And Happy you also forget, if they did say that, the club would take their war chest and head off into the open market. These guys leaving does not mean the players in the 9's would be who we're replacing them with. Zero chance of that.

Just because you have money doesn't mean people will come

West Ham United are the perfect example of that

They had Dimi Payet's war chest and couldn't sign a replacement even close to his quality

Newcastle ,St George etc ring a bell ??

That Pongo Kid and Ben Hunt… 😕

If the money is right players will generally go anywhere

I think the Ponga money is going to turn out to be well spent. The Hunt money not so sure…

Ben Hunt hasn't been the same player since the 2015 GF and Ponga needs to prove himself for at least a season before we can make a judgement

NRL teams haven't had a chance to really try and break him down yet

Attitude is attitude

Whether is be the players , coaches or management

If anyone is happy with what they saw attitude wise on Saturday , they are easily pleased

Players possibly putting cases forward for NRL selection , management trying to get the club off to a good start for 2017 and attracting new members , sponsors

Coaches / selectors picking the best possible squad to give us the best possible chance to win

I saw absolutely zero of that yesterday

But because so many fans will expect a total lack of accountability and mediocrity they blindly move on and say "don't worry , it will be all different come Rd 1"

Make your club accountable , make them think they can't just make decisions and when it fails , just move on and say "look at the future"

The future is here now sorry , be accountable , get it right , just once would be nice

Absolutely agree.
A good performance today with their best team for a dead rubber. Why?
The attitude aired of arrogance from a club that has no right to be. And if that wasn't the wrong message to send to the players I don't know what it is.
It doesn't define our season but it is a very poor start. Every interview with players and coaches all touched on how the much the players wanted to win and the coaches emphasised the importance of competing.
The whole attitude from our coaches which filtered through to the players was poor in my opinion and doesn't at all support the culture that they are trying to peddle.

There's nothing to figure out with Ponga, he's just a freakish talent. That will turn out to be a very good signing for the Knights, I don't have any doubt about that.

Yeah we will see

Clubs will test him and find out weaknesses he has

Ewan McGrady was one who comes to mind , Owen Craigie , Barba the same to a lesser extent

Taylor said before the nines he didnt care about it, fair enough, but $380,000 first prize . Why not send some players who will try something. No i am wrong there, Why not coach them to play some nines footy as that was woeful yesterday.

That prize money means very little to the clubs. The different between a financially successful club and one that is not, is not a once off cash injection of $380,000.

I suspect if you could guarantee that money by trying harder, which you cannot, the clubs would care.

But its not worth interrupting pre-season training plans and risking injury of key players for a possibility you might get $380,000.

They get $110,000 for turning up.

Interesting logic Southern

So based on that we shouldn't try and win premierships because you can't guarantee it

Or try and win the minor premiership because you can't guarantee it

Or even try and win a game because all the teams get the same funds from the NRL

None of those follow from my logic. The fact that you think they do is a good reason to cease using the word "logic" old fella.

Fair dinkum, the nines, everyone get their knackers in a knot because the WTs didn't do what they wanted them to do…turn up and beat the hell out of whoever was in front of them...

The players split the prize money between themselves so the old club needs the money argument doesn't really apply. I don't take too much at all from the 9's except for individual highlights from the young players like Connor Watson and Kalyn Ponga.
Let's just wait until the season starts before the wall starts crumbling. We haven't even played a trial match with our main 17 yet.

Fair dinkum, the nines, everyone get their knIckers in a knot because the WTs didn't do what THEY wanted them to do…turn up and beat the hell out of whoever was in front of them...I have played many years of Rugby League in probably one of the toughest groups at the time...these pre season games and tournaments mean bugger all against the big scheme of things...the NRL....the comp of the season...guage your players and your depth and then move on to making the finals of one of the toughest comps in the world NRL...you have to give all your squad a chance to show what you got...the nines is perfect for that...it doesn't mean our season is over...start thinking with your head on ,not your head off...

Losing at the tournament is not why people have "twists in their knackers". We as supporters can handle a loss (lots of practice), we cant however hack a refusal to try. Today was a lot better and even if we went down youd find less criticism because they had a go.

Imagine the despair of the Cowboys and Broncos fans. They actually played a pretty much full NRL team with a future immortal and couldn't beat a bunch of kids. I'm sure membership has dropped 200% as as a result

Seems to me that people are actually cheesed of because they didn't even TRY to win the games, a bit of effort wouldn't have gone astray.

Sorry Stryker,
Didn't see your post saying the same thing

In fact I think you may want to review your own comment and logic …..

Or lack of it

I totally get that. I was pretty down after Saturday but we beat a much more fancied side on Sunday. It's just how this competition works.
I'm not losing sleep over it. I'm more interested in seeing how our combos are looking for the actual 13 man trial.
