Lote/Koro/Utai

This shapes to be an interesting battle imo.

Who will be the odd man out?

Utai and Koro shape as the obvious starters come round 1, but Lote's name and reputation will carry a lot of weight. I can't not see him being there. I think the unlucky one will be Matt the Tank. Was one of our best in 2012 which should make him feel even more hard done by should he be overlooked. If its the case and he isn't on the wing, he has to have a spot on the bench, he deserves it

How good is it knowing we now have a coach who will pick sides on merrit

Utai is the most bomb susceptible winger in the comp and I think that will cost him his spot if all options are available.

You could throw David Nofoaluma into the mix as well.

I think Korobiete is assured of one spot. I think it would be very unlikely that Nofoaluma will find himself on the other wing, particularly if Tedesco is at fullback. I think the chances of Potter selecting a back 3 for the first game of the yr with a combined total of less then 10 fg games would be slim to none. I'd expect Nofoaluma later in the season. Who knows, if injuries strike could be earlier

We haven't played a game under Potter yet so there is still no guarantee he won't have his favourites as well (mainly due to player attitude, personality clashes etc). I am sure most coaches would have their favourites and others who they aren't particularly fond of (but maybe play them anyhow because they might be the best option they have for that particular position).

Utai deserves first crack over Lote IMO, at least to start the season. He gives his all every game and more often than not this season he made an impact. Maybe give Lote a go at centre in place of Ayshford (who looked like an exact opposite to Utai this season: uncommitted and disinterested). Lote probably needs to earn his spot in the team first after an indifferent season with form and injury.

Koro has shown that he is the future

A Toyota Cup player came into my work today and said he believed that Potter was keen to trial Koro in the centres, so maybe all 3 will start.

Interesting, could be a sign he thinks we need more pace out wide than what we have had with Ayshford, Lote and Utai.

I think you are right, Utai is the most likely to miss out. Which is a shame because the guy has enjoyed something of a career renaissance with us.

But I guess Potter has talked up that every position is up for grabs and players need to earn it. So nothing is impossible.

I think Lote is there to mentor the young Fijians and what a great man for these kids to look up to. He will also add stability to the backline (if he is fit and injury free he is still a class winger).
Utai I see as a perfect bench player. he can fill in a few positions if need be or be an extra forward/dummy half runner and metre eater.
I would think the tigers will not have both Koro and Nofo start as they are very inexperienced, if Moltz is fullback you will need a safe winger to help him out.
I would love to see them both start but they backline may have Miller, Benji, Koro, Nofo, Moltz and Asyford. Not a great defensive line as Lawrence is the only notable defender.
Thats why I am leaning towards Lote starting on the wing

I would love to see Koroibete in the centres but if we are moving him to another position why not try him at fullback? He would be an absolute beast there has speed and takes on the line, what more do we need? Then we would be able to have Nofoaluama starting on a wing.

1\. Koroibete
2\. Nofoaluama
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Utai/Tuqiri

Would be pretty good imo

I'd think Lote and Koro will be the starting wingers in 2013\. At least in Rd 1\. I've got my doubts about Lote playing every game…

He's not going to play fullback… Very highly unlikely anyway... What more do we need?
Ability under the high ball and positioning skills - AFAIK he's never played FB in his life. Wing is his go right now.

I am pretty sure he has played fullback before in his life it says on wiki he plays fulback and wing anyway he is a winger I don't think he can't catch a ball

I was wondering the other day, as I believe Moltzen will start the season at fullback and give Tedesco the chance to regain some form and test out the knee, but does anyone else think its possible that Tedesco could come back into first grade on the wing? Or possibly of the bench?

Utai had some great games in the back half of the year but please remember he still remains of our biggest defensive liabilities with his work under the high ball.

I'd reckon lote/koro would get first crack but agree its a mystery what potter sees in them all. Koro would be interesting in the centres but his strength is his ability to go around not through people so would think the wing he would stay. Not sure on his ball playing skill.

Koro at fullback though - you guys remember tedesco yeah? He'll be there round 1!

He hasn't been caught out though as much as some people on here believe, defensively I don't think he has been any worse than most of our backline. Are people still carrying the whole "liability under bomb" stuff from his days at Dogs?

The boy I spoke to is in his 1st year of NYC and he also said that Lote has been fantastic in giving his time to him and the others who have progressed from SG Ball, don't know if Lote is worthy of a starting spot but at least he's proving his worth as a mentor.

Yeah I think they are. Utai took some great bombs under pressure for us in the back end of the season, I would back him over Moltzen to catch 'em. He deserves his spot

X2 he was great under pressure I thought and his defensive game was good. I don't know if we were watching the same games???? Matt deserves first crack. I think it might be Lote and Matt.
