<big>Lote Tuqiri signs with Wests Tigers</big>
>
EXCLUSIVE by Dean Ritchie
IT IS news rugby league fans have long wanted to hear - dual international Lote Tuqiri will return to the NRL with Wests Tigers in 2010.
>
With third-party agreements, the former Brisbane Broncos winger will earn up to $400,000 a season after signing with the Tigers for the next three seasons.
>
The only issue is when the club can officially announce his signing. Tuqiri will shortly sign a short-term deal with either London Irish or Leicester in the English rugby union competition.
>
It is understood he will return to Australia in March for the start of the NRL season.
>
NRL chief executive David Gallop has ruled no player can have guest stints with a rival code, particularly rugby union, and then return to league.
>
It means Tuqiri can privately agree to terms with Wests Tigers now but he cannot formally sign until he returns.
>
However, the rule robs the Tigers of the chance to promote Tuqiri as an exciting addition to their line-up until the season is about to kick off.
>
Club insiders say the NRL rule is ridiculous because it prevents Tuqiri from being used to promote ticket sales, membership, merchandising and marketing.
>
Tuqiri will become the fourth player to return to rugby league after lucrative stints in rugby union, following fellow Wallaby recruits Mat Rogers, Wendell Sailor and Timana Tahu.
>
Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys was revealing little last night, fearing any premature announcement regarding Tuqiri could jeopardise the deal.
>
The English rugby union season does not finish until May, but the Tigers want Tuqiri back at the club's Concord base by March.
>
Tuqiri was sacked by the ARU for disciplinary reasons mid-season and will still need to explain the reasons for his dismissal to Gallop.
>
But there are no indications the NRL boss will prevent Tuqiri from returning to rugby league.
>
Gallop and Humphreys spoke several times last week about Tuqiri, who wants to settle in Sydney permanently and lives in the Balmain area.
>
"Lote is getting close to making a decision about his playing future and hopefully that will include us,'' Humphreys said yesterday.
>
Tuqiri will start 2010 on the wing with Wests Tigers, forming a formidable combination with big Taniela Tuiaki.
>
If he settles back into rugby league quickly, Tigers coach Tim Sheens has plans to use the former Kangaroos star at fullback and Tuqiri has a strong desire to play in the No.1 jumper.

Looks like he's ours guys, dont want to jinx it!!!!!

no no no no no no no!
This thread still isn't up to 1000 posts so he can;t be signed yet!

It's still not saying he's actually signed. Just that there's a handshake deal while he messes around with european yawnion. ie. what we already pretty muck knew thanks to Mr Anderson. It's a terrible decision by the NRL if he can;t be used to help promote the game but not surprising.

$400k a year,he aint worth that, that is for sure,he will want to do a fair amount of publicity and sponsor work to earn that amount of dough.

WT can't get the contract approved by the NRL and announce he's signed tomorrow, then let him sign with Union for the next 5 months… as Gallop has outlined.

But theoretically couldn't they do it the other way around, like say, Lote signs his contract with Union tomorrow, jets off and then the Tigers wait a couple of months and get his contract signed in December/January and announce it. That way, on a contractual timeline he goes Union > Union > League and not Union > League > Union. Get my drift? On the surface it's completely hollow and obvious, but could still be a viable loophole.

Would be one way to go you would think..

Gallop should be champing at the bit to use Lortay's return….......norrow minded clown.........

It's time to go David...........

best signing since the terry hill - jarrod mcCracken package deal. congratulations Wests Tigers, the dawn of a new era is upon us. so thats 2 down and 1 to go. Our attention i think will shift to Lima now. All the rumours are coming to fruition.

I'm trying not to be negative but this is the same news organisation we choose to ignore when they say the opposite of what we want to hear.

This report is no different than the one a few days a go saying that Lote would sign with Leichester Tigers.

READ the article again, the man is not signed, they're speculating just like the last 20 pages on this thread.

Maybe it will happen the way it's been reported but until it's officially announced there is no sure thing.

Yah that article seems strange.

I really hope, if he does go play Union for the off season, that the official announcement isn't held off till he gets back.

Good point Icon….what this shows is people will believe it if its something they really want to hear.

Looks like guesses that he will sign last week, the week before and the week before that were way off.

At least it looks like he'll be here for the start of the season, trials wouldve been preferable.
I just hope the pay packet doesnt equate to a mortgage on a first grade spot.

it has more to do with our major sponsor being the main contributor to lote's 3rd party deal and wanting to combine the 2 in the one announcement.

Is that a new major sponsor or current sponsor, Anderson?

i cant say mate, ive already been raked over the coals for putting lotes signing on here from my WT source, any major breaking news that i have will be done in pms i guess lol

That's fine mate. I appreciate the info you have already given us. Feel free to add me to your PM list though

I cant believe no one has picked up on the most striking and exciting part of that article…......3 YEARS.......3 YEARS.

That shocks me. When these rumours started I was hearing 1 year, maybe 2\. 3 years show that both Lote & the club are fair dinkum (assuming its true).

Regarding those ridiculing the rumours that he has already signed, if you read that article, it is entirely propbable that he HAS signed an agreement with us, the problem being the inability for the club to let anyone know.

I cant see why WT adn the NRL cant announce his signing say 1 week after he starts his stint with Leicester. It would Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon Union and make it look like his union run is a stop gap and his real desire is league.

Glenn

so essentially that article sums up what has already been said on this forum a MILLION times

This is confirmation that Tuqiri wants back in league, and has absolutely shocked me by opting to play a code for a lesser amount of money. I owe Lote an apology, i guess he really does want to play a real sport.

Despite what little details and paperwork and decisions have to be made and will be publicised and argued about on this forum, i think everyone should be a little appreciative just for a few moments, of the fact that we have signed Lote Tuqiri.

This is the highest profile signing the club has ever made and has really put us in a position to be considered a threat for the 2010 competition, something that has never happened before a seasons start.
