Lomax

Mattersons involvement confuses me ..first i heard of it today

...Did Parra want Melbourne to take Matto and 400k of his contract as compo for Lorax....but Matto said no?...

As much as I would love Lomax to learn a lesson in contract law and for Pawwa to not rollover on principal, give it 48 hours for the Storm to pass around the hat to collect for Matterson's return bus fare and watch Lomax magically become Stefanie's new BFF.

Hate Parra but good on their leadership for standing their digs. Showed plenty of other clubs how to do business.
Yeah they deserve credit...theyre looking strong in their admin and its reflecting on the park

We.seemed to be tracking that way as well but now I'm not so sure...one reason why i really dont think well make the 8 even though in the ladder thread i did

All a bit strange .Parra got themselves in the box seat,
Proved they won't be a push over and probably hoping like hell a more compliant suitor arrives for Lomax asap

I don’t think so man . Most clubs would and should be wondering , well if they won’t take 750k for a winger , then they’re dreaming if they think we are giving them a top liner for a rental player .
I get they want a player , but seriously he’s just a winger . If they think people are swapping , their may brothers or Fainu brothers etc . Then they’re dreaming . I can actually see him playing union , and then going to the bears . I honestly can’t see a team seeing that 750k and going , yea we will pay more than that …. I say again for a winger .

I agree with what you say ,think parra missed its best opportunity to gain its best advantage from this

It was easy for Parra to stick to their guns as Lomax had left the club. It's different when the player is still at the club, kicking stones at training, media continually asking players about it. Having the player at training etc can disrupt the playing group and then there is salary cap and roster to consider.
None of those things existed as he's already out the door.

That is true but the workaround with this is that if a player comes to you asking to a release, we can grant them a release but put the Lomax clause in it. We decide where you go and how much we get paid.

Until then you can't play.

You give them a release first. This way you own them but they don't get paid until they agree to your terms.

But he only accepted that because he had another deal in place. He was uniquely dumb

It's a little silly from parra. Last time I heard, Melbourne are offering $200k of cap compensation. It's better than sitting on it and getting nothing. Maybe they think they can get more..

the cap compensation is only if Matterson agrees to join Melbourne, he declined.

It's not a standard NRL transfer drama. This situation will likely not happen again with R360, unless that comp fails to take off a 2nd time. I don't see it as a glowing endorsement of the NRL Transfer market at all. This is a really rare case of a club stopping a player moving because the club with the contract get nothing out of it. Look at how snotty the Storm were when they realised they'd have to actually trade to make their squad better for once.

Really hate players signing with new clubs before they're actually a free agent. And speculation around deals that expire years away. There is too much money involved now for it to work that way. There should be a transfer window for free agents - when they reach it.
