Long term - Is Moltzens future at club in doubt?

Initially it looks at though Sheens will play Lote on the wing and with his seeming preference for Lui at half that puts Moltzen at Fullback.

What happens if Sheens decides that Lote's best value to the team is at Fullback.

Where does that leave Moltzen?, Lui will have settled in to the half spot leaving Moltzen seemingly without a position in the top side.

Carn't see him being happy with that situation but from the clubs situation that is what may happen.

Sheens will have to decide whether he wants Lui or Moltzen.!

you would be mad not to choose moltzen over lui. if we lose moltz it would be one of the stupidest things ive ever seen happen to us.

i remember reading an article where sheens stated that this year they would be deciding on what position is best for moltzen to play..

hopfuly tuqiri will stay on the wing so we can keep moltzen at fullback.

Both Moltzen and Lui are talents and the Tigers will be keen to keep both for quite awhile yet. It's no guarantee that Tuqiri will end up at fullback. He and TNT may complement each other nicely on the wings which solves a few problems.

Thats it. It's no guarantee Lote will play fullback at all. Sheens will play him where he feels the team is strongest to have him. If Lote does well on the wing then i can't see why he wouldn't stay there. Moltzen is a capable fullback so there's certainly no urgency to shift him away from there.

Moltzen is the exact style of player Sheens loves so doubt he will leave anytime soon, well not at least unless Sheens moves on or the Bears get going on the coast.

Id like to see him in the centers with Lawrence or opposite wing with Tuiaki, but Tuiaki being on the wing is highly doubtful

I can't see Benji staying in league after his contract runs out. If that happens, Moltz will become our 5/8th

Sheens has also mentioned Lote as a possible centre which would mean Ayshford would have to step aside so it's created quite an issue at the club. As with every season though, inevitably a few players don't live up to expectations and they spend time in reserves or constantly coming off the bench. Already it looks as though Taumata will start in Jim Beam Cup or off the bench so there is casualty No.1

I do worry about the step up to 1st Grade for Lui though. I'd be more comfortable with Moltzen.

In 2009 Moltzen struggled with Fullback.

He had his moments but struggled at times with returning the ball at pace and didn't seem to have the penetration he did at half.

Prefer others at Fullback and feel his best position is half.

Don't see him as a long term option at Fullback, in fact would even prefer Lote !.

would this mean that ayshford would move to utility? not too bad an idea…he can play wing, centre, 5/8 and lock...

though i would rather him be kept where he is.

Why the hell do tigers fans always try and find a negative to anythihg the club does?

We sign Tiquiri and all of a sudden it means Moltzen will leave the club and Marshall will leave league all together.

Do some of you guys ever enjoy footy at all?

Yeh, some long speculative bows drawn here

Good call. Although, it did cross my mind too.

I think we need to keep Tuqiri on the wing. Who cares what we paid for him. Problem solved.

Can't agree more. We have agrueably the best sqaud since our inception in 99 and all some can do is just focus on the negative.

I just don't understand where the idea of TT as fullback came from as he has never played there as far as i can remember. He does't have the ballskills required of a modern day fullback and Moltz imo could make this position his own. Look at the Rorters who are transforming Carney in into at fullback, he could be Hayne devastating.

Moltz for me should be there up. In attack he has all the skills and used as a secondary 6 and his defence is pretty good as he showed with that tackle on Mini last year.

The idea of Lortay at fullback has come directly from Sheens….

Moltzen wont be going anywhere anytime soon.......i wouldn't think...

if we start with lui at 7 and moltz at 1 and both are playing well in a winning team then lote will play wing.

if lui struggles, then moltz will move to 7 and lote to fullback.

i hate the utility tag, because it is given to players who play like crap when not in their preferred position.
like morris at half,he sucks, just because you can tackle doesn't mean you can play the position.

now moltzen i class a genuine utility who can cover a range of positions at a first grade level.there is no doubt to his importance to the team.

i think lui is the key to where lote plays if there are no injury problems elsewhere.

i hope lote plays wing all year.

We seem to be in the position now of having a few very promising juniors coming through with very limited room for them, Moltzen, Ayshford and Lui included. Moltzen is the more fortunate of the bunch, being able to cover a few different spots, but I do wonder whether - and do hope - we'll be able to hang onto all of them.

I was most impressed with Moltzen last year, but I think the fact that there's a continuing debate about where he'll play and for how long proves that he doesn't yet have a definite, permanent spot in the squad.

That's the thing, Moltzen does have a permanent spot in the team, it's just some people on here seem to try and raise doubt everytime a new player is signed. Sheens rates Moltzen bigtime. Benji reckons he's Origin material and has all the skills and talent. He won't be going anywhere for awhile.

I think Tuqiri would provide the most value on the wing to be honest. He can act like an extra forward when we are getting out of our 20 and he is dangerous in broken field. He is also a great finisher. Having not played fullback for a while he would need to adjust and I think coming into Round 4/5 the team doesn't need this hassle. Although I reckon Moltz is electric at 7, unless Mullaney or Lazarus make the step up to 1st grade, he will probably be in the No.1 with Lui in the 7 and Taumata keeping pressure on him for his spot.

All in all, whatever side is put on the field it looks pretty strong. Our depth has already been tested on the wings and I'd still be confident of winning our first 4 on paper.

1\. Moltzen
2\. Brown
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Ryan
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui

Depth
- Tuiaki
- Tuqiri
- Daniela
- Taumata
- Mullaney
- Pritchard
- Lazarus

I'm sure I'm missing some, but you could easily make 2 competitive backlines out of that group of players.
