Liverpool development

Did not realise the size and scope of the new stadium and entertainment areas that Liverpool council are looking at developing. Realistically the Weststigers would be foolish not to at least consider this proposal, with Badgerys creek airport not that far away and where Liverpool is situated in the greater West this would be an ideal home base with a home stadium (at last). I see Campelltown are offering a piece of land and the expense of Building etc would be reliant on the Tigers ..this proposal certain pails after the Liverpool offer? The future could look very bright in deed if this pans out.

Hmmmm maybe that's what Mayer was referring to when he said the level of support for the training development could cost an area the Tigers. …

Certainly Leichhardt council does not deserve to have the Tigers in their area, given the way they have been a stumbling block for years. Time to move forward. Watch the media news when the Tigers do move form Leichhardt. All the councillors will be out saying they did everything they could. They did! Nothing!! That was all they could do. Useless.

Liverpool would be a very successful developement for the Tigers, just hope it goes ahead sooner rather than later…

I can see not just Leichhardt going. Sounds like Campbo aren;t going out of their way to keep WT around either from the first post.
All training out of a brand new top quality Liverpool base from 2016 or 17 and all home games out of a new stadium from 2018 or 19 maybe…

Geeze there'd be some carry on and a heap of 'that's it, i'll never follow league again!' - but it makes perfect sense long term for the team.

Are we talking about Liverpool as a training/admin base only, or a fully fledged Home Ground?

With the $$$ that we get from playing at the Stadium at Homebush, it will be hard to throw that away.

i think we're talking about liverpool as a training/admin only.

we have a 10 year deal with anz anyway i think?

In that case Liverpool might be a happy compromise between Concord and Campbelltown.

Only problem with Liverpool is the people that live there

get off your high horse mate, livo is the best suburb in the country. the only place that comes close to it is probably bankstown- #2170repz

I know maybe long term we may benefit by moving out and basing ourselves in Liverpool, but i don't think it would be a good idea in the short to medium term. By doing that you're alienating over 50% of our supporter base who would have to travel the best part of an hour for a 'home' game every second week. I don't think that's fair at all.

However being based and training out of the propsed Liverpool precinct would be ideal because it would mean our facilities would be one of the best in the country and would finally allow us to connect with our supporter base out west.

I know some people think that playing out of one ground will solve many of our issues, but it would create other problems. The reality is that we are a joint venture with two supporter bases that are an hour's drive apart (on a good day's traffic).

We need to either play all 12 games out of one ground thats central to both geographical precints (Maybe ANZ - 40 minutes from Campbeltown, 20 minutes from Leichardt, 10 minutes from Ashfield)

Or

Play 6 games out of the proposed stadium and 6 games out of ANZ ( Perhaps with a game from each allocated to heritage fixtures at Campbeltown and Leichardt).

yeah i agree completely.

i reckon, maybe play all games out of 1 stadium (or all but 2, with 1 at LO and 1 at campbo).

the question is which stadium?

Dave smith will probably answer that soon, hes secured $600 million funding from the gvmt for rectangular stadiums. he talked about a few necessecities, one being it cant be too big (so maybe around 40k), needs heavy rail, roofed and other modern facilities like wifi, bathrooms etc.

As a training base, fine. As long as the facilities are good i couldn't care less where they train. Playing games there would be a huge risk though. Leaving both our 'heartlands' wouldn't be a wise move.

Smiths back flip on stadiums sure makes things interesting though. He's gone from wanting the SFS to be upgraded to a 60k stadium and all Sydney clubs to be based in either the SFS or ANZ, to wanting lots of little 20k stadiums to promote a better atmosphere and fan engagement.

With football also putting in dibs for better stadiums, and Parra somewhat guaranteed to be upgraded significantly it will be interesting where the money goes.

I am a Liverpool boy. Wish we could compare our situations.

he never said he wants lots of little 20k stadiums?

he said he doesnt want empty caverns. which means a stadium about 1.5-2x its average crowd. so probably around 35-40k since he should be aiming for 25k at a new stadium. ANZ is 22-23k atm

Tigers games won't be enough for funding for a stadium. It will never happen IMO.

I have said for many years the west needs a purpose built rectangular stadium of between 35-45K.

Liverpool could be the ideal location. Yes it will not be built for Tigers games alone.

I think if Liverpool Council want it to go ahead they will line up the WSW (Liverpool/Fairfield is soccer heartland and the WSW would love to play in a new stadium in that area, it may piss off a few of their members from the hills area but they will gain even greater support from the region that used to have 3 NSL clubs, WSW will play a major part in any new stadium for the west and this is in football heartland and they know that), Tigers ( we would jump at the chance to be a tenant of a new purpose built stadium that is about 20-30 minutes up the road from Campbelltown) and the Dogs (they almost moved to Liverpool years ago). If you build a stadium like Suncorp (great for league and soccer) and have games most weeks people will turn up.

If we could get in at the ground level behind the project and also get a state of the art training facility in close proximity that would be a great outcome for the club.

For mine the ability to attract 3 tenants straight away makes a stadium at Liverpool more attractive than Parramatta (would only be EELs and WSW) and Penrith (would only be Panthers, WSW don't want to be their full time).
