already had systems in place to fix the problems. To me he seem a guy that works very very hard at his job. I am not expecting miracles but expect we are going to see improvement from day one–--fingers crossed

Was at the meeting and found it to be very positive and useful stuff from the club, Mayer was consistently using the line we need to be better from membership to merchandise to training facilities and on field performance. For the next 1 I'd like the club captain to be in attendance as well to give a players perspective.

Couple of other points to come out from JT:
!. Tedesco is a 50/50 for round 1 but all going well will be back in the first 3 rounds.
2\. If Tim Moltzen is available for selection within the first 10 rounds it will be a great achievement, apparently his injury then staph infection was very rare and his rehab was an unknown so they've had to play it by ear.
3\. Had a big rap for Liolevave and hinted he'll be pushing for a spot for round 1.
4\. Gave a good defence of Chris Lawrence, sighting he hadn't had a full pre season until now since doing his hip and from previous seasons, not being forced but being asked to play on with ankle injuries which affected his play, doesn't excuse some of his defensive reads but still made some valid points. This is his first full pre season since, has had ankle surgery to get them right and has been flying in pre season.
5\. Made comparisons to the Bulldogs, they scored only 24 points more than us last year but conceded the 2nd least points and made the GF. Said we need to be in the top 8 defenses in the league to be competitive.

All in all was very informative. Good to see the things the clubs doing behind the scenes to improve.

Even though Potter was given the rough end of the stick, I think JT will fit in with the WT culture better than Potter ever would. Combine this with the new board and as I said before the future is looking a lot more stable with solid foundations in place. The previous board would have been more concerned with old Balmain/ Magpie issues than the best interests of the Wests Tigers. I think finally we are getting our house in order. I don't think we will win the comp in 2015 …..... and may not even make the semis. But I'd like to think beyond 2015, the future is looking very bright.

Like the sound of this

Was anyone actually there? What was the talk like after the cameras went off? More importantly, **what was the food like?**

probably served up sausage rolls and party pies with BYO sauce

Come on, this is the Wests Tigers. Surely half the room got pulled pork sliders and craft beer, the other half chicko rolls and RTD Woodstocks?

Well it's got some merit. I'd rather have a handful of shiny beads and a nice European dose of syphilis than four more years of Adam Blair.

Our defence to "sneak up" on teams? They only have to watch one game!

I don't think JT will change our D structure after every game.

Just wondering whether anyone followed what Grant Mayer was saying in regards to comparing memberships at different clubs. He was saying you needed to compare the revenue, not just the membership numbers. eg he said Parra's 14k members only generated a little more than our 6k members (or was it 9k?). Fair enough.

Then he also said something about people being counted as members of a club if they read one of the rugby league magazines (RLW or Big League, was it?). That totally lost me!

He has said previously that our members are one of the only 'genuine' numbers. For instance some clubs that play out of multiple grounds eg parra/saints count each ground as a membership. So if someone buys a 12 game membership for dragons they count it as 3 memberships. 1 for kogarah, 1 for Wollongong and 1 for homebush.

He has also previously stated (very informally) that souths have an agreement with big league that a form of big league subscription counts as a souths membership. Souths memberships are massively inflated imo. They claim to have like 25k members but get 13k to a game. They count people like Oprah, Tom cruise etc as members, plus they give memberships to pretty much every relative every player has (dead or alive).

Teams have agreements with sponsors. For instance you get a loan from NAB and get a souths membership included.

Mayer has said we only count genuine ticketed memberships, and are one of the only clubs who do this.

They also run a "swap a tooth for a membership" scheme. Most of their hardcore fans hold 20 or 30 separate memberships on this basis alone.

Mayer also mentioned Souths , they have 30 odd thousand members but with only a 50% attendance rate .

They must be waiting in their fortnightly Centrelink payments .

Souths have a habit of giving away memberships, in some cases the memberships were given to the deceased, seriously. At least they did back 5 or so years ago.

I remember a few years ago Souths got caught out counting media people, security and stadium employees in their attendance figures.

Sounds like a desperate club to me..

I wouldn't mind a year or two of that kind of desperate TBF.
